First comes darkness, then comes fear
Eve Duncan is back! Blockbuster New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen's latest thriller brings Eve closer to discovering her daughter's killer…and into a web of danger from which she may not be able to escape…
Eve Duncan returns in a thriller that pits her against the most evil mind she has ever encountered: a ruthless killer who taunts her with his every move…and who has a special affinity for blood. When a Georgia senator's daughter is found murdered, and her body drained of blood, Eve Duncan is drawn into the web of Kevin Jelak—a serial murderer who is on Eve's short list of killers who might know something about her missing daughter Bonnie. When a goblet of blood is found in Eve's refrigerator, she knows the taunting is over…and the games have begun. As Eve and Jelak engage in a dance of death, Eve must call upon those she loves and trusts the most…even if it means bringing them into the game as well.

"This is the 9th in Johansen's series about Eve Duncan and her Joe. This was involved a wannabe Vampire and ritual killings....again, Eve is visited by her daughter Bonnie, and Joe finds that he has developed a new psychic talent after touching the hand of Megan in the 8th book, Quicksand."

" I thought I'd heard this was a good author. Ugh. One-dimensional characters, robotic dialog, and lacking suspense or intrigue. Don't bother. "
— Renie, 2/20/2014" loved the book! It's been a while since I've read Iris Johansen. I really enjoyed it. "
— Jennifer, 2/6/2014" This book had a lot more about Joe in it and I really enjoyed the new side of Joe we see in this book. Excellent read! "
— Christina, 2/4/2014" I only gave it 2 stars because I don't like the vampire genre! "
— Angela, 1/30/2014" A few goofy parts, but I thought author did a great job with with the suspense. Is there a book after this featuring Jane and Caleb Seth? "
— Lisa, 1/24/2014" This is a repeat in a series about Eve Duncan, who is a forensic sculptor (recreating the person from a skull for identification). But in this one there was a bit too much of the desire of the killer trying to become a vampire. Eve is still trying to recover the missing body of her 7 yr.old daughter. Unknown is that killer or how it happened, so I will probably read the next book, hoping that it gets back on track, searching for Bonnie. "
— Betty410, 1/20/2014" I am really not sure what to say about this book. I am a huge Iris Johansen fan, especially her Eve Duncan series. However, this book wasn't as good as I was expecting it to be. I have been disappointed in her last few books and that makes me sad. She has another book about Eve Duncan coming in April 2010, I sure hope it's better than this one. "
— Tonya, 1/15/2014" This time it is Joe Quinn who is seeing ghosts. This won involves a deadly vampire wannabe. "
— Sheila, 1/10/2014" Murder, mystery, paranormal, and solid characters. Excellent read. "
— MaryEllen, 11/18/2013" I just finished this book. I quick read but it kept me going. If you like things were it's a little outside the box, it's a good thriller. "
— Nancy, 11/12/2013" Kind of getting redundant. Though I do love her characters. "
— Stacy, 7/14/2013" Honestly I love these books, but lately they seem to be lacking something. "
— Kiley, 6/22/2013" The Eve Duncan series need to end, they are all starting to sound the same. "
— Whikmn, 1/26/2013" A thriller with a little romance and vampires. Entertaining read. "
— Lilly-Anne, 1/14/2013" Worst book I have ever read. No investigations at all, just paranormal, a complete turn from the entire Eve Duncan series. "
— Tory, 10/3/2012" always keeps you involved. I stayed up all night reading this. "
— Janet, 8/19/2012" Blood Game was a very intriguing book. It kept you reading to the very end. "
— Laura, 5/14/2012" Wow! Gory. I don't know how people come up with such gross topics, but it definately drew me in and kept me. Evil characters and some psychics stuff. Overall I really liked it. I marked it down one for the ewwww factor! "
— Michelle, 2/14/2012" Eve Duncan novel -- wonderfully written "
— Gerry, 11/6/2011" pretty predictible, but fun to listen to none the less "
— M.E., 11/6/2011" The storyline is very interesting and invite readers to experience the thriller with its plot and characters. I love Caleb the vampire hunter/slayer with his weird kind of way. "
— Syafrizal, 10/27/2011" Another great book by Iris Johansen. Cudos to her for fleshing this story out even more to include Joe learning how to deal with his new "powers". I feel like we're getting closer to the truth as to what happened with Bonnie. "
— Trish, 9/24/2011" Way too much for me.... "
— Wendy, 9/1/2011" I'd like to know why so many killers claim to have killed Eve's daughter. Is this normal? Is Eve really that famous? I still enjoy Ms. Johansen's writing style but this constant struggle to find closure for Bonnie's killer is a taking a tad long. "
— ♆, 7/23/2011" I was torn between 2 and 3 stars. It did keep me reading, but good grief, *another* crazed killer who has to have Eve Duncan? I think reading too many of her books too close together is not a good thing. "
— Elaine, 5/27/2011" A few goofy parts, but I thought author did a great job with with the suspense. Is there a book after this featuring Jane and Caleb Seth? "
— Lisa, 5/18/2011" The story was interesting but the mystical, vampire-like character was trite. Perhaps more history surrounding the symbolism would have been more compelling. "
— Mary, 5/8/2011" loved the book! It's been a while since I've read Iris Johansen. I really enjoyed it.<br/> "
— Jennifer, 5/3/2011" had to put this down. Same old story, different day "
— La, 4/26/2011" Kind of getting redundant. Though I do love her characters. "
— Stacy, 4/21/2011" Always like the eve Duncan series "
— Lisa, 4/11/2011" i love the eve duncan series it is one of my favorite! this was just as good as the others "
— Mandy, 2/26/2011" I've enjoyed the Eve Duncan books a lot -- Even when you can figure out most of what's going on, she's usually good about throwing you a curve ball. "
— Lori, 2/20/2011" I was torn between 2 and 3 stars. It did keep me reading, but good grief, *another* crazed killer who has to have Eve Duncan? I think reading too many of her books too close together is not a good thing. "
— Elaine, 1/23/2011" Another in the Eve Duncan series...I've apparently missed one in the series...I'll need to go back, but I wish she would find her daughter! "
— Bud, 1/23/2011" So far - this is OK. I do not care for the person doing the reading on the cd and that affects how I feel about the story. Plus it is "very" abridged or seems so. No character development. "
— Sheryl, 1/12/2011" I finished this book on 1/10/2011. Thought it a good, suspenseful read. "
— Jim, 1/8/2011" Classic Iris. I like the bit of supernatural that has been thrown in. "
— Tara, 12/15/2010" Great author. Kept me interested to the very end. "
— Terry, 11/22/2010" couldnt get into this one - too unbelievable - weak story line "
— Michaelbatte, 8/26/2010" I only gave it 2 stars because I don't like the vampire genre! "
