"Are you a gifted child looking for special opportunities?" Dozens of children respond to this peculiar ad in the newspaper and are then put through a series of mind-bending tests, which readers take along with them. Only four children--two boys and two girls--succeed. Their challenge: to go on a secret mission that only the most intelligent and inventive children could complete. To accomplish it they will have to go undercover at the Learning Institute for the Very Enlightened, where the only rule is that there are no rules. " I really enjoyed reading this with my 5th grader - great youth book - I would say 4th to 6th grade. If your child is reading alone, would depend on their reading level. "

" This one took me a little while to get into, but I'm glad I did and stayed with it to the end. The characters are all delightfully quirky. While it is not always realistic, it is consistent and thoughtful and I enjoyed the plot. It had a great opportunity for creating tension, but did not deliver. The heroes tended to escape their dilemmas too easily each time. But the overall plot, the danger of Mr Curtain and the Whisperer were really compelling and interesting. Renny was my favorite character. Lots of twists and turns along the way. A good story. "
