Publisher Description

Welcome to the wide world of paranormal pastimes, where striking out might strike you dead. Editors Charlaine Harris and Toni L. P. Kelner are your announcers for this all-new story collection of the most peculiar plays ever made.…

Sports fans live and die by their teams’ successes and failures—though not literally. But these fourteen authors have written spirited—in more ways than one—new tales of killer competitions that would make even the most die-hard players ask to be benched.

In #1 New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris’s “The Blue Hereafter,” Manfred Bernardo learns about softball from a certain blond barmaid in Louisiana.

Life-and-death stakes make the competition get serious in New York Times bestseller William Kent Krueger’s “Hide and Seek.”

New York Times bestselling author Mercedes Lackey’s “False Knight on the Road” features a high-stakes drag race on a foggy mountain road between a clever young bootlegger and a mysterious stranger.

In New York Times bestselling author Laura Lippman’s “Ice,” a young girl learns the true story behind a bit of neighborhood folklore.

New York Times bestseller Seanan McGuire presents “Jammed,” in which a chimera loose during the Roller Derby makes it anyone’s guess as to who will still be skating by the time the buzzer sounds.

In #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson’s “Dreamer,” a game of cops and robbers is a new challenge when the players are able to switch bodies at will.

And New York Times bestselling author Scott Sigler follows ghost stomper Hunter Hunterson as he investigates a haunted, never-ending baseball game in “The Case of the Haunted Safeway.”

These and eight more supernatural sporting stories are guaranteed to have you rooting for the home team…or else.…

“It isn’t everyday that an audio collection of stories is this consistently strong and its narrators so unfailingly compelling. Listeners will find tales of games and competitions of all kinds—from hide-and-seek to roller derby—played by the most fantastic of paranormal characters. Todd Haberkorn and Kate Rudd bring each of these zany, occasionally spine-tingling, and wildly creative tales to life. The range of characters is enormous, and the settings varied. Both narrators handle each tale with aplomb, creating personalities that are unique, building suspense, and reveling in each detailed description. Their energy and humor keep the plot quick and engrossing, and it’s clear throughout that they’re enjoying themselves as much as listeners surely will.”

About the Authors

Charlaine Harris is a New York Times bestselling author who has written four series and two stand-alone novels, in addition to numerous short stories, novellas, and graphic novels cowritten with Christopher Golden. Her Sookie Stackhouse books have appeared in twenty-five different languages and on many bestseller lists and are the basis of the HBO series True Blood

MacLeod Andrews is an actor, voice actor, and Earphones Award–winning audiobook narrator who earned the prestigious Audie Award for best narration in 2018. He has starred in a number of independent short and feature films and is a member of the Rising Phoenix Repertory Company in New York City.

Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875) was born in Odense, Denmark, the son of a poor shoemaker and a washerwoman. As a young teenager, he became quite well known in Odense as a reciter of drama and as a singer. When he was fourteen, he set off for the capital, Copenhagen, determined to become a national success on the stage. He failed miserably, but made some influential friends in the capital who got him into school to remedy his lack of proper education. In 1829 his first book was published. After that, books came out at regular intervals. His stories began to be translated into English as early as 1846. Since then, numerous editions, and more recently Hollywood songs and Disney cartoons, have helped to ensure the continuing popularity of the stories in the English-speaking world.

About the Narrators

Todd Haberkorn is an actor and winner of seven AudioFile Earphones Awards. He has created unique voices for a variety of characters for cartoons and video games. When he isn’t working on a production of some kind, he travels the globe talking about those productions.

Kate Rudd, actress and Earphones Award–winning narrator, has appeared in several independent films and shorts, as well as in multiple episodes of the television show Perks. As an audiobook narrator she has been a finalist for the prestigious Audie Award for best narration.
