"Cornelia Funke has another good novel on her hands. After the "Inkheart" series and "Dragon Rider", I felt like she was having trouble getter another novel of substance. This book will get to the reader from page one. A young lad is sent away to a boarding school by his mother and his soon-to-be step-father. Every step of the way, his hate for the man taking his father's place is all consuming. He finds that the English boarding school is the same his father attended. It isn't long before dangerous ghosts are making an appearance and making it know that they have a grudge against his mother's family and want him dead along with any others with the family heritage. Jon asks for help from the dead knight, Longspee. This leads him and his new friend, Ella, into a dangerous journey that could cost him his life. I think that students will become involved and love this book."

" When Jon is banished to boarding school, he has no idea what awaits him. Targeted by a terrifying ghost posse, he and his friend Ella must solve an ancient mystery, trust a somewhat dubious ghost knight and dodge the creepy spirits who wish him dead. Beautifully illustrated, with an extensive glossary, this is classic Funke at her best. "
— Laura, 1/24/2014" Pretty decent book by Cornelia Funke. the characters were very strong and individual, so I really liked that. And there was some tiny plot twists that made it worth while. This book is definitely for younger kids though some older kids and fans of Funke may get some enjoyment out of it. "
— Nicole, 1/17/2014" Funke and I had the same tour guide in Salisbury which led us to write in one way or another about Ela of Salisbury. Even though this is a YA title, both of us adults in our household enjoyed it on Kindle. Then we bought a hard cover for our Grandson's birthday. "
— Dorothy, 12/5/2013" By the award-winning author of Dragon Rider and the Inkheart series, this brand new book is full of lots of mysteries, twists and turns. "
— Ratforcekids, 11/10/2013" Fun new book by Cornelia! There is a bit of swearing, but not much. I enjoyed this book! "
— Valerie, 10/31/2013" Fun middle grade ghost adventure. "
— Elsa, 10/28/2013" Great adventure for the Harry Potter crowd. Funke is a writer who can weave historic details into a very modern story without making it seem plodding or heavy handed. This would be a wonderful story to read out loud to nine and up who crave sword fights and ghost stories with happy endings. "
— Julia, 10/25/2013" The audiobook was named an Odyssey Honor, so I listened to this one. Excellent reader and just the right amount of spooky. A bit of language, so I would recommend this one to older elementary and middle school. "
— Hoover, 10/21/2013" I really liked this book! The characters developed really well, and I enjoyed all of the descriptions. "
— Thomas, 5/14/2013" My children loved this book! I found it well written and entertaining. I liked the detail that the author included in the book that she discovered on a visit to Saulisbury. "
— Kathy, 2/7/2013" Erscheinungstermin 08/2011 "
— Susewig, 12/1/2012" Great story - I completely appreciated the betrayal Jon felt with being replaced as the 'man of the family' by the Beard, and then being sent to boarding school. Jon's ability to cope in the new environment is impressive - handling ghosts, making friends and not ruining his reputation. "
— Ryan, 11/5/2012" This is for a younger audience with a 10 year old hero. I thought it was well done. "
— Marsha, 9/8/2012" a fun, quick story - perfect for boys or girls, which is rare in children's literature. Funke is one of my favorites, and this one does not disappoint. "
