When Dr. Rennie Newton is summoned to jury duty, she brings to the courtroom the same level of competence that she displays in the operating room. Her commitment to precision compels her to deliver a not guilty verdict in the murder case against notorious contract killer Ricky Lozada.
It will be the most regrettable decision in her life...because Rennie's trial with Lozada doesn't end with his acquittal.
Her carefully structured life begins to crumble when a rival colleague is brutally slain. Lozada's menacing shadow looms over the murder, but it's Rennie the investigators focus on as a prime suspect. The privacy she has cultivated and protected at all costs is violated by the police as well as Lozada. And when he begins an earnest courtship, it becomes terrifyingly clear that he is obsessed with having her.
Wick Threadgill is a detective on indefinite leave from the Fort Worth PD, who has his own, personal agenda for the contract killer. Temperamental, bitter, and driven by loyalty and love, Wick is determined to destroy Lozada.
In order to defeat Lozada -- and save their lives -- Rennie and Wick form an uneasy alliance. Mistrustful of each other, they know only one thing with absolute certainty, when this killer strikes, they won't see it coming.
The Crush will take you on a tortuous path through a twisted sociopath's eerie obsession, a haunted man fragile hopes for redemption, and a woman's heart as she struggles to face the greatest fear -- to open herself to love.

"whooaaa, one of the best favorite books. The story is about love triangle Dr. Newton, Wick and Lozada. But hold on, Lozada is a criminal and stalker to Dr. Newton. Wick is a good policeman who pursues Lozada. Lozada love Dr. Newton because of she give a vote that help Lozada free from accusation in the court, maybe as love at the first sight. I love this book because Wick is different from the other character men in Sandra Brown. On the contrary, the cool character is found in the woman, Dr.Newton. The relationship between Dr.Newton and Wick who have different perception make you not boring to read this book. Besides the suspense plot will make you hold out until the last page."

— Booklist" This was a pretty good thriller of a tale. I'm a big fan of Brown's work, and while I enjoyed all 400+ pages of this one, I still think "The Alibi" was her best work. But, these characters were well drawn, the plot was full of twists & turns, so if you like agood edge-of-your-seat thriller, this would be a book for you! "

— Kathy, 2/7/2014" Th book was pretty interesting but not as good as other Sandra Brown books. The premise was good and the story line was good also but could have been expounded on. I am tired of the cat and mouse games that are played between men and women in some books. Get to the point and move on !!!!! "

— Connie, 12/2/2013" A fast read once I got interested in the plot. This is more of a vacation read, and if there was a 2 1/2 star rating, I would have given that instead of 3 stars. This book reminded me of a Harlequin-type romance...entertaining but not real in any sense of the word. "
— Merri, 10/25/2013" I was in suspense throughout this entire book. I would read it at night alone in my room and would find myself constantly looking over my shoulder to see if there was someone or something out of place.
