A merciless killer on the hunt...an innocent child in his sights...a woman driven to the edge to stop him... The killer knows Eve Duncan all too well. He knows the pain she feels for her murdered daughter, Bonnie, whose body has never been found. He knows that as one of the nation's top forensic sculptors she'll insist on identifying the nine skeletons unearthed on a bluff near Georgia's Talladega Falls. He knows she won't be able to resist the temptation of believing that one of those skeletons might be her daughter's. But that is only the beginning of the killer's sadistic game. He wants Eve one on one, and he'll use his ace in the hole to make sure she complies. And he won't stop playing until he claims the prize he wants most: Eve's life.

"I'm not reading this series is any specific order so in this book Eve and Joe are not yet together. Eve's profession is as a facial reconstructionist. She is dedicated to finding her daughter who has been killed and the whereabouts of her body is not known; so she is doing reconstructions of children's skulls so that they can 'come home'. The details of finding bodies, reconstructing skulls, keeping safe and finding killers is what keeps Eve going. This story of bodies found and a serial killer caught is very good, especially when you find out who the killer is."

— Bookwurms, 12/4/2013" Do not like these Eve books where the killer of the child stalks and mentally tortures the Mother. "
— Kathy, 11/27/2013" This is another excellent book by Johansen. Eve Duncan is haunted by her daughter's death and her body has never been found. Nine skeletons have been unearthed in Georgia and she things that one of them might be her daughter. This is a suspensful story. You won't be able to put it down. "

— Amanda, 5/14/2012" Quite enjoyed this book, although I did find that the romance parts were a bit on the cheesy side and detracted from the rest of the book. The story keeps you guessing right until the very end, which you really don't see coming. Well written and engrossing, well worth a read "
— Sam, 3/10/2012" Another excellent thriller by a favorite author. Iris Johansen never fails to provide exciting reading with lots of twists and turns and a surprise at the end. "

— Roylison, 1/8/2012" Liked this one much better than the previous one. "
— Kahri, 10/23/2011" Second in the Eve Duncan series. I've discovered a new series I like, but she's written about 20 titles, and the earlier ones are only available in paperback. I've been using my Kindle for these. "
— Beverly, 10/8/2011" Very enjoyable mystery with a few twists right until the end. Second in the Eve Duncan series. Moves her story along a bit but still keeps you hooked wanting to find out more. Well definitely continue reading this series. "
— Alan, 9/15/2011" I realy like Iris Johansen when I am in need of an easy read that will take me into the story. She does a good job of putting you right there and makes sure you feel a connection with the character. I have read about 4-5 of her books and have not been disappointed. "

— Terri, 7/4/2011" I was trapped in Mexico city with no reading materials. Hence this book. It was dark, but interesting. But I don't do dark well. "
— Angie, 5/1/2011" A fun to read mystery. I love the Eve Duncan Series. "
— Samantha, 4/22/2011" Suspense, thriller and mystery in one.

This book continues with Eve Duncan and Joe Quinn as the race against time to save a life of a child, while investigating deaths of many other people and once again Eve is finding herself risking her life as well "
— Candy, 3/17/2011" This book was just... wow. I can't even think of the word to describe it. I would never be able to go through some of the things that happend in this book. "
— Lindsey, 3/4/2011" This book was a good follow-up to The Face of Deception and I read it in a day. The whodunit was awesome.

Two things that bugged me about this book: the overuse of the word "dammit" and the situation between Joe and Eve. I guess I'm a true Logan fan! "
— Jenny, 1/9/2011" Love these books. My only complaint is that it takes too much time in between release dates! "
— Michele, 12/22/2010" This was a really good book, kept me intrigued til the end! "
