Publisher Description

His Victims. . .

A woman is frantic as she awakens in a dark, closed space. From above her comes the muffled sound of cruel laughter, followed by the hard splatter of dirt. Pure terror takes over as she realizes she's being buried alive--and her last breath is a scream that no one but a sadistic killer will hear. . .

Will Take His Secrets. . .

To journalist Nikki Gillette, this disturbing story is a ticket out of small-town Savannah and on to the big time. She's already given the killer a nickname--The Grave Robber--and she's spending every minute dogging tough cop Pierce Reed's investigation, trailing him through Savannah's deep thickets and crumbling cemeteries. . .even though she's starting to wonder about the secrets he's keeping. . .

To The Grave

Another body is found. And another. Each gruesome discovery unnerves Nikki a little more. . .there's something familiar about it, something she should know. Now, as a serial killer pulls her ever deeper into his sick game, she has no idea how close she's getting to the truth--or how deadly it will be. . .

"This was the follow-up to The Night Before. In this book, Savannah detectives Pierce Reed and Sylvie Morrisette are up against a killer who kills people by burying them alive and placing them in the casket on top of a deceased person. The local reporter, Nikki Gillette, has named him the "Grave Robber". When the second victim is found, everyone fears they have a serial killer on their hands. The police work to find the link between the victims and find the killer. A good book but not as good as The Night Before. When the killer calls himself The Survivor, you can figure out who he is."

Quotes

  • “Jackson skillfully crafts a horrific thriller about an elusive serial killer…This psychological thriller has a beautifully conceived plot full of unexpected twists and provocative misleads, as well as sophisticated character development. Not even the sadistic murderer is one-dimensionally evil, and the protagonists display delicious depths.”

" Een boek waar ik maar slecht in kon komen, ik had ook maar weinig tijd, dus las korte stukjes misschien dat dat meespeelde. Toen ik tijd had en meer achter elkaar kon lezen, beviel het boek je beter en moest ik het uit lezen. Boek heeft wel een zeer luguber thema: levend begraven worden, je ergste nachtmerrie, ik kreeg er kippenvel van.... "

" Good, easy read. Plot was a little convenient, characters seemed to have foggy memories. Ending was OK. Not sure why the title was 'the morning after'..... "

" This was the first time I've read this author. It was a quick read, a bit disturbing though as far as the buried alive part goes. I probably would try another book of hers if I found one (as I found this one). "

" This is the second book in Lisa Jackson's 'Savannah Series' and there are three characters, detectives Reed and Morrisette and "plucky" crime reporter Nikki Gillete who are in both books in the series. The crimes are serial and horrific, involving people being buried alive and being perpetrated by a sexual sadist who calls himself The Survivor. I found the book a quick read, something to keep the fingers scrolling while on the treadmill. And even though I was interested enough to see the crime solved, I was annoyed, actually very annoyed by Jackson's portrayal of the heroine and the female cop and the obligatory romance. But what can I say, very cheap to download onto my ipod and a quick read, if formulaic. The classic recipes do have their appeal I suppose! "
