Lisa Jackson is a New York Times best-selling author of suspenseful, erotic thrillers. In Hot Blooded, she transports listeners into the heart of New Orleans, where a deluded murderer is on a holy quest of vengeance. Dr. Samantha Leeds hosts her own late-night radio talk-show on WSLJ. One day she receives a menacing phone call at her home, while miles away, a prostitute is strangled to death. Seemingly unrelated, nobody connects the two events until more murders occur under similar circumstances. Dr. Sam soon realizes that someone from her past is stalking towards her, armed with a rosary and a deep-seeded hatred. Sam must rely on her wits, and a friendship with her mysterious new neighbor, Ty Wheeler, if she wants to escape the killer's wrath. Filled with sensational suspense, Hot Blooded is a sizzling departure from the usual romance novel. Alyssa Bresnahan's steamy narration takes listeners deep into the murky Bayou swamps and the terrifying secrets within.

"I ended up really liking this book. Last night I thought I would not be able to finish it because I was having trouble with a lot of the internal dialogue Sam had continuously throughout the book. It started feeling redundant and I closed the book. I went back to it today because I had planned to go to the end because I really wanted to know who was killing all those people. Lisa Jackson set up a really good old-school mystery. I miss these sometimes when I am in Urban Fantasy land for months on end. But, I was looking for books that were set in New Orleans so I was drawn to this book because it came up in my search. Part of my disappointment was that it was more about the people and less about the city. I really wanted it to be the other way around. But, I was happily surprised. She had some really good red herrings in there and it got to the point where I kept changing my mind on who I thought was the killer. Good read!"

“Steadily building in atmosphere and suspense, Hot Blooded is a nail-biter. Ms. Jackson keeps the pot stirring, and the reader guessing.”
— RT Book Reviews (4½ stars, Top Pick!)" What an exciting story! With this being the first of the New Orleans series it brings the characters of detectives Rick Bentz and his partner Montoya, Doctor Sam and Ty Wheeler. There is a Killer in New Orleans. Who starts calling Doctor Sam at her radio station. Detective Bentz believes Doctor Sam is in danger from this sick killer. Fast moving, exciting that Ms. Jackson weaves strong threads of tension into a pulse-pounding story. "
— Deborah, 7/16/2017" This was my second attempt to read Hot Blooded and I quit at 100 or so pages in. Too much emphasis on the radio station and the "nutjob caller." It was overkill 1/3 of the way in and I wasn't about to drag myself through the whole book just to be bored to tears. "
— Lindsay, 2/11/2014" A pick-up for a quick read for the exercise bike...Part of Jackson's "New Orleans" series...this mystery, set in New Orleans, involves a serial killer, "Father James," with religious overtones...I'm concerned with the typical literati condemnation of religion that has emerged in the last 20 years...as the book resolved itself none of the anti-religion elements emerged so fears were unfounded...I enjoyed the introduction the detectives Rick Bentz and Reuben Montoya and will look forward to continuing the series over time "
— Mark, 2/8/2014" If I could give this book 3.5 I would. Overall, I enjoyed it. I'm a sucker for a mystery. But it felt incredibly long to me. There were a few surprises along the way, but some were predictable. The ending also seemed a little hurried. I remember thinking, after all of that, it just kindof ended abruptly. I did like how you got to know every character. I also love that the setting is New Orleans. The next book in this series is Cold- Blooded, and I've already downloaded it to my kindle. Good Job Lisa Jackson! "
— Christine, 1/11/2014" Book - enjoyed parts but overall it was shallow. "
— Dawn, 1/8/2014" This book is a good read. The protagonist does all the right things, like telling the police and her co-workers about the incidents and getting them involved. The police a co-workers react appropriately and take actions to protect the protagonist. The scenes are well scripted and realistic. The bad guy is well hidden tell late in the story. "
— Ralph, 1/4/2014" The book was extremely slow paced until the last few chapters and then things escalated extremely quickly leaving me eager to start the next book in the series. I wished the suspense started earlier on in the book. "
— Amanda, 1/3/2014" 2nd time around for this one t hough I didn't realize it until I started reading it.....kept me enthralled twice though - I will continue with the series... "
— Belynda, 12/16/2013" The first of eight. Very good lots of murder and there's even romance.. A twist ending on who the murder is. "
— Amy, 11/12/2013" Really enjoyed this one. Didn't want to put it down too often. Kept me guessing. Rick Bentz is a detective I could really start liking. "
— Chris, 11/1/2013" Reasonbly well paced novel. An ok thriller. I didnt realize it would be so sexual but i never read any of lisa jacksons works before. I will read more as these arenive for a "break". "
— Sarah, 10/22/2013" I really enjoyed this book and the characters. "
— Nikki, 10/1/2013" Great book. Romance, mystery, suspense...all set in the city of New Orleans. "
— Kim, 8/29/2013" I found this book to be a bit "flat." The murder mystery story-line was interesting, but the characters were not overly developed. The "love story" was dull. I blame Karin Slaughter! I will try another novel by this author. "
— B.j., 4/4/2013" Really enjoying this, half way through the first night. "
— John, 11/18/2012" I suppose it was OK, but I'm no longer a fan of this genre... Quit at about 26% on Kindle. "
— Al, 10/30/2012" An earlier work of hers, not as grabbing as Absolute Fear, but still really good. I'm loving the murder mysteries :) "
— Isaura, 9/24/2012" I am only halfway through the book so far. It's typical Lisa Jackson and it's dragging a bit. I am not emotionally invested in any of the characters. In fact, I think the main character is pretty stupid right now. "
— Amanda, 9/23/2012" reminding self to not read any more of her books. This one was just trite and rote no engaging characters and a plot that my 7 year old could have guessed. "
— Michelle, 7/28/2012" I got hooked on Lisa Jackson during my 2010 beach week. After spending the week with trashy romance, I was in the mood for detective-light. Found this on the someone-else-left-it-behind bookshelf at the beach house, and I found a new favorite crime-fiction author. "
— Andrea, 6/21/2012" A radio shrink is getting calls and stalked by someone trying to blame her for a death 9 years ago when she was at a different radio station in a different city. "
— Joyce, 5/10/2012" NOLA series is amazing! Jackson has a way of sucking you in and keeping you entertained and hanging on until the end. "
— Jennykins, 2/19/2012" One radio shrink, one murderer who calls in...at work and her unlisted home numbers. Who is he and why is he involving and stalking her? Sit on the edge of your seat to find out! "
— Sandy, 1/5/2012" Night radio host is being stalked. Great thriller. "
— Vicky, 11/24/2011" Pretty predictable. I figured out who the murderer was about halfway through. "
— MaryJane, 7/3/2011" Sorry, I am not impressed by the heroine, it is said that she is a DR of psychology but she does not think and act like one, instead she is more a shallow and man-thirst woman. Dissapointed :( "
— Eky, 5/18/2011" There was a lot of conicidences playing in this book

but then I suppose asthe culprit found a person who was suceptible to being namipulated that is why- surprised they didn't cotton on earlier

And as always there was the sex scenes

"
— Afsana, 4/17/2011" Thought I switch it up a bit a started reading the Lisa Jackson series. This is the first of romance/suspense and mystery. I was captured by chapter one and couldn't wait to get to the end. Now getting ready to read Cold Blooded. "
— Linda, 4/13/2011" Ok, a little slow in parts. Mystery was good, but figured it out half way in but I did like the twist at the end. "
— Patty, 4/11/2011" I really enjoyed this book. But i found it was predictable. It was like the other book i just finished by her, so i never really felt i had started a new one. Excellant though and a great "on the edge of my seat" kinda book. Love Dick Bentz's character. "
— Carmen, 8/4/2010" Pretty typical. Story line I feel a little far fetched. Good beach read. "
— Brei, 2/27/2010" Started 2/20/10
Finished 3/4/10

I think I'm reading too many of these, because I was able to narrow down the suspects. I still liked the book and will read the next one...Cold Blooded...But not before I return to Eve Dallas. "
— Melissa, 2/21/2010" This was an audiobook that I listen to. It was pretty good. The narration was well done. I would recommend it to anyone that likes who-done-it thillers.
"
— Leslie, 2/10/2010" The book started out very good, with the suspense and of course the steamy romance. Ending was kind of cheesy. Could have been better like Absolute Fear.
The crimes and romances are different per each book, but the characters carry over and new ones are introduced. Still like reading them. "
