TMI Biographies

There are biographies and then there are…biographies. If you’re looking for an audible tone to help lull you to sleep- the likes of the history of Alexander Hamilton or one of the Tudors (well, we at AudiobookSTORE.com have those too) – these are not the bios for you. Riddled with reluctant confessions, wild turns that feel like fiction, and hard-earned evolutions, these biographies bring all the drama and straight-up wild scenarios to keep you on the edge of your seat. Any one of these biographies will have you wondering – who needs fiction when apparently real life is even wilder?

I’m Glad My Mom Died – Janette McCurdy

There’s a reason this was an instant bestseller- the second you start reading you’ll be hooked. Read by McCurdy herself, you’ll find yourself hilariously (at times heartbreakingly) along for the ride as you learn about her rise to child fame, the pressures and highs that came with it, and how it influenced her struggles with addiction and food. But the most fascinating (and disturbing) aspect that hangs over all of that, is her complex, loving, inappropriate and disorienting relationship with her overbearing mother. We don’t even know- just listen.

Undisputed Truth – Mike Tyson

We’re gonna be honest, before listening to this book the most we knew about Mike Tyson was that he bit someone’s ear off. So like, not exactly winning at stability in our book. BUT this one def packed a redemptive punch, frankly it was inspiring to hear how a poor black man rose from obscurity and poverty, crashed and burned multiple times, and somehow came out the other side relatively unscathed (we supposed that face tattoo is a small price to pay to escape with success).

High on Arrival – Mackenzie Phillips

Oof, this one is heavy. What do you do when it’s your parents who are literally injecting you with cocaine, and you’re 11? Find out when you listen to Mackenzie Phillips’ haunting and at times down-right difficult account of growing up under the authority of a rockstar father- and all the fallout that came with it. We’re happy to reveal that she’s in a much more stable and grounded place these days, but you won’t want to miss hearing about the troubled road that ultimately led her to some hard-fought stability.

A Billion Years – Mike Rinder

Finally, learn some of the most bizarre secrets of Scientology from someone who lived it. Mike Rinder was in the upper echelons of the notorious “religion” until he made the difficult (and at times dangerous) decision to defect. Born into the controversial movement, Scientology was all Rinder knew, and as he grew up it became not only his religion but also his job. But what do you do when you discover that both are shams, and that to escape means risking your livelihood, reputation, and maybe even your life?
