“The devil killed my body. I cannot fight, I cannot find. I cannot free her. You must. You are the one. We speak to the dead.”
Immediately after hearing these words, uttered to her by an old Romanian woman bleeding to death in the street, detective Eve Dallas begins to notice that her latest case has come with a number of interesting side-effects: visions of the deceased, instant familiarity with rooms she’s never seen before, and fluency in Russian. Likewise, there appears to be a force inside of her, a spirit other than her own, that won’t let her rest until she’s found Beata, the old woman’s great-granddaughter, whose disappearance two months prior remains a mystery. Desperate to be free of her new “gifts”, Eve pursues the facts until she discovers a link between Beata’s disappearance and the disappearance of eight other young women, all of whom attended the same dance classes, none of whom were ever heard from again.

"Picking up just where the last book left off, we both get the conclusion to the previous case with her pending interview of the hospitalized partner, the surprising Saturday afternoon BBQ, and healthy dose of the supernatural as we haven't seen since Haunted in Death. It's always amusing how Eve deals with situations that are out of her normal realm. As always, Roarke is right there with her, perhaps even more than usual as he realized the full extent of Eve's unusual experience and helps pull her through it in one piece."

" Great Novella. A little stretch for Eve & Roarke but still nicely written & executed . "
— Imjstgr8, 2/20/2014" One of my favorite of the In Death Series. It's not often that we seen Eve this vulnerable... Loved it! "
— Joana, 2/19/2014" Now this was a lot better than her last book! It had so much of what was missing. It was original, it had more of the supporting characters, it had the barbecue, and while I understand that the plot may have been a bit weird, I enjoyed seeing Eve struggle with something so far out of her nature. "
— Macjest, 12/28/2013" What a great story. I only wish this had been a full novel so that we could get more! No one does a touch or super natural better than Nora Roberts and that touch mixed in with J D Robb and Eve and Roarke is wonderful. Can't wait for more! "
— Carrie, 10/21/2013" Short, sweet and one of my favorites!! "
— Tina, 10/8/2013" I like the short stories but a lot of the details are deleted. I like the regular stories where the story is slowly developed and each point is explained. This is still good if not brief storyline. "
— Lynn, 9/9/2013" I enjoyed this and was happy to get the cookout that we didn't get in Indulgence ID. "
— Vic, 8/31/2013" As with all the "Death" series books, I really liked this one. I loved the fact that it had a paranormal flavor. I wish it was just a little longer. "
— Anna, 8/23/2013" Probably not the best introduction to the series, but quick paced. "
— Lyra, 8/7/2013" Better than the last. Quite a game changer for Dallas' black and white world. "
— Lisa, 3/18/2013" It was so odd to read a supernatural-esque IN DEATH books but it was entirely enjoyable! "
— Keira, 11/13/2012" from anthology - The Other Side. Good quick read. "
— Ruth, 8/24/2012" This was just weird for me. The woo-woo stuff brought into Eve's world is a bit hard for me to swallow. These books are focused more on logic, facts and some awesome technology, but the woo woo stuff? Weird. Still, this was a nice read with a predictable ending. "
— ♆, 7/3/2012" a shorter JD Robb and a little different twist. Very good. "
— Gayle, 6/24/2012" Great little novella! I love it when Eve and Roarke get mixed up with the paranormal!! "
— Renee, 12/11/2011" What a fun read! I enjoyed the fact that this story came straight from its predecessor. I thoroughly enjoy the stories that show Eve's humanity and that reveal growth. "
— Peggy, 10/14/2011" Comes out in Nov 2010 "
— Kerry, 8/11/2011" This is actually an interesting theme compared to the short story about vampires, which was boring and uninteresting. I wished this was one of those long novels instead of merely being an anthology. "
— Jane, 7/11/2011"
anonther " In Dearth " seriers

Followtbg Eve Dallas, her husband , and Peabody

takes place in 2060..... "
— Gene, 5/23/2011" I enjoyed it, and had a hard time putting it down. However, compared to some of the previous books it lacked a bit of suspense and the dialog is getting a bit harsh. It's hard to read with all the clipped conversation. Still love Roarke and Eve though! "
— Dawn, 5/23/2011" These are solid formulaic futuristic police procedural romances. I love them, have read them all. Eve Dallas is a terrific character. "
— Juno, 5/13/2011" I thought this was one of the best ones she has written in a long time. I enjoy the series, but thought this was one of her better books. "
— Holly, 5/12/2011" I was beginning to think her plots are getting a bit stale, but I'm liking how this one changes it up. Still just getting into the meat of the story, but it's good so far. "
— Kristen, 5/12/2011" Not quite as satisfying as her usual, but well-executed 'formula' writing. "
— Becky, 5/11/2011" Gives lots of insight into what kind of LT Dallas is. I don't really have anything else to say. So many corrupt cops. "
— Cassandra, 5/4/2011" Still enjoy this series. "
— Deb, 5/4/2011" One of the best in the In Death series. "
— cassie, 5/3/2011" I've read all thirty two books in this series and they are all exceptional. Gritty and edgy yet filled with wonderful characters and complex relationships. I highly recommend them all but you need to read them in order or you'll be confused! "
— Barbara, 5/3/2011" I love the characters in this series, unfortunately this one was nothing special. "
— Katie, 5/3/2011" I am hooked by this ongoing series - especally the evolution of the characters - all even the so called minor ones "
