Although a year has passed, not a day goes by without Meggie thinking of Inkheart, the book whose characters came to life–and changed her life forever. But for Dustfinger, the fire-eater brought into being from words, the need to return to the original tale has become desperate. When he finds a crooked storyteller with the magical ability to read him back, Dustfinger leaves behind his young apprentice Farid and plunges into the medieval inkscape once more. Distraught, Farid goes in search of Meggie, and before long both are caught inside the book, too. There they meet Inkheart's author, Fenoglio, now living within his own story. But the tale is much changed, and threatening to evolve in ways none of them would have ever imagined. Will Meggie, Farid, and Fenoglio manage to write the wrongs of a charmed world? Or is their story on the brink of a very bad ending?

"I liked it a lot, but I found myself getting slightly more irritated with a lot of the main characters - mostly Fengolio, Farid & Meggie. For example, Farid's over the top idol worship of Dustfinger was a little too much for me. I thought the plot was very interesting and it took a lot of unexpected twists and turns, but I think I enjoyed the first book more. I am very curious to see what lies ahead in the final book of the series."

— GirlintheGlades, 12/4/2024" I like this book.. But its not the best one i have read.... It babbles on a little "
— Alaeyahrox, 2/8/2014" couldnt get past the 1st chapter no where near as good as the first one. "
— Maya, 2/7/2014" Another book I just couldn't put down. I was sucked into this book right after reading Ink Heart. You will feel as though you are right there with the characters. It is great! Cornelia Funke is an amazing author. "
— Erica, 2/3/2014" My Favorite of the InkHeart trilogy! "
— Puke, 1/26/2014" Children's Book for all ages. Wow, I liked this even better than Inkheart. Dustfinger is an enthralling anti-hero. "
— puppitypup, 1/21/2014" I found the story interesting, but not gripping. The characters and imagery were not always easy to picture or follow. With that said, when I finished, I found that I was in the middle of a story, with another book in front of me. I went to the library and checked it out (Inkdeath). So I must care enough to see what happens next. "
— Candace, 1/18/2014" BRILLIANT ! left me wanting so much more!! "
— Skye, 1/14/2014" I am still reading this book, and it is very good. "

— Leeza, 11/9/2013" I thought that this was a great continuation of the story from the first book, Ink Heart. This book too is quite hefty so don't be easily discouraged. This book takes place in Ink World. "
— Kimberlee, 9/9/2013" Looking forward to the next one! I think if you liked the first one you will like this as well. "
— Janet, 8/28/2013" Really really nice. First serie a read in German, easy reading but nice story-lines even for adults "
— Eifos, 8/10/2013" The Ink story is amazing. I can't wait to read the last book. "
— Signe, 5/31/2013" An enjoyable read that is similar in style to Harry Potter or Fablehaven series. Even though the plot isn't as intricate as these books, the characters are well written and the style in enjoyable. This is book number 2 of a trilogy, and I plan to (eventually) read the last book. "
— Sammypbaird, 3/24/2013" The second book in the trilogy. The possibilities in this series continue to grow and play with the mind. Touching, exciting, intriguing, and more. At first, I though the first book would be hard to beat, but this book certainly lives up to the first and possibly even surpasses it. "
— Crystal, 12/14/2012" love this series; on to the third book. "
— Christine, 11/1/2012" Inkspell, there is lots to say but I cant find the words. In some ways it was better then Inkheart because it wasnt as pradictable but............ hmmmmm it was kinda slow at times. It was hard for me to read it and it took me about two months to actually finish it. "
— Soph...*Lock&Key*, 5/28/2012" I enjoyed Inkspell but i think that it was quite hard to follow all the characters and once. "
— Makayla, 4/22/2012" Worth reading until the last page! I would say better than Inkheart. Totally drawn in every characters, especially Dustfinger and the "black prince" having very interesting personalities. This book is not only for young ones but also to young at hearts:) Now reading Inkdeath... "
— Macky, 4/3/2012" Very good, need to read the next one!?!- Is there one? "
— Susannah, 2/21/2012" This one dragged until almost to the end. But it was still captivating enough to keep me interested. I am not liking the character Meggie, and even less her mother, Resa. Don't know why, I just don't like them. "
— Lil, 1/14/2012" After reading the first book I couldn't wait to read the second. I really enjoy Funke's style of writing, her descriptive powers and the world she creates. I'm really looking forward to reading the third book. "
— Angela, 12/1/2011" Better than the first one. Love Dustfinger :) "
— Amena, 11/30/2011" Not as captivating as the first book (Inkheart). Not as big a payoff as I expected. Hopefully, the series will go out with a bang with the trilogy's finale. "
— Mike, 6/29/2011" I have to say...it was my favorite book out of the 3 (Inkheart, Inkspell and Inkdeath) somehow I found it more...lovely? I really dont know maybe the plot and the characters that were intorduced in it made it more amazing for me!<br/>I think thats my favorite book so far! =) "

— Chanelle, 6/27/2011" The one book out of the Inkheart trilogy that I didn't get bored with. So I can safely say The best of Cornelia Funke is here in this book. "
— Cecilia, 6/25/2011" Inkspell wasn't as good as Inkheart. Mainly because everything to so confusing, and I just ... didn't like it all that much. But when you get into the book, it's pretty good. "

— Kathryn, 6/17/2011" world inside a world...parallel universe...where we are allowed to go.! "
— Nikolina, 6/15/2011" This book is also really good. Meggie and Farid go into inkheart. But everything is not right; a prince is dead, his father is depressed, and a bad guy is about to be the new king. "
— Anna, 6/13/2011" I got bored with this, and didn't finish it. "
— Theresa, 6/12/2011" This was a shocker to me. I thought the book Inkheart was one book itself. Inkspell brings Maggie and Silvertounge, her father, into a WHOLE differnt adventure. Many journeys await in this book that no reader will EVER imagine! "
