Publisher Description

In this thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling phenomenon, Eve Dallas tracks down those who break the law—including the ones sworn to uphold it.

Detective Eve Dallas and her partner, Peabody, are following up on a senseless crime—an elderly grocery owner killed by three stoned punks for nothing more than kicks and snacks. This is Peabody's first case as primary detective—good thing she learned from the master.

But soon Peabody stumbles upon a trickier situation. After a hard workout, she's all alone in the locker room when the gym door clatters open, and—while hiding inside a shower stall trying not to make a sound—she overhears two fellow officers arguing. It doesn't take long to realize they're both crooked—guilty not just of corruption but of murder. Now Peabody, Eve, and Eve's husband, Roarke, are trying to get the hard evidence they need to bring down the dirty cops—knowing all the while that the two are willing to kill to keep their secret.

"Eve, Peabody and her team are at it again--ridding the world of another killer--this time the killer is a cop, a really bad cop. The fact that a cop threatens what Eve holds most dear, honor, integrity and the badge, really pisses Eve off. Plus, she wants revenge for said bad cop scaring Peabody. The team of familiar characters pops up again in this book. There is some good lovin' with Roarke and tender moments when we see how much Eve values her squad and how they value her. I always like Eve and always root for her, but this book made her more human to me."

" There have only been 2 or 3 of the In Death series that have made me shed a few tears, and this was one of them. There were a few parts in the book that just had me tearing up, and I don't do that often in a book focused mainly on a homicide. I also loved how Eve went up against LT Renee Oberman. Eve is bad-ass anyways, but she really let it fly with Renee. I loved how she would bait her into losing her temper and then when Renee challenged her to a hand-to-hand....ha ha BIIIIIG mistake on her part. Overall, I have to give this In Death book 5 stars! "

" An fresh addition to the Eve Dallas series. It's difficult to make a book fresh so far into a series, but j. D. Robb (Nora Roberts) definitely achieves it with this book. The same characters are there, but there's very little cookie cutter to this book and the plot is new and fresh. I very much enjoyed this book. "

" This was the latest in the Lt. Eve Dallas series. I enjoyed this episode. There wasn't as much angst as other in the series. The book had good banter between the characters. It isn't great literature but it is a very enjoyable series. I think this was the 39th in the series. "

" I was more than pleased with this story - it was one of the most hard-to-put-down installments in the last several, in my opinion. Even though readers are told almost from the get-go who the villains are, it does not make this novel any less suspenseful. It was fascinating to read how Dallas and company built the case and boxed in the bad guys and I have to say the apex was as satisfying to me as it was to Eve! "

" Love all the J.D. Robb books and liked the twist that Peabody was in charge of the investigation this time. Even though this is the 32nd book, the characters continue to evolve and keep me engaged. And, it's also quite amazing that the plots don't repeat themselves! "
