Carl Herbold enjoys being bad. After all, he is terrifyingly good at it. Stimulated by violence, he and his brother, Cecil, had easily graduated from juvenile delinquents to full-blown killers. And Carl, now serving a life sentence in an Arkansas penitentiary, carries out a daring escape with a fellow inmate and is on his way back to where he began--Blewer County, Texas. Ann Corbett had been widowed right before her son was born. Beset by debt and personal tragedy, she faces the toughest challenge of her life--holding on to the ranch that is her son's birthright--unaware that she is at the center of Carl Herbold's vengeful plan. Ezzy Hardge is a retired lawman who is haunted by the one crime he sacrificed everything to solve, but could not. And Jack Sawyer, a seemingly easygoing cowboy and drifter whose past is shrouded in mystery, understands Herbold's twisted mind and his hate-filled lust for vengeance. Risking exposure of his own troubled past, Jack arrives at Anna Corbett's ranch asking for work, but in reality hoping to protect the innocent deaf woman and her young son from Herbold's rage. Carl Herbold's prison break draws them inexorably toward a day of reckoning: Ezzy, an over-the-hill peace officer seeking redemption; Jack, a man stalked by dark secrets he can no longer outrun; and Anna, a beautiful woman locked in silence and self-imposed isolation. All must grapple with their own demons before their tumultuous confrontation with a diabolical killer. Realistic, sharp-edged, and complex, Sandra Brown's latest work is so suspenseful it zings like a high-tension wire. Unspeakable, with its haunting images and breathtaking pace, is the best Sandra Brown yet.

" Loved this book. I have never read Sandra brown before, but she's on my list now. This was a good suspenseful mystery with a really beautiful love story thrown into the mix. Great characters. "
— Val, 2/17/2014" Sanda Brown never lets me down, she tells a great story and I really enjoyed this novel. "
— Dorsey, 2/14/2014" Another solid one by Brown. I have never read a book where one of the main characters was deaf/mute and I was very interested to see how it would be done. I was also wondering how her main female character having been previously married and having a son was going to work out. Normally that tends to be the focus of the book... how will she over come her love for her husband etc. but this was different. It was perfect. She pulled everything together very well, intersting story, some great twists, some very scary characters that really make you want to be aware of the evil that is out there and avoid it! "
— Tasha, 2/12/2014" eh. Not the best book I've ever read. Didn't like the ending, but I'm picky about endings so maybe it's me and not the book. "
— Sara, 2/8/2014" Good but too much corse words, seriously. "
— Midge, 2/4/2014" Sandra Brown knows how to tell a story and grab my attention at the same time. The hero is flawed and the overall mood is gloomy but I loved it. This story is intense and hard to put down. "
— Maddie, 2/2/2014" This was my least favorite book of Brown's I've read so far. I didn't enjoy her characters as much as in other novels. However, it had one compelling ending that made up for the rest of the book. "
— Kay, 1/13/2014" I enjoyed this suspenseful murder mystery, but found myself skipping over some of the gore and sex. I am not necessarily opposed to sex and violence, but it seemed to detract from my enjoyment of the story instead of enhancing it. "
— Laura, 11/16/2013" Very disappointing ending - you're left with a "Uh...what?" kind of feeling. "
— Kris, 11/11/2013" After reading The Lacuna, I wanted something fairly mindless. This fit the bill: some mystery and sexual tension. "
— Glena, 11/10/2013" This was a good read. It started with a mysterious hero and right up until the end he remained questionable. The heroine was deaf and I thought it was treated correctly in relation to the story. The little boy was well written and believable. I enjoyed it. "
— Laura, 11/7/2013" Memorable, interesting characters and story. "
— Mmonroe, 10/21/2013" Cinta dpt menyatukan 2 jiwa yg sgt berbeda tanpa komunikasi verbal n hny melalui ikatan hati yg sgt erat. "
— Friska, 9/24/2013" I liked this a bunch and a grunch! I am hard of hearing and I especially liked the way she portrayed the deaf woman. very well done!! "
— So, 9/22/2013" Loved the h, the H not so much. It was a good read, but there was so very much going on... "
— BamaGal, 11/9/2012" Sick and twisted, but great suspense "
— Jennifer, 10/5/2012" one of my favorite novel... "
— Naiya, 8/7/2012" This was a great storyline with some in-depth characters. Good suspense and build up of the plotline. "
— Trisha, 7/10/2012" This one turned out to be a "can't put down" book for me.I like trying to guess the ending and being completely wrong! "
— Bnschmid, 7/8/2012" This book moved fairly quickly and had a good deal of suspense. This was not her best book, but it was a good read. "
— Melissa, 6/19/2012" I didn't find this book as good as her other ones, but rather interesting with the main character. "
— Nikita, 5/30/2012" Vivid discriptions of violence to make you understand the horror of it. Sandra did an outstanding job researching the world of deafness. She's one of my favorite Authors! "
— Mical, 1/14/2012" Very violent but such a good book! "
— Edie, 10/28/2011" The main female lead in this book is deaf. I wondered how Ms. Brown would handle dialog and so forth with a deaf character, but it was very well done and interesting. "
— Nicole, 8/3/2011" Easy reading for a book about a psychopath - I read it in two days. I'd recommend it for a holiday read (which is when I read it), laying on the beach or by the pool, or taking your mind off a long flight. "
— Judith, 5/17/2011" I am currently reading this book. So far, it is great as usual. I love all of Sandra Brown books and so far I have never been disappointed. I recommend this book to everyone. "
— Moon, 3/21/2011" Excellent mystery; good love story. Just a delightful, easy read! I really enjoy this author, especially after an intense read. "
— Sally, 3/14/2011" This was my least favorite book of Brown's I've read so far. I didn't enjoy her characters as much as in other novels. However, it had one compelling ending that made up for the rest of the book. "
— Kay, 2/7/2011" Audio book performed by Gary Cole. R rated but glad I listened to it. Good love story and crime. "
— Janice, 12/30/2010" Oh how I LOVED this book! You can tell Ms. Brown put a lot into writing this. She kept the budding relationship on an even keel, while the male character proved to be a hero of the highest degree. "
— Robin, 10/31/2010" A little too much evil for my liking "
— Lisa, 9/21/2010" Can be a bit too violent and upsetting in parts but it kept your interest so you had to finish to find out what happens. "
— Robin, 9/1/2010" pre Edgar Sawtel but that is what this book reminds me of while listening
I finished listening to the book
far too violent and a non believable ending
ironic that the same thing is occuring with the escapees from AZ "
— Irene, 8/6/2010" A tad on the violent side, but a great story with many layers. "
