Twenty-seven-year-old Kristi Bentz is lucky to be alive. Not many people her age have nearly died twice at the hands of a serial killer, and lived to tell about it. Her dad, New Orleans detective Rick Bentz, wants Kristi to stay in New Orleans and out of danger. But if anything, Kristi’s experiences have made her even more fascinated by the mind of the serial killer. She hasn’t given up her dream of being a true-crime writer - of exploring the darkest recesses of evil - and now she just may get her chance. Four girls have disappeared at All Saints College in less than two years. All four were “lost souls” - troubled, vulnerable girls with no one to care about them, no one to come looking if they disappeared. The police think they’re runaways, but Kristi senses there’s something that links them, something terrifying. She decides to enroll, following their same steps. All Saints has changed a lot since Kristi was an undergraduate. The stodgy Catholic college has lured edgy new professors to its campus and gained a reputation for envelope-pushing, with classes like the very popular “The Influence of Vampirism in Modern Culture and Literature,” and elaborately staged morality plays that feel more like the titillating entertainment of some underground club than religious spectacles. And there are whispers of a dark cult on campus whose members wear vials of blood around their necks and meet in secret chambers - rituals to which only the elite have access. To find the truth, Kristi will need to become part of the cult’s inner circle, to learn their secrets, and play the part of lost soul without losing herself in the process. It’s a dangerous path, and Kristi is skating on its knife-thin edge. The deeper she goes, the more Kristi begins to wonder if she is the hunter or the prey. She’s certain she’s being watched and followed - studied, even - as yet another girl disappears, and another. And when the bodies finally begin to surface - in ways that bring fear to the campus and terror to the hearts of even hardened cops like Detective Bentz and his partner Reuben Montoya - Kristi realizes with chilling clarity that she has underestimated her foe. She is playing a game with a killer more cunning and bloodthirsty than anyone can imagine, one who has personally selected her for membership in a cult of death from which there will be no escape.

"I read this book before realizing it is part of a series of books. Despite that, the book did keep me intrigued and I wish there was a "History of Vampirism" class being held locally, I would love to take it. Even tho, the book is part of a series, it was easy to follow. " — Rhonda (5 out of 5 stars)

" This story line had very little Bentz/Montoya. I have read this series out of sequence and cant recall exactly how things have happened in the series of books. It was nice to delve into Kristi's character more but I did have an idea who the Male "murderer" was in this book. Overall alright but the stories seems to be VERY similar from book to book. "
" I really enjoy reading this book , I like to figure out who is pretending to be vampire killer lol. "
" It was about 100 pages too long. "
" another situation where I wish there was a .5 option. The vampire cult was kinda dumb, but sadly, could be true. Not the first time we've heard of people carrying their blood in a vial around their necks. "
" To confusing. I don't like vampire books, so take my rating with that in mind. Plot to far fetched. "
" good book, like the characters and writing style. "
" I had never read any of this author's works before and this book is in a series of which I knew nothing about. It is a vampire book essentially and was a little simplistic and even juvenile. There were many unnecessary mentions of 'hard ons' which I could have easily lived without, as it seemed that the author was trying to appeal to a large audience, but it failed for me. I probably won't read anything else by Lisa Jackson. It was okay, but certainly not a page turner "
" I was impatient for something to happen. It was pretty good. "
" Interesting twists related to the "bad guys". I am not too enthusiastic about vampire themed novels, yet the university-related environment was enjoyable. "
" I did not like this book. I actually flipped through pages and never missed anything. If you like overly descriptive books with tons of detail, then you will love this one. "
" Did not realize this was a series when I read the book. I plan on going back and reading the first four books since I enjoyed this one so much! "
" Lost Souls is a great book by Lisa Jackson. My first book i read of hers. I loved the suspense it kept my flying though the pages! I SO LOVE THE VAMPIRE ANGLE! I loved this book! "
" A Good Read and a good mystery "
" Absolutely FABULOUS!!! I cannot wait for the next Rick/Kristi Bentz novel! "
" Ckup seru+mmbuat pnasaran smp halaman trakhir.Sayangnya epilognya mnggantung+mlah bkin mkin pnsarn.Apakh sosok Jennifer Bentz it mrupakn pnampakn, ato dia mmg bnr2 msh hidup? "
" Don't try to figure out who is responsible for the serial killings. It's impossible until the last few chapters. Just enjoy the ride. :) "
" What a good one - it wore me out! "
" Pretty good addition to the series. There are some pretty gruesome scenes in this one, so beware. "
" Very good story, lots of suspense, a little romance (not too much though!) Ending leaves it open for the next book, Malice. I think that is the one. Really enjoyed it since the mystery centered around vampires! "
" I really liked this book. Just finished it and will read the others in the series. The only thing that bothered me was the ending. It was almost identical to the ending in Absolute Fear only a different character. Ohter than that I thought it was one of the best in the series. "
" I enjoyed this book so much I went and bought another one of hers to try. "
" Junk. I almost felt my brain shrinking as I read this. That said, it's a page turner. "
" It was a good book...was not one of the can't put down books I like to read though. I would read another book by her. "
" cant wait to read Malice... "
" This book drove me crazy with the excess of details. The descriptive passages were a poor attempt to distract the reader away from a poor plot and weak characters. Couldn't make myself finish. "
" Awesome.. Can't wait for the next one.... "
" I really enjoyed this book. I will recommend this book to everyone i know. "
" I had a hard time with the idea of the heroine being targeted by a serial killer more than once. "
" This was a good book, I liked Kristi's character. This book had too much info though, I caught myself skipping over the details throughout! "
" This isn't a bad book but the ending was a little uncreative, I also think it would have flowed just fine without the gratuitous sex and language that was used (at times) for no reason at all. Again, it wasn't bad, just not as good as I would have expected going in. "
" another great read by lisa "
" Exciting and a little bit scary which I love..I thoroughly enjoyed this book. "
" Slow start but it picked up steam. Overall I liked it. "
" I am telling you, this series kicks so much butt! The twists, which I was pretty close to solving correctly, the action, the relationship between Kristi and Jay, all of this made one hell of a great read. "
" good murder book- interesting premise of students at a college getting involved with "vampyrism" and nive historical references. Creepy "
" First one read by Jackson, standard fare. Good entertainment. "
" Meh. Could've been good, but was just so-so. She did a good job of keeping you guessing whodunnit but the protagonist in this series (didn't realize it was one when I started it) is a bit, well, silly. In a teen slasher movie, she'd be the first idiot to wander off alone in the dark woods. "
" Spannend verhaal met een mythisch kantje aan, én in een geweldige omgeving. Leuk ook om personages uit de voorgaande delen vanuit een ander perspectief te zien! "
" Didnt know it was part of a series but thats fine. This book s worth going out of order! "
