Author Elin Hilderbrand

5 Reasons You’re Bound to Fall Hopelessly in Love with Elin Hilderbrand (and Her Books)

Romance authors are a dime-a-dozen.

The romance genre is one of the most popular genres amongst readers, and for good reason. There aren’t many genres that can claim to have such a range – there’s literally something for everyone. From so-called “clean” stories (basically, a G- or PG-rating) to rated-R erotica, readers can find a steamy love story or a sweet, old-fashioned romance.

The top name in this genre is Elin Hilderbrand, one of the most popular authors of this generation. She’s had more success than many other authors, including those under the romance umbrella.

What sets Hilderbrand apart? Discover five reasons why every reader should add this author to their must-read list.

Elin Hilderbrand – Who Is She and How Did She Get Her Start?

Elin Hilderbrand was born and raised in Pennsylvania, attended Johns Hopkins University, and served as a writing and teaching fellow at the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop.

Her family would spend summers at Cape Cod as a child until she was 16 years old when her father died in a plane crash. After her father died, she had to spend the summers working, but she vowed that as soon as she was able, every summer would be a “real summer.”

In the early 90s, Hilderbrand moved to Nantucket and started writing, first as a classified ads writer and later as a novelist.

Since that time, she’s written and published 25 books, most of which are romances that take place in the town of Nantucket. In 2018, Hilderbrand’s first mystery novel was published.

5 Reasons Why Readers Are Going to Love Listening to Hilderbrand’s Books

Most of Elin Hilderbrand’s books are about 20-something women who are good at what they do finding love and success. At first glance, listening to audiobooks with such a similar outline might seem boring – but they’re not. In fact, Hilderbrand has been hailed as Queen of the summer novel. Go to any beach in American and there’s bound to be at least one person sitting back, enjoying a Hilderbrand book.

Why are her books so popular? Here are five reasons why so many people love this author.

1. These Books Are Perfect for People Who Enjoy a Little Escapism

Not everyone gets to enjoy life in a lovely East coast island of Nantucket, named a National Historic Landmark District in the mid-1960s. Hilderbrand makes the landscape come to life, giving readers the chance to leave wherever they are and enjoy the Nantucket countryside even if for a little while.

Add a little romance into the mix and Hilderbrand’s books are the perfect summer escapist novels.

2. Readers Will Be Hard-Pressed to Find Any Mention of Politics

In this day and age, politics are everywhere. Nearly every conversation – in person or on social media – turns to politics and the state of the nation/world at some point.

People aren’t happy with how things are. A lot of people are angry, disillusioned, and hurt by what they see going on in the world.

Some novels take advantage of this, creating stories that rile the emotions to simply get a reaction out of them or to move them to take action to play their part in making the world a better place.

While such books have their place, sometimes a reader simply needs a book that makes them feel good. A book that’s not very heavy and that can give them a chance to close off the world around them and enjoy the simple things, like the excitement of finding a new romantic partner.

These are the types of books Hilderbrand writes. Politics and the world scene are not the topics being written about, nor are they mentioned much at all.

The goal is to write feel-good books that readers can lose themselves in.

3. Audiobook Listeners Will Feel Like They Get to Enjoy Summer Year-Round

When Hildebrand lost her father, she lost the summertime fun she used to enjoy as a girl. Her goal from that point on was to find a way to create the perfect summer for herself each year.

Listeners of Hildebrand’s books will get to experience just that – the perfect summer. A time when the days are long, the sun shines warm, and the romance is hot!

4. Hilderbrand Has Started to Explore Bigger Issues in Her Recent Works

Elin Hilderbrand isn’t content with simply writing feel-good romance novels. She wants to delve into deeper issues, too. This isn’t to say that she is going to write intriguing political dramas from here on out – simply that she’s expanded her horizons as of late.

In the book Summer of ’69, Hilderbrand has created a story that combines her familiar Nantucket setting with the political upheavals of the 1960s. Her characters experience the Vietnam War and civil rights protests, as well as numerous personal dramas.

5. Elin Hilderbrand’s Stories Are Memorable and Touching

Another great thing about Hilderbrand’s books is that they tend to touch your heart. They offer a feel-good story with plenty of drama. Ultimately, though, that drama leads to self-discovery and a happy ending that will leave readers feeling satisfied, positive and looking forward to their next summertime novel by Elin Hilderbrand.
