Passion, wealth, and murder come together in this unputdownable thriller from the New York Times bestselling “queen of romantic suspense” (Booklist) Linda Howard.
Roanna Davenport grew up a wealthy orphan on her grandmother’s magnificent estate, Davencourt. There, she wanted for nothing—except to be loved by her cousin Webb. When he marries another, Roanna is devastated but life at Davencourt takes an even darker turn when Webb’s new wife is found bludgeoned to death.
After the shocking murder, Webb leaves for Arizona, abandoning the privileged life that he had once believed was all he wanted. Years later, a grown-up Roanna walks back into his life to bring him home. He’s shocked that the mischievous sprite he had known in childhood has disappeared. Gone, too, is her passionate fire; in its place is ice that melted at his touch but Webb can’t help but be drawn back to Davencourt, to Roanna, and to the killer that once destroyed his life and waits only for the chance to finish the job.
With Linda Howard’s signature “fast-paced, intricately detailed romantic suspense” (Fresh Fiction), Shades of Twilight will keep you riveted until the last page.

"What can I say about this one? I listened to 11 discs in two days time, and never wanted to put it town. A very intense, sweeping story, sometimes sad, disturbing, joyous, frustrating, and I could probably go on from there. The sex scenes were very well done. Although intense and sometimes prolific throughout the story, it was done in a way that made it even more erotic than a lot of erotic novels ever could, due to the emotions and plot of the story. I often wished towards the beginning of the novel that Rowanna would show more backbone and stand up to her cousin. But the book starts when she is just 7 and then as you read, you can see the gradual progression of her character and some of it starts to make sense. There is also a mystery in this one with a great surprise ending. I never saw the resolution coming. A definite 5 stars, although it was so intense, I don't ever think I could read it again."

" I had no idea who'd killed Jessie until the moment the killer confessed. That's a first for me with Howard's books since she usually gives away the name of the killer early on...it's also unusual because I'm pretty good with figuring out who the villain is. I had a fleeting thought that it might be the person it turned out to be, but it was so fleeting that I discarded the idea before it really got going. Excellent story telling from Howard once again. "
— Me, 1/11/2014" Linda does it again. Only this one is sexually graphic (even more than others). Holds you spellbound. Had my friend read it and she could not put it down. Read it in 2 days. "
— Marty, 1/11/2014" Every time I read this, I sob like a baby. For me this book is sheer perfection and had me worshipping at the altar of Linda Howard. "
— Jenn, 12/28/2013" I was a little worried I would be let down by this particular title since the reviews were mixed and there was a lot of chat about the appropiateness of the relationship between the protagonists. However, it was a welcome change to have the characters without the usual Linda Howard trademark of bold and blunt heroine. I'm not saying I love wimps or shyness but the way the character of the heroine was built and how the hero drew her out tenderly, fiercely was touching. I loved it again. And their relationship didnt bother me at all. Second cousins. Far enough removed for a book. "
— Neha, 12/22/2013" An amazing book. A beautiful love story, a suspenseful mystery, intriguing family drama. I was completely moved. "
— Deb, 12/14/2013" This is a good read as well. I have read a lot of her work and this is one of my favorites. I have reread it several times. I like the way she is able to work through life issues in a real manner. : ) "
— Kb, 11/26/2013" I usually enjoy Howard's suspense plots but I didn't like this book very much I'm afraid. I just couldn't warm up to the main characters. "
— Ana, 10/26/2013" A very absorbing story invoking many emotions with a surprising who-done-it plot but midway action slowed with too many people ruminating and I didn't completely sympathize with heroines extremes. Orphaned Roanna feels like a misfit in her wealthy family and cousin Webb does his best to help her. "
— Dawn, 10/5/2013" Too much going on and pretty close to some squick factors. But, the characters and chemistry save it from being a train-wreck. "
— Elise, 1/6/2013" Good book if you can get past the incestual relationships. "
— Jennifer, 3/7/2012" Really enjoyed this novel! I love the story Linda Howard weaves for the reader! Very intense and passionate. "
— Cheryl, 12/25/2011" I enjoyed Shades of Twilight and thought Natalie Ross' narration quite good. It's just not one I'll eagerly listen to again. "
— Lea's, 10/31/2011" Once I got past the whole 2nd cousin thing, I liked Webb and Roanna. A lot of people called ehr a doormat, but can anyone blame her after the way she was treated? I called the ending pretty early one though. "
— Kari, 4/28/2011" Is anyone else freaked out that they're related? I know they're just second cousins, but it's still a little weird... "
— Brooke, 4/26/2011" This is one of my favorite Linda Howard. Warning to potential readers: the subject matter (in particular in the beginning of the book) is controversial and a bit difficult to read. This rest of the book is a page-turner and heartwarming romance. "
— Win, 1/26/2011" Once I got past the whole 2nd cousin thing, I liked Webb and Roanna. A lot of people called ehr a doormat, but can anyone blame her after the way she was treated? I called the ending pretty early one though. "
— Kari, 1/7/2011" Probably my favorite book from Ms. Howard. After this, she starts to concentrate more on the mystery/intrigue rather than the romance. Not a welcome trend. "
— Wendy, 12/31/2010" Story grabs you with a mix of romance and mystery. Enjoyed the characters. "
— Bridget, 12/20/2010" Too much going on and pretty close to some squick factors. But, the characters and chemistry save it from being a train-wreck. "
