Publisher Description

Strange things are happening in Maya's tiny Vancouver Island town. First, her friend Serena, the captain of the swim team, drowns mysteriously in the middle of a calm lake. Then, one year later, mountain lions are spotted rather frequently around Maya's home—and her reactions to them are somewhat . . . unexpected. Her best friend, Daniel, has also been experiencing unexplainable premonitions about certain people and situations.

It doesn't help that the new bad boy in town, Rafe, has a dangerous secret, and he's interested in one special part of Maya's anatomy—her paw-print birthmark.

"Read this because it was one of the Ontario Library Association's 2012's White Pine Award nominees for best youth fiction for the year. (I am a high school librarian). I was very pleasantly surprised. Maya is a strong female protagonist. She has a strong sense of identity and does need to deny herself to fit in. She is happy with who she is. I appreciated the humour, especially when dealing with her dad (and family dynamics). I would highly recommend it. I look forward to reading the next one in the trilogy. I will even try some of Armstrong's other books, though I've had no desire to do so in the past."

" I DID NOT LIKE THIS BOOK. I found it to be poorly written, and similar to her darkest powers trilogy. I eagerly picked this book up and read it, assuming it would be as good as the darkest powers trilogy, but found myself to be sadly mistaken. Imagine the exact same plot as the darkest powers trilogy but replaced with different characters and different abilities. After reading this book I did not even bother reading the next one the writing was so terrible. This is what I would call a MUST NOT READ! "

" It was interesting enough for me to keep reading it. The story was unusual and eventful. Although i don't dig Rafe and Maya's relationship, I prefer Daniel. The story have so many mysteries to solve and in the end, only some of it was answered. "

Armstrong, but, even if this new story is very interesting, very nice the location and the little "wired" town, I was'nt able to love any of the characters of this new series...I did'nt like Maya very much...not much as I liked the mountain lions... " Strictly for entertainment. Gave it a four because it wasn't in depth and 'five star books are those that can weave both and bring us face to face with the characters.' I think the title's weird because it has nothing to do with a 'gathering.' Maybe later in the series but not in the first book. "

About Kelley Armstrong

Kelley Armstrong is the author of young adult fiction, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and mysteries in stand-alone novels and over fifteen series. Frostbitten, The Gathering, and No Humans Involved were New York Times bestsellers. She believes experience is the best teacher, though she has been told this shouldn’t apply to writing her murder scenes. To craft her books, she has studied aikido, archery, and fencing. She sucks at all of them. She has also crawled through very shallow cave systems and climbed half a mountain before chickening out.

About Jennifer Ikeda

Jennifer Ikeda has been narrating audiobooks since 2002. Among her readings are When My Name Was Keoko by Linda Sue Park; Just Listen by Sarah Dessen; and After the Wreck, I Picked Myself Up, Spread My Wings, and Flew Away by Joyce Carol Oates. She has won six AudioFile Earphones Awards.
