Nine years ago, Richard Allen fled England and his controlling father. Determined to live his own life, he took to the sea and settled in the Caribbean, joining a band of treasure-hunting pirates and adopting the persona of a carefree, seductive Frenchman named Jean Paul to guard the secrets of his past. When he slips back into England to carry out an urgent task, Richard becomes infatuated with a married woman, Georgina Malory. But his reckless attempt to woo Georgina at a masked ball turns out to be the worst mistake of his life because it brings him face-to-face with another beautiful woman. Thrilled that her solicitors have finally come up with a way to free her from her betrothal contract to the Earl of Manford’s son who abandoned her years ago, heiress Julia Miller is ready for the marriage mart and hopes to find that perfect someone at her friend Georgina’s ball. Charmed by a masked Frenchman who gives her her first kiss, she can’t help but pursue this mysterious man — until she makes a shocking discovery. Now, to avoid falling into a ruthless nobleman’s trap, Julia must enter a risky, intimate charade with a man she never believed she could love.

"As always, I loved this book by Johanna Lindsey. It's a Malory novel, but the characters are not related to them. I kinda wished there was more Malory sarcasm and characters in this. As I was reading it I thought it was a little predictable until about halfway in. There are some twists that make the story better than I originally thought. The one thing I'll complain about is that most of her novels make me lol, but with this one it was mostly tension and she kinda hurried through the funny happy parts."

" I really liked how the hero and heroine interacted in the story. Unfortunately, I could see them as living in contemporary times -- the way they acted and talked -- NOT in the historical setting they were supposed to be living. I just had to ignore all of that and enjoy the story and the characters. C+ rating. "
— Kendra, 2/2/2014" Love the characters in the Malory Series. Made me want to go back and read the other books again. "
— Jane, 2/1/2014" I liked it. It was better than Ms. Lindsey's last few releases. The beginning started out slow and the characters didn't have traits that I cared for, but they really grew further into the book. I'm glad I kept on reading. I wouldn't purchase this book unless I found it in a UBS and for cheap cheap, but I did like the book. It reminded me of Nick and Regina's story a little, not the plot itself but the emotions of the H/h, and that is probably my fave book by Ms. Lindsey. I'd recommend it to anyone who is a fan of hers. "
— T.L., 1/29/2014" Another delightful read from Johanna Lindsey! "
— Cari, 1/8/2014" Oh my god. I think this one of her best novels ever. I fell in love instantly with this book, eventhough Richard was being such an ass at first but....meh.... I still love him.hahaha. "
— Camille, 12/11/2013" Okay, so I already broke my "no abs on the cover" rule, but this one was part of a great series and it was actually really cute. "
— Lisa, 11/27/2013" I started this book and i could not put it down!! this is the first book of johanna lindseys books i have read!! LOVE IT! wonderful charachters!! "
— ☠BeautyIsABeastâ˜, 11/20/2013" I love Johanna Lindsey and her books, this wasn't the best of the Malory Family books but still enjoyable. "
— Danielle, 5/3/2013" I was glad Johanna Lindsey gave Jean Paul aka Richard his own story. I loved him as the secondary character in Captive of My Desires. And, I love this book. It was great to find out his secret finally! Love it. "
— Crystal, 2/2/2013" I enjoyed this book. It wasn't as good as some of the earlier Malory books. Like a previous reviewer said, the formula of James beating up people and rescuing them at sea is getting a bit old. I almost wish she would stop with the Malory books. "
— Melissa, 10/5/2012" I like this book because they did not dilly dally around so much about saying what they really feel however the connection to the Mallory family is really slim, so I don't think it should be considered part of the series. "
— Zignema, 6/21/2012" loved it... she's one of my favorite authors "
— Shalon, 6/17/2012" Lucu banget.... Apalagi wktu ricard n julia kecil yg barantem terus..... Dari mulai nonjok smpe ricard hidungny patah.... Smpe gigit telinga.... Ckckck julia kecil cocokny jd wanita amazon.... "
— Miss, 2/14/2011" sepertinya ini bukan malory family ya, abis julia kan bukan malory hehehe, ceritanya lumayan seru... "
— Dina, 11/2/2010" I would have rated this higher, because it was a very good book, but I found myself discontent with the way some things got resolved. A good book though. "
— Melowin, 7/20/2010" Very nice romance. Was great to see more of the Malory family. Would recommend it as a very enjoyable historical romance. "
