Publisher Description

Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett has two cases to contend with, both of them lethal, in the electrifying new novel from the #1 New York Times-bestselling author. Wyoming's new governor isn't sure what to make of Joe Pickett, but he has a job for him that is extremely delicate. A prominent female British executive never came home from the high-end guest ranch she was visiting, and the British Embassy is pressing hard. Pickett knows that happens sometimes-these ranches are stocked with handsome young cowboys, and "ranch romances" aren't uncommon. But no sign of her months after she vanished? That suggests something else. At the same time, his friend Nate Romanowski has asked Joe to intervene with the feds on behalf of falconers who can no longer hunt with eagles even though their permits are in order. Who is blocking the falconers and why? The more he investigates both cases, the more someone wants him to go away. Is it because of the missing woman or because he's become Nate's advocate? Or are they somehow connected? The answers, when they come, will be even worse than he'd imagined.

Narrator David Chandler does an outstanding job of bringing this suspenseful thriller to life with his exceptional vocal performance. From the minute I started listening, I was hooked. The characters are all unique and well-developed, making it easy to become invested in their stories. Joe Pickett is a no-nonsense game warden who finds himself involved in a case much more complicated than he ever imagined. His tenacity and moral convictions draw us into his quest for answers while we are equally drawn to his warm family dynamics. This fast-paced mystery did not disappoint! 5 stars on all counts!"

" Joe Pickett is back in another thrilling adventure! I was engrossed from the very first chapter, and could not stop listening until the very end. The story is gripping and fast-paced, full of suspenseful moments that I enjoyed quite thoroughly. Every character feels real and authentically crafted which adds further tension as the story unfolds. The setting in rural Wyoming adds an additional layer of realism to the story as we are immersed in Big Sky Country with its majestic mountains and wide valleys. The narration is good and I have no complaints there. Looking forward to the next book in the series now! "

" This is my first C.J. Box novel and I loved it. I have tried to think of something negative to say about this book and its narration, but I have not come up with anything--particularly the narration. David Chandler did an outstanding job with this story and I will be searching for other novels that he has performed. Eagerly awaiting the next in the series. One word of caution: read this series in order; I wish I had known to do that before ordering this particular book. "
