Publisher Description

Igraine, who turns twelve tomorrow, dreams of becoming a famous knight. But today, like most days, life at the family castle remains . . . rather boring. Until the nefarious nephew of the baroness-next-door shows up. Greedy Osmund’s got a dastardly plan to capture Pimpernel Castle and steal the singing magic books that belong to Igraine’s mom and dad. Complicating matters, on the eve of the siege her parents misspeak a spell and turn themselves into pigs! (How inconvenient.) Igraine’s birthday wish has come true, and the challenge is bigger than she ever bargained for: Will she face her fears and find the courage to save the day–and the books?

"This is a great fictional story about a young girl growing up in an old castle with a family of magicians and all she can think about is wanting to be a knight. She finally gets to prove her mettle when the evil Osmund the Greedy attacks the castle in an attempt to steal the magical books that her parents have been entrusted with, at the same time that her parents have mistakenly turned themselves into pigs. Lots of fun to read with my 10 and 11 year old boys. Igraine is sweet, brave, and endearing."

" fun read, that I would feel comfortable suggesting to most kids, boys and girls. Magic and knights! Igraine is a very strong willed main character, and while she is a girl, I think that all the knights and magic will still appeal to boys. I read it one night, in just a few hours, so it is a nice, quick read. "

" I liked when i was 11 but I now think it quite childish. I read the "Inkheart" trilogy first thats why i tried this one. I would say it was intend for 8 to 11 year olds. I recomend it to people who like reading fantasy (girls as well as boys). "

" I really liked this "knight" story for girls. Igraine is the daughter of two magicians but really wants to be a knight. She gets to try the life of a knight when her parents accidentally turn themselves into pigs and she must help defend her castle against enemies. "

" This gentle fantasy is great for the younger crowd. It's interesting and exciting without being too scary or dark or threatening. Igraine's family is full of love and concern, and even the teasing of her brother and the disapproval of her parents isn't too stinging. "

" Clyde really seemed to enjoy this one. It was longer than the ones we had attempted in the past. Igraine comes from a family of magicians but she wants to be a knight. When some magic goes awry it's up to her and her older brother to save the day, their castle and their parents. "

" This was a fun book to read with the boys. They really liked it and didn't want to skip reading nights which is a sign of a good book. The writing was simple and clear and the story amusing and the main character and her older brother were capable and brave. Recommended for the 8 to 12 year old set. "
