Forensic sculptor Eve Duncan knows what it’s like to be haunted by the past. For years after her daughter, Bonnie, was stolen from her, she fought for closure. When her mother, Sandra, asks Eve to find a missing friend named Beth Avery, she wants to help but is sure that Sandra is hiding something. The fact that she adamantly refuses to go to the police reinforces Eve’s suspicions that something is very wrong.
Eve learns that Beth has been locked away in a mental hospital for years, which makes it even harder to understand how she could have disappeared. As Sandra reluctantly reveals small pieces of the truth about Beth’s identity, Eve is shocked to discover that their lives are strangely entwined, and Beth’s disappearance now puts them all in grave danger.
Desperate, Eve enlists a secret weapon to pick up Beth’s trail: rogue profiler Kendra Michaels. With an uncanny ability to detect clues and solve puzzles, Kendra begins to uncover the bizarre circumstances of Beth’s escape from what should have been the safety of her hospital room. Beth is on the run, and as her mind clears—detoxing from the drugs that have held her prisoner—she begins to see the threads of a twisted plot within the powerful Avery family, threatening to destroy her and anyone else who might jeopardize the high-stakes game that is already in play.

"This is the next installment in the Eve Duncan series. She finds out she has a sister. A character from a previous book, Kendra Michaels makes another appearance. This is one of my favorite authors. Not every book is 5 stars but they are all good and at least 4 stars I think. I'm rarely disappointed. I'm comfortable with these characters, their world and idiosyncrasies of them. I started reading because they were romances with a strong mystery / suspense. This story doesn't really have much in the way of romance."
— Anne (4 out of 5 stars)
" Easy to read....an enjoyable read "
— Ruth, 2/12/2014" I thought it was a good book. Different than the regular story line of Eve Duncan books. It even opened a new world to keep the character moving forward and create new areas for mystery. I look forward to more books including Beth Avery. "
— Robin, 2/9/2014" Loved it! This is my favorite series and my favorite characters. I love the addition of Kendra Michaels and Beth Avery. When the search for Bonnie ended, I was afraid that was the end of the road for Eve and Joe. I'll admit, it made me a little sad. I am so thrilled that Iris Johansen not only kept the series going, but also introduced more complex and interesting characters. I am so looking forward to getting to know them better in future novels. Absolutely awesome! "
— Joy, 2/8/2014" Loved it. Can't wait for the next one! "
— Lynn, 1/29/2014" I will never tire of the Eve Duncan series. This one is another page turner! "
— Alicek, 1/27/2014" Wow!! This is quite a story!! It has been a while since I have read anything by Iris Johansen. The action is non-stop in this story; I could hardly put it down until I finished it. I think I will have to go back and read the books that I have missed. "
— Carolyn, 1/21/2014" sleep no more by Iris Johansen was an amazing book it is about Eve Dunchan after discovering the truth about her daughter's death she learns the truth about something else a woman has escaped from the hospital and somehow has a connection to Eve her mother wants Eve to find this woman to protect her the question is why? and what connnection dose this woman have to Eve and her mother? "
— Victoria, 1/21/2014" This book bored me to tears. "
— Jaime, 1/18/2014" A winner again. After Eve found out what happened to her daughter Bonnie she is faced with another problem. It seems she has a half sister that someone wants dead. "
— Cheryl, 1/15/2014" Another great Book in the Eve Duncan series. "
— Mary, 12/31/2013" It was an interesting addition to the Eve Duncan series "
— Anna, 12/25/2013" I was disappointed in the light plot. While I know not to expect great things, Johansen is usually a fast page turner and this one was too deep in the weeds that weren't terribly interesting or building suspense. "
— Pcox, 12/20/2013" Excellent!!!!!! I can't wait for the next book. I love Eve Duncan and Joe Quinn. "
— Katrina, 11/23/2013" It is a Eve Duncan book, what more do I really need to say. I felt like I learned more about Eve and Joe as a couple outside of the impact Bonnie had on them. I wasn't sure how the series was going to continue after Bonnie had been found, but this was a great way for that to happen. "
— Michelle, 9/20/2013" Great Read. One of my favorite authors. "
— Susie, 9/4/2013" 3.5 starts. Pretty good, some things were predictable. Still enjoyed it though "
— Debbie, 9/1/2013" Love the Eve Duncan story lines. Was wondering how the plot would unfold since the Bonnie mystery had been resolved and she was such big component to the other books. I was not disappointed in the least bit. "
— Laura, 7/28/2013" I love the Eve Duncan series, but this one was drawn out too much. "
— Alice, 7/18/2013" An excellent addition to the Eve Duncan series. "
— Dianna, 7/5/2013" I liked this book and have read close your eyes, though I didn't think this was the best Eve Duncan book. "
— Marian, 5/4/2013" I have been reading Ms, Johansen's books for quite a while now. This is the series that is about Eve Duncan and concerns an unknown sister. I am always surprised how quickly I read her rather large tomes. "
— Cathy, 3/9/2013" This wasn't my favorite Iris Johansen book. It never seemed to gain momentum and I found I wasn't on the edge of my seat like I have been with her other books. "
— Lisa, 2/6/2013" I like a little realism with my fiction, not to be found here. "
