Publisher Description

When the newly promoted captain of the NYPSD and his wife return a day early from their vacation, they are looking forward to spending time with their bright and vivacious sixteen-year-old daughter, who stayed behind. Not even their worst nightmares could prepare them for the crime scene that awaits them instead. Deena has been brutally murdered in her bedroom, and her body shows signs of trauma that horrify even the toughest of cops, including our own Lieutenant Eve Dallas, who is specifically requested by the captain to investigate. When the evidence starts to pile up, Dallas and her team think they are about to arrest their perpetrator; little do they know that someone has gone to great lengths to tease and taunt them by using a variety of identities. Overconfidence can lead to careless mistakes. But for Dallas, one mistake might be all she needs to serve justice.

"Eve is called in to solve the brutal rape and murder of a cop's daughter. It brings back a lot of bad memories but Eve speaks for the dead and nothing is going to silence her now. It's a complex case and takes everyone's skills to find the murderer. It is a complex plot but Robb manages to tie everything together while still making time for Charles and Louise's wedding. It's pretty graphic but the relationship between Roarke and Eve is always entertaining."

" Another really good read. Eve investigates the death of a young girl, the daughter of a cop. It becomes linked to a second murder, and through that Eve discovers that any others are slated to be killed, in the twisted revenge of a young man whose mother was killed. Eve is coming to terms with her own abuse and there is good scenes with Roarke, although Peabody is rather absent. "

" J.D Robb has packed this book with action, mystery and suspense. you never know what will happen next. in the back of your mind every second you read this. you will hate the murderer. feel bad for Deena. and most of all you will become the police. "

" In this Eve Dallas novel, Eve is once again trying to balance her domestic life with her life as one of New York's top cops. When her captain calls her in on the brutal rape and murder of a sixteen-year-old girl, Dallas quickly learns the victim is the daughter of another newly promoted captain in the New York police department and the two captains are not only colleagues, but close personal friends. Eve is the only one either trusts on this case, but Eve's involvement comes at personal cost as memories of her own abuse at the hands of her father filter through the brutality. Eve and her team, including her hunky husband Roark of course, quickly discover that this murder was not an isolated incident and must race to catch a vengeful serial killer before anyone else loses a loved one. A fast-paced, enjoyable read. "

" Another good read from J.D. Robb. I always enjoy reading about her characters. The storyline was a good one about revenge and about things we are told versus reality. I think that she could have taken the storyline a bit deeper, but no complaints about it. "

" Not much to say about this story. Once again I enjoyed an Eve Dallas mystery. This one, we learn more details about Eve's past which isn't pretty. Roarke is once again a lovely and supportive husband. There's just something lovely about this man. I wish there was more about Roarke. "
