The New York Times bestselling author of Firestorm, Iris Johansen, returns with a psychological thriller so terrifying, so relentlessly paced, it won’t leave you time to catch your breath before the next shock comes. A forensic sculptor is locked in a deadly duel with a serial killer determined to destroy her—one life at a time. Eve Duncan’s job is to put a face on the faceless victims of violent crimes. Her work not only comforts their survivors—but helps catch their killers. But there is another, more personal reason that Eve Duncan is driven to do the kind of work she does—a dark nightmare from a past she can never bury. And as she works on the skull of a newly discovered victim, that past is about to return all over again. The victim is a Jane Doe found murdered, her face erased beyond recognition. But whoever killed her wasn’t just trying to hide her identity. The plan was far more horrifying. For as the face forms under Eve’s skilled hands, she is about to get the shock of her life. The victim is someone she knows all too well. Someone who isn’t dead. Yet. Instantly Eve’s peaceful life is shattered. The sanctuary of the lakeside cottage she shares with Atlanta detective Joe Quinn and their adopted daughter Jane has been invaded by a killer who’s sent the grimmest of threats: the face of his next victim. To stop him, Eve must put her own life in the balance and question everything and everyone she trusts. Not even Quinn can go where Eve must go this time. As the trail of faceless bodies leads to a chilling revelation, Eve finds herself trying to catch a master murderer whose grisly work is a testament to a mind warped by perversion and revenge. Now she must pit her skills against his in a showdown where the stakes are life itself—and where the unbearable cost of failure will make Eve’s own murder seem like a mercy killing.

"Really interesting - the idea that someone who looks just like you is killed specifically because the killer thought it was you and then the only way to stay alive is to let your friends and family all think you are still dead until you can trap the killer yourself...awesome.."
— Rebecca (4 out of 5 stars)
" Bit long on meditating thoughts "
— Eppie, 2/20/2014" an Eve Duncan book "
— Chris, 2/19/2014" I have always enjoyed reading Iris Johansen's work. In particular, her Eve Duncan series. However, I found Blind Alley to be lacking the punch that her earlier works exhibited. As an avid reader, I am all for using the imagination a little when the story is captivating, but this teetered on the realm of too far fetched. However, the story was just captivating enough to hold the reader from beginning to end but I fear that the average person might be left as I was: unsatisfied. "
— Allen, 2/16/2014" Very Good; Continuing character: Eve Duncan; a man is killing women, all of whom look like Eve's adopted daughter; ties to an ancient civilization lead to the climax. Abridged version. "
— Joe, 2/10/2014" Trying to read all the Eve Duncan books "
— Gretchen, 2/9/2014" This book is all about Jane. She keeps dreaming of being in a tunnel and having difficulty breathing. There was a psycho serial killer on the lose who thinks she is a 2 thousand year Roman woman and is after her to kill her. The serial killer, Aldo, has been killing women who looks close to Jane, peeling off their faces after killing them. Eve and Quinn are in the background, trying to catch the killer with the help of Mark Trevor, who was on a mission to capture Aldo. At the end, they have to bait him in Italy. Trevor kills Aldo as Aldo tries to kill Jane. "
— Lilian, 1/20/2014" I thoroughly enjoyed this one. "
— Lori, 1/20/2014" The book seemed to focus on the daughter more than Forensics, still a good book. Now reading the one after that Count Down. "
— Melony, 1/3/2014" Johansen is wonderfully creative in this book! Jane and Trevor are my all time favorite literary couple. "
— Crystal, 12/30/2013" I read half of this book, but gave up because it felt very similar to the other books I had read by this author, also the characters seemed quite two dimensional and I did not feel any particular empathy to them. "
— Rosemary, 12/3/2013" perdictable "
— Gloria, 11/29/2013" I got this book with a group of other "recycled" books & loved it. Decided to read more of Iris Johansen's books. Kept me riveted from start to finish!! "
— Dixie, 11/13/2013" Read this book earlier, it is one of her better ones "
— J.W., 5/8/2013" I love Iris Johansen's books; fun, sexy and fast. "
— Andrea, 6/27/2012" So far the books I've read by this author are not very entertaining. They are slow and very predictable. I guess if you have nothing else to read they are better than nothing and I have a few more that were given to me but they will sit on the back burner for now. "
— Cat, 3/7/2012" I almost didn't read beacuse of all the negative commnents I read on Barnes and Noble reviews. I'm glad I read it, I was intrigued by Jane maturing and her accomplishments in this book. I've already started the next in the series. "
— Rebecca, 2/13/2012" This is a suspenseful tale involving a forensic sculptor and other characters. It is part mystery/suspense and part supernatural. It doesn't entirely succeed at either though it is an OK read. "
— Pa, 6/13/2011" am enjoying this series, but wish I had read them in order. "
— Bridget, 5/7/2011" Well, I didn't realize I had already read this book until a few pages in ( I hate getting old!). I couldn't remember how it ended so I read it again. It is a little strange (hints of reincarnation) but it is very interesting and a quick read (especially the 2nd time)! "
— Jann, 1/28/2011" I was really drawn into this book in the beginning. However, I thought the second half really dragged and found my attention lacking. The author built to the climax for most of the book and then the climax was sort of quick and over with. Not my favorite by Iris Johansen. "
— Meg, 1/3/2011" Interesting shift of focus from Eve to Jane. This book kept me reading but somehow it just wasn't *quite* satisfying at the end. "
— Elaine, 12/10/2010" This book was okay... I am kinda getting aggravated that she does not stay on top of the forensic parts for the books...I am taking a break as I got aggravated with the Ciara bit of this book.. Will be back to read the rest later :) "
— Kathy, 11/30/2010" Interesting shift of focus from Eve to Jane. This book kept me reading but somehow it just wasn't *quite* satisfying at the end. "
— Elaine, 11/10/2010" I got this book with a group of other "recycled" books & loved it. Decided to read more of Iris Johansen's books. Kept me riveted from start to finish!! "
— Dixie, 9/15/2010" Even though I'm reading these books out of order, I'm truly sucked into this series. "
— Lilly-Anne, 8/13/2010" Johansen is wonderfully creative in this book! Jane and Trevor are my all time favorite literary couple. "
— Crystal, 8/7/2010" am enjoying this series, but wish I had read them in order. "
— Bridget, 7/20/2010" Just finished today--thought that the teen girl was too whiny, too brash, too rude...I've liked others of Iris Johansen's a lot better than this one. "
— Marilyn, 6/29/2010" Well, I didn't realize I had already read this book until a few pages in ( I hate getting old!). I couldn't remember how it ended so I read it again. It is a little strange (hints of reincarnation) but it is very interesting and a quick read (especially the 2nd time)! <br/> "
