Great cast of characters, lots of cool puzzles and mysteries. This book reminded me of some of the better children's books I grew up with, like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Phantom Tollbooth.

— Horn Book" Bookish and British are the best ways I can describe it. It's not British, but it has that British feel. I like it, but it also felt kind of long. "
— Kevin, 2/14/2014" I really enjoyed reading this with my 5th grader - great youth book - I would say 4th to 6th grade. If your child is reading alone, would depend on their reading level. "
— Camille, 2/10/2014" This one took me a little while to get into, but I'm glad I did and stayed with it to the end. The characters are all delightfully quirky. While it is not always realistic, it is consistent and thoughtful and I enjoyed the plot. It had a great opportunity for creating tension, but did not deliver. The heroes tended to escape their dilemmas too easily each time. But the overall plot, the danger of Mr Curtain and the Whisperer were really compelling and interesting. Renny was my favorite character. Lots of twists and turns along the way. A good story. "
— Jeff, 2/6/2014" Slow! I did not not finish this book. It was too long and drawn out. "

— Jackalacka, 11/21/2013" This book was nothing earth-shaking. I was hoping to see more puzzles and to be more challenged by them, but maybe if I had read this when younger it would have satisfied those requirements better. Still, in the end it was enjoyable just the same. "
— Erin, 11/18/2013" A lovely tale with plenty of twists and surprises. Stewart lets the characters develop and, while some of the action may be improbable, avoids the heavy deus ex machina pitfalls that are often used to get out of plot traps. I'll be continuing this series. "
