Charlaine Harris’ Anthony Award–winning Sookie Stackhouse novels have become a fixture on the New York Times bestseller list and have inspired the acclaimed HBO series True Blood

Except for Sookie Stackhouse, folks in Bon Temps, Louisiana, knew little about vamps—and nothing about weres. Until now. The weres and shifters have finally revealed their existence to the ordinary world. And the backlash may have claimed the life of someone Sookie knew well. But her determination to find out who was responsible for the murder is put aside in the face of a far greater danger. A race of unhuman beings—older, more powerful, and more secretive than vampires or werewolves—is preparing for war. And Sookie will find herself an all-too-human pawn in their battle …

" Plenty of action in this one... Not quite satisfied with some of the story line... Guess I'll have to read the next one for answers ; ) "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Emily Easter | 1/23/2014

" I love all the Sookie books but I especially love the ones with lots of ERIC!!! (which this one has FYI) "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Sallyaj | 1/22/2014

" This series really fell off the rails when it was adapted for a cable series True Blood. The TV version has all of the blood and sex but none of the charm and humor that made the first three or four books so delightful. Sadly, the later books became more like the TV series. Barely readable now. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Marie | 1/19/2014

" I see what people mean when they talk about inconsistencies. It's like Harris forgets some details from previous work. A bit annoying. You would think the editors would spot those. But on the whole a good story to enjoy. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Lindsey Jones | 1/16/2014

" Oh this one is just so ridiculous. I can't even begin to rate it. Fairy portals? What is going on here Sookie? And why does Eric keep saying "lover"!?!?! Just hate it. I can't even read the passages when he talks. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Eric | 12/17/2013

" I think I enjoyed this one the best of the series so far. It came together well and much of my complaints of the previous books aren't here. Lots happens and more importantly lots is revealed both personal to Sookie and about "supes" worlds. "

" This series is definitely different than the HBO series True Blood, but that's ok with me. I still love both. I think she'll end up with Bill eventually although you can't have a good love story without conflict. I like how Sookie is bringing the more human side out in Eric. Great creative series. "

" I didn't enjoy this Sookie Stackhouse mystery nearly as much as I did previous installments. I really liked it but it just didn't stick with me as much as the others that came before it. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Tonya | 11/30/2008

" Best one in the series! Easy read, Eric comes center stage for sure. A Bill fan no longer am I. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Miranda | 10/14/2008

" Snooze fest. The avalanche of characters and the painful descriptions of the wedding just came so ridiculous, and I had to skip many pages. I am not the biggest fan of Quinn -- so that could be my reluctance to this book. I just wish Sookie would go to Eric and stop fighting her feelings. "
