Firedrake, a young dragon, receives a frightening warning one night: Humans are planning to destroy the valley in which he lives! All the dragons must flee. Their only refuge is a place above the clouds called the Rim of Heaven -- which may not even exist. Firedrake boldly volunteers to go ahead first. As he embarks on his journey, he meets Ben, a runaway boy. Together, the boy and the dragon make their way toward the Rim of Heaven, all the while running a step ahead of Nettlebrand, a monster who will stop at nothing to hunt down Firedrake. Their quest will truly become an adventure like no other.

"The book was really good it was really fun because of all the different kinds of characters working together and how it gave imagination a twist. The topic of the book was really interesting about how the golden dragon wants to kill all the silver dragons. It kind of reminds me of the wizard of oz because they meet a lot of characters on the way. It is also cool that a boy and a silver dragon can change so many things by making them right and destroying the golden dragon"

" This is definitely a five star for me. The way its done is amazing!!! You actually feel like you part of the adventure!!! Who cares what this Mason guy commented by giving it 2 stars. He's insane!!! "
— Korban, 2/4/2022" Brendan Fraser brings you his book to life with creative narrating. Great story. "

— 12/16/2018" The dialogue for this book was really cute. The interections between the characters as a whole was excellent really. I'm a big fan of mythical creatures, it seems like forever since I've read a book about dragons. I need to read about them more often because I was just facinated. Great book anyways. Although, some events seemed more complex then they had to be. There was a huge debate on solutions to a certain problem at one point and I could think of dozens. But that's just me. "
— Jamie, 2/16/2014" I listened to the audio version with Brendan Fraser as the narrator. He is a true talent for this bringing each character to life. I think it made all the difference in the world as to how I was pulled into the story. Colorful characters and a fast moving plot weaved by Funke. It is meant more for a younger audience but is a fun story. All the characters equally contributed to the outcome. "
— Vickie, 2/12/2014" A touching friendship! Loved it! "
— Christianne, 2/7/2014" Honestly, I liked Igraine the Brave much more than I liked Dragon Rider. We read it aloud together. The plot was very slow-moving and lacked development in some areas. "
— Wiley, 2/3/2014" listened to this audiobook in car read by brendan fraser. i really enjoyed his voices of the characeters. i probably paid more attention to that than the actual story (that's why i gave it a 3 instead of a 2). i love dragon stories, so it was a really fun for me. "
— Cara, 1/22/2014" When I read this in elementary school, I would have shit my pants and given it a six and a half stars, but now I see that the writing is poor and boring and bleh. Read it when you're little and let it remain awesome in your head. "
— Mason, 1/14/2014" I had to abandon it. I felt guilty but it was just too boring to read. "

— Samantha, 5/6/2013" My 9 year old checked this out from her classroom library and told me it was so good and I just had to read it. Definitely an enjoyable and exciting story for grade schoolers who love stories with magical creatures and dragon adventures! "
— Linda, 2/17/2013" So good! The kids and I took a long time to get through this book but we all loved it. I was impressed that the story really held their attention while at the same time using challenging vocabulary (something that is sometimes lacking in adventure books). "
— Denise, 1/22/2013" A boy, a dragon, a brownie, talking rats, fairies, adventure. I can understand why this is some of my kids' favorite book. If this had been out when I was a kid it would have been one of mine. "

— Phoebe, 11/2/2011" an odd story, very different and hard to follow "
— Theresa, 9/13/2011" This book is worth reading but is very slow at some places. "
— Jairin, 6/28/2011" Hmm... It was okay. I think the main reason why I didn't like this book very well is because I just don't like Funke's style of writing. The words seem so plain at times and don't flow very well. Maybe I'm just too picky about that sort of thing, because my sister liked it alot! "
— Brenna, 6/24/2011" Honestly, I liked Igraine the Brave much more than I liked Dragon Rider. We read it aloud together. The plot was very slow-moving and lacked development in some areas. "
