Technology may be different in 2060 New York, yet the city is still a place of many cultures and great divides. And as ever, some murders receive more attention than others - especially those in which the victim is a prominent businessman, found in his Park Avenue apartment, tied to the bed - and strangled - with cords of black velvet. It doesn’t surprise Lieutenant Eve Dallas that Thomas Anders’s scandalous death is a source of titillation and speculation for the public - and humiliation for his family. While everyone else in the city is talking about it, those close to Anders aren’t so anxious to do so. Fortunately, because Dallas’s billionaire husband, Roarke, happens to own the prime real estate where Anders’s sporting-goods firm was headquartered, she has some help with access. Before long, she’s knocking on doors - or barging through them - to look for the answers she needs. But the facts don’t add up. Physical evidence suggests that the victim didn’t struggle. The security breach in the highly fortified apartment indicates that the killer was someone close to Anders, but everyone’s alibi checks out, from the wife who was off in the tropics to the loving nephew who stands to inherit millions. Was this a crime of passion - or a carefully planned execution? It’s up to Dallas to solve a sensational case where all involved guard secrets from one another - and strangers may be connected in unexpected, and deadly, ways. “Nora Roberts is cool.” - Stephen King Download and start listening now!

" Reading an In Death book is like lying in bed on a rainy afternoon, cuddled up with a cat or two, munching on chocolates... and reading a good book. I don't do mysteries as a rule, but because I love the background and characters so much, these mysteries are fun. As usual, I adore Eve and Roarke, and all their friends. More Mavis next time! Can't wait to read the next one -- I'm saving it for a while. ;) "

" This was the 1st one I've read in this series. The futuristic setting wasn't too far beyond the realm of possibility. I figured out the plot for the most part. It dragged just a little in the middle - I was ready to nail the killer already. The love scenes were too much of the "bodice-ripping" variety for me. The characters are well developed and my favorite part of the book was the dialogue between them. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Gina Mora | 2/6/2014

" Here is why this book got 5 stars: I knew who the murderer was, I knew the basic plot-who isn't familiar with "Strangers on a Train"?-and I still couldn't figure out HOW she did it! It kept me reading until late at night. Loved it!! "

" Audio Book - J.D. Robb is NOT one of my favorite authors. "

" A fairly solid, straight-forward entry in the series. There is a big twist toward the end, and I'm rather surprised I didn't predict it given the hints were obvious, but sometimes they sneak up on you. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Melissa | 1/14/2014

" I listened to this one because I was able to get it dirt cheap on ebay :) But I'm glad I did. I thought this detective story was more complete than many others I've read. "

" I am hooked on the J D Robb books and this is another enjoyable and interesting book. The stories for Lt. Eve Dallas in New York in 2050+ continue to be ineteresting mystery stories and entertaining reads. "

" Tis book was much better as an audio. But I can see how it didn't seem as good reading it. Have it performed is more entertaining. But it was a lot of talking with an anti climactic ending. Not one of my favorites. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Tara | 12/29/2010

" Even though there is only one murder in this book it was longer than any of the other books I've listen to so far, but it was also really interesting and seemed to go really fast. And I have been waiting for this particular plot. [spoilers removed] Interesting and engaing. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Jennifer | 12/20/2010

" Another wonderful installment. This one lacked some of the tension with Eve and Roarke that made the last one so great, but I love how they resolve issues in this one. "
