"This book has a lot of action and I love the early Anita Blake books because it really focuses on Anita and who she is. This book focuses on Anita and her animator powers more than most of the others and I think it makes them really interesting. Hamilton's characters and settings are great and I think, as long as you can handle Blood, death and gore, that anyone who likes Fantasy thrillers will like this book."

" I'm thrilled to see there are still many books waiting for me in this series. Anita's multi-faceted personality has garnered my interest and the author's writing style completely suits me with the pace, the conversations, the asides to the reader and the long across-the-series plots mixed with the in-this-book plot. "
— AllForStrongFemaleLeads, 9/6/2024" Really good narration, some of the male characters sound very similar which makes it a bit difficult to determine who is speaking at the time. "
— jmju, 5/14/2024" Have the book, the ebook and now the Audiobook! As good as I remember! Kimberly Alexis does a great job! "
— Daz, 9/23/2018" There is a hell of a lot of atmosphere in this one. Anita continues to be a badass, but there are parts where this one is genuinely scary. Probably the best one out of the first six books. "
— Foomy, 2/20/2014" See my review of Guilty Pleasures. This book is another brilliant Anita Blake novel. I can't get enought of these. "
— Taran, 1/22/2014" it took a long time to get into this book but in the end it picked up and i quite liked it "
— ~Kate~, 1/11/2014" Second in the series and even more violent than the last one. I like a creepy book every now and then and this sure fits the bill, but couldn't read too many of them in a row... too much gore, too much unbelievable gum-shoe, hard boiled but in a hot chick body musings and too many close calls. "
— Heidi, 1/9/2014" Perfection. Can;t put these books down. "
— Naomi, 12/2/2013" This was the first Anita Blake book that I read. I was hooked from this book on. "
— Larry, 10/20/2013" Really enjoy reading this book "
— Jane_purple, 10/1/2013" Awesome awesome awesome awesome! Another point for the Anita Blake series! Still cleaner than a slumber party at this point, in case anyone is wondering! ;) "
— Caitlin, 9/14/2013" Love me some original Anita "
— Ismaray, 6/20/2013" A nice follow up to the 1st book in the series. Now I know what I want to be when I grow up. "
— Tanya, 6/3/2013" it was a really good book. "
— Manisha, 3/15/2012" Like this series. Great and varied characters' tons of action, and a little gruesome:) reminds me of Jeaniene Frost! "
— Linda, 1/2/2012" I liked this book better than the first one of the series. It doesn't deal so much with vampires but you get to get to know Jean-Claude a little better, which is great. In this book the villains are more powerful and scary which makes Anita step-up to the plate in order to survive. "
— Diana, 12/19/2011" This is more True Blood than Twilight, which is great for me. Have really enjoyed the Anita Blake series so far only read the 1st 3 books. Have others in wish list. "
— Sara-lou, 8/7/2011" Trash and violent vamp murder mystery! LOVED IT! I heart Jean Claude. "
— Jammie, 5/24/2011" Can't get enough of this series. I have read up to flirt so far and can't wait to read Bullet and Hit List. "
— Erica, 5/19/2011" A more interesting, sarcastic read. Back before the series was turned into a (boring) sex fest. "
— Kikidee, 5/19/2011" Things may be picking up for her! This one was way better than the first one. "
— Caitlin, 5/18/2011" I enjoyed this book more because of Dominga rather than Anita. It was nice to have more humanish adversary than purely supernatural "
— Sonya, 5/16/2011" Really good book...love the series. A+++ "
— Cbristabelle, 5/13/2011" Another Anita Blake book equally fun with voodoo thrown in. "
