John Grisham is an American writer. He is also a politician, lawyer, and activist who has written many bestselling novels that have been translated into over 40 languages across the globe. Today, John Grisham is a name that is synonymous with modern legal thrillers.
Grisham was born on February 8, 1955. He graduated from law school in 1981 and practiced law in Southaven, Mississippi for some time, spending almost all his spare time on harnessing his hobby. He eventually gave up practicing law to become a full-time novelist where he gained worldwide recognition for his popular legal thrillers. Grisham got married to Renee in 1981, a union that produced two children, Shea and Ty. He was also a onetime member of the state House of Representatives where he served from 1983 to 1990.
Grisham published his first book, A Time to Kill, in 1989, which went on to sell over 275 million copies worldwide by the years 2012. He won the Galaxy British Book Awards and is one of the three bestselling authors whose first printing sold over 2 million copies. He established his reputation as the master of legal thrillers when both The Pelican Brief and The Client hit the top spot on the New York Times bestseller list.
Grisham's first bestselling novel, The Firm, sold over 7 million copies, which was later adapted into a film, with the same name, featuring Tom Cruise in 1993. And since then, Graham has written tons of other bestsellers including, The Runaway Jury, The Testament, The Summons, A Painted House, The Chamber, Rogue Lawyer, The Whistler, Skipping Christmas, and more, most of which have been adopted into feature films.
