Meet Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, in the first novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series that “blends the genres of romance, horror and adventure with stunning panache”(Diana Gabaldon). Laurell K. Hamilton’s bestselling series has captured readers’ wildest imaginations and addicted them to a seductive world where supernatural hungers collide with the desires of the human heart, starring a heroine like no other... Anita Blake is small, dark, and dangerous. Her turf is the city of St. Louis. Her job: re-animating the dead and killing the undead who take things too far. But when the city’s most powerful vampire asks her to solve a series of vicious slayings, Anita must confront her greatest fear—her undeniable attraction to master vampire Jean-Claude, one of the creatures she is sworn to destroy... “What The Da Vinci Code did for the religious thriller, the Anita Blake series has done for the vampire novel.”—USA Today

"Read this series a while ago, enjoyed it, but in hind sight would have stopped around #8 or #9. It's not that I find erotica distasteful, just that I had a problem with the series changing genres so drastically. Its a good series if you can get past that, or if that is what you are looking for."

" Great book, I can't wait to read more of the series! I know it was written in '93 but I had to laugh a little every time she talked about her pager. Can't wait to see what happens in the second book. "
— Katie, 2/12/2014" I love this book although I can't say that I haven't read it before. Nevertheless if the formula ain't broke don't fix it and Anita works fine for me. i've always been a sucker for girls who can kick some serious butt and Anita is that and so much more. I'm ready to start book 2! "
— Talk, 2/8/2014" good read a timid start to an awesome series "
— Alex, 2/4/2014" See Kats review..she nailed it, and she is much funnier than I could ever be! "
— Michelle, 1/29/2014" Livro confuso, nem sei o que hei-de escrever! "
— Filipa, 1/27/2014" compare to twilight & sookie stackhouse series, this one is hardcore vampire stuff and action packed. more supernaturals you may encounter; ghouls, wererats, animators & etc. "
— Steve, 1/12/2014" I don't care what anyone says Anita Blake is one of the greats. "
— Judith, 1/12/2014" I like it more than I thought I would, even started on the second. "
— Billie, 1/11/2014" Love Anita Blake and her men - fabulous. "
— Anne, 1/11/2014" Start from the being for a good cheep read! "
— Angela, 1/5/2014" The first couple books of the Anita Blake series are good, and then Anita becomes a sex fiend and I quit reading. I would have liked to see more of her necromancer powers, but I gave up because I didn't want to wade through the sex stuff. "
— Deborah, 1/3/2014" If you love reading about a strong woman, vampires, werecreatures & sex, then Anita is your girl. "
— Jilynda, 12/28/2013" Total Waste of time. The Characters felt cookie-cutter. "
— Qasim, 12/5/2013" Arguably the best of all the Anita Blake series by Hamilton. Loved the edgy, dark comedy mixed with gruesome graphic violence (but I'm just that kind of girl). Read the rest of the series complusively because of this one book. "
— Maria, 11/23/2013" It's hard to say anything about this popular book. Well, it made ma a fan right away. I do like the first books in this series more because it's still more about paranormal than Anita's inner monologues. "
— Jenny, 10/11/2013" seems ok, gonna read a few more of the books to see if i get inot them or not. liking the zombie parts "
— Weronica, 9/4/2013" I enjoyed this book. It took a little while to get into it, but once I did I was glad I stuck with it. "
— Christy, 5/17/2013" One of those books that I've read so many times that the binding cracked, so when it came out in hardback, I had to get it too. "
— Karen, 5/4/2013" This book sucked me in totally to the Supernatural Genre. I love how descriptive she is as it made me feel like I was watching a movie with each page I turned. "
— Yani, 1/24/2013" This is the beginning of the journey similar to the Story of O (with Monsters)! The following book builds up to the next. This series is not for YA readers! So expand your library and hold to your own sexual tastes. The series takes you well beyond missionary positions. "
— Novecia, 1/5/2013" Not bad. I am listening to it on audio. It keeps me interested while i am doing house and yard work. "
— Ahnya, 11/30/2012" First book of the Anita Blake Series.Really enjoyed the variety of characters baddies and goodies "
— Isabel, 9/10/2012" I liked this more than I wanted to. I wasn't crazy about the vampire part, but she is such a great storyteller. I was drawn in and did not want to stop. "
— Heidi, 1/16/2012" Trash and violent vamp murder mystery! LOVED IT! "
— Jammie, 5/24/2011" The start of a beautiful relationship. "
— Vickie, 5/22/2011" See Margot's review from 9/29/09...it expresses my every thought. I might continue this series...provided I finish all the other books on my ever-growing TBR list. "
— Teresa, 5/22/2011" I just this series....can't wait to read all of the books. A++ "
— Cbristabelle, 5/20/2011" This got me going on the whole series. Trashy, with a violent and bluntly honest protagonist... loved it. I wouldn't say it's an intellectual read, but if you read for fun and relaxation like I do, and don't mind the occasional vampire and descriptive sex scene, this is for you. "
— Stephanie, 5/19/2011" This is the first of the Anita Blake series and I have to admit, once I read it I was hooked. It's urban fantasy meets crime investigation which I have found myself to be quite the fan. Action-packed from the beginning, there is truly never a dull moment. "
— Jennifer, 5/18/2011" I finally had a chance to read this book after several recommendations. So glad I did. Great storytelling and the characters felt real. I'm definitely reading the next one. "
— Shawntelle, 5/18/2011" Finished it but couldn't see how Jim Butcher's writing instructor thought his 'voice' was similar to Laurell Hamilton. "
— T, 5/18/2011" Anita Blake my favorite ass kicking vampire slayer. "
