Number Twelve is an urban legend in 2060 New York City. The hot club in the 1960s, it is now reported to be haunted…and cursed. Lieutenant Eve Dallas is called there to investigate the apparent murder of Radcliff Hopkins, its new owner and the grandson of the man who made Number Twelve a cultural icon. Several bullets from a banned gun end his dream of returning the building to its former glory. With everyone around her talking about the supernatural, pragmatic Eve won’t let rumors of ghosts distract her from hard evidence. The case becomes even more bizarre when it appears to be linked to the suspicious disappearance of a rock star eighty-five years ago. As Eve searches for the connection, logic clashes with the unexplainable. She may be forced to face the threat of something more dangerous than a flesh-and-blood killer.

"This was a novella in a book with two others, "Three In Death." It was only 100 pages, whereas the usual length of her books is over 300. I really liked this, but prefer the novels. Of course, nothing is really haunted, however, everyone but Eve believes that 12, a former NY hot spot, is haunted. As usual, I did not figure out who the murderer was until Eve did."

" Another Eve Dallas story. This is a short story and once again Ms. Robb (Roberts) does a great job in suspense and crime solving. Dallas is my favourite kick ass cop. I read every single book with her in it. "
— ♆, 2/19/2014" I had a difficult time getting into this story. As usual, Eve closed the case with the team's help, but I didn't like the story and because it was so short, it went by too quickly for me and didn't give me enough time to get into it. "
— Lidia, 2/17/2014" A little predictable but still a fun read. "
— Kim, 2/4/2014" The whole series of short stories seem to follow some sort of occult/supernatural theme. Ok but want her to get back to writing full novels that add more to the characters. "
— Amanda, 1/23/2014" not as good as the rest, but still enjoyable! "
— Sotiria, 1/19/2014" Eve can make turn even the spookiest expeperience into solid realism. God, does she make me laugh XD "
— Adi, 1/10/2014" I like supernatural mysteries okay, and I like the Eve Dallas books, but this is not a peanut butter + chocolate scenario. "
— Jessica, 1/10/2014" Once again J.D Robb turns out an awesome book. This is one of the novellas of the "In Death" series, but still a great book. I'll be sad once I finish this series because it's been so intriguing! "
— Jeannette, 12/26/2013" Odd for the J.D. Robb books, we get a ghost story. Eve is a skeptic, but Roarke seems to believe the ghost is real. Decent short, but I still prefer the full length books. As soon as you get into the story, it's over. "
— mlady_rebecca, 12/19/2013" Funny how Eve doesn't believe in the paranormal even with all the sightings. "
— Abegail, 11/25/2013" My first of the series - Plan to read more. The characters are interesting! Tough woman cop, executive husband. "
— Chevonne, 10/31/2013" This is the third story I read on the Lt. Eve Dallas series, this novella was short and funny, with super logical, always angry and non-believing-in-ghosts Eve Dallas trying to solve a crime while everyone around her talks about ghosts and curses. Pretty entertaining. "
— Ellie, 10/6/2013" This was a creepy book, just loved reading it, and yeah, must read more! "
— Louisa, 10/2/2013" An okay read given the fact that the plot was deathly common. "
— Jane, 8/2/2013" Great book, can't wait for the next. "
— Paxton, 3/1/2013" Eve Dallas discovers that all is not as it seems in a murder that seems to come from beyond the grave. Interesting commentary on popular culture. "
— S, 1/26/2013" This is probably my favourite so far of the short novels in this series. It has the same slightly less than fully satisfying speed to it, but it also has a ghost story. Fun! "
— Kathleen, 11/6/2012" I love this series. I read it over and over "
— Ava, 10/14/2012" Short story. 23 1/2 in series. "
— Janis, 1/20/2012" 3.5 stars...but short stories rarely get high ratings from me. Fun and funny read and still love Eve, Roarke and company. "
— Crazy4more, 10/29/2011" This In Death series novella was just ok--it wasn't awful, but it was rather dry and uneventful. "
— Christine, 8/14/2011" Another really good book in this enjoyable series! "
— Jana, 5/8/2011" Ah, another great Lieutenant Eve Dallas and Roarke book! You can see the action as if watching a movie while you read. "
— Sharon, 5/5/2011" This was a great JD Robb book. JD Robb's mysteries are always a book I read in 1 or 2 days because I do not want to put the book down. She is fun writer and it is a light read. "
— Bonnie, 5/1/2011" I like how Eve's softer, more emotional side is coming out in the later books in the In Death Series. Could've used more of it based in Ireland, but that's a personal preference, not a flaw.
All in all a good read, hard to put the book down. "
— Shirl, 4/28/2011" I really enjoy this series. This book was as well written, engaging, and as fun to read as the rest. Keep them coming!! (er, as in, more books please) "
— Karen, 4/18/2011" Eve and Roarke in fine form. One of the best of this long-running series. "
— Stephanie, 4/16/2011" This wasn't my favorite Death book. I really liked the beginning, but it lagged big time in the middle, and raced to the finish, and had an abrupt ending. It seemed to take me a long time to read this one.
"
