Lady Margaret Landor first met Sebastian Townshend as a child, when he caught her peeking into her older sister’s engagement ball. Tall, dashing, and charming, Sebastian was one of the most sought-after bachelors in Kent and cut a romantic figure she would not soon forget. Never did she dream that one day she would be living at his family’s magnificent estate with Sebastian’s father, the eighth Earl of Edgewood, as her guardian and Sebastian banished from his family due to the tragic results of a duel.

When life at Edgewood takes a sinister turn with the earl suffering a suspicious number of life-threatening accidents, Margaret wonders if Sebastian’s younger brother and his wife have grown impatient to inherit the earldom. Setting out to find the one man she believes can set the situation to rights, she discovers that Sebastian Townshend has forged a new identity for himself on the continent.

Now known as The Raven, a deadly mercenary, notorious for accomplishing any mission no matter how seemingly impossible, he has vowed never to return to England. Not until Margaret meets his outrageous monetary demands does Sebastian agree to return home, reluctantly posing as her husband in order to facilitate his return to society. When he learns she cannot afford to pay his fee, he suggests a scandalous trade.

As Margaret and Sebastian work to uncover the intrigue at his father’s estate, a fierce passion blooms that neither of them anticipated and neither can resist. But can Margaret persuade Sebastian to abandon the dark path he believes is his fate and claim the life—and love—he deserves? Breathtaking in scope and wondrously passionate, Marriage Most Scandalous is Johanna Lindsey at her finest.

" This one was just OK for me. I forgot how mild Ms. Lindsey's love scenes are. I'm not sure I like any of the characters all that much and can't figure out how they fell in love. I did like the narrator though. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Lindsay | 2/17/2014

" Good character development, and the romance developed plausibly over time. The resolution was very far-fetched, but until then it was quite entertaining. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Michele | 2/14/2014

" This was a bit of fluff, typical historical romance, but it made me laugh and I just needed that! "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Margaret Peavey | 2/8/2014

" Not one of her best "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Eve | 1/31/2014

" My first Johanna Lindsey novel. It teaches me that, in a romance novel, the romantic tension is secondary to the common problem faced by the two main characters. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Rach3975 | 1/27/2014

" I usually like Johanna Lindsey's books for quick reads that draw me fully into the characters' lives. There was something about this one that just didn't work-I never liked the characters that much and wasn't rooting for them. I hardly ever give up on a book, but I'm 3/4 of the way through and debating whether to finish or bail. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Brooke | 1/17/2014

" Better than I expected... This book was equal parts mystery and romance. This is the first really well done attempt at a mystery that I've read of Lindsey's and I loved it! "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Debbie | 1/17/2014

" Johanna Lindsey did a wonderful job with this book. She created a hero who was brave, handsome, honorable and wounded. Her heroine was strong and sweet. A truly enjoyable read. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Shannon Cheek | 1/1/2014

" I live Johanna Lindsay and this was a decent read but not one of her best but still entertaining. "

" I have read every johanna lindsey book out there more than once, except this one. For some reason, this one just didn't resonate with me. I should probably read it again, just to see if I like it more this time, but there just always seems to be something else I'd rather read. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Deborah Marshall | 10/31/2013

" It was a bit slow at the beginning. I must admit I even fell asleep several times while trying to get through the first few chapters, but one I got into it, it was hard to put down. I loved the twist at the end and how everything was explained. It had a nice, "happily ever after", ending. "

" I use to love Johanna Lindsey's books. This one is good but not her best. I know this review is short and lacking on detail, but I have added many books tonight for the purpose of swapping and this is one of them. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Heather | 1/31/2012

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Connie | 1/24/2012

" This book was very good. It had a great story, filled with death and deception. It had lots of twists that I never saw coming. The characters were great and even when you didn't like them all you found yourself routing for them. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Katherine ang | 6/19/2011

" The book was great. The twists were unexpected. However, I did not rated it 5 star because I think the story was quite short. There was not enough scenes, not enough plots. I felt that it was written in a rush. A longer story would have been better. Even so, it was good. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Dany | 5/17/2011

" estuvo bastante bueno, entretenido, muy fluida como historia romántica. Pero bajo el mismo y aburrido patrón de la escritora. En conclusión: FUE PREDECIBLE. ¬¬

Por lo menos, estuvo barato. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Renfrew | 4/27/2011

" Bleh. Far-fetched. Nothing to recommend the hero for (why did our otherwise intelligent heroine marry him/eventually fall in love with him?). Plodding plot. Contractions throughout dialogue make it seem as though the characters mumble. Frustrating. Disappointing. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Zignema | 4/7/2011

" I like Sebastian and Margaret a lot as characters but the situation that bring them together is really silly. The explanation of all the problems really childish. The marriage excuse predictable but then again you know what to expect with this type of book. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Dee | 4/6/2011

" Not one of her better novels. "

" the book was enjoyable. I liked that the herione was witty and did not always stick to the expected responses when asked an embarassing question. I was a bit dissapointed with the revelations towards the end. "
