Struggling to care for her sick father and raise her teenage children alone, a divorced mother spends the weekend at a North Carolina inn, only to meet a former surgeon running from his past.
Adrienne Willis is 45 and has been divorced for three years, abandoned by her husband for a younger woman. The trials of raising her teenage children and caring for her sick father have worn her down, but at the request of a friend and in hopes of respite, she's gone to the coastal village of Rodanthe in North Carolina to tend the local inn for the weekend. With a major storm brewing, the time away doesn't look promising...until a guest named Paul Flanner arrives.
At 54, Paul is a successful surgeon, but in the previous six months his life has unraveled into something he doesn't recognize. Estranged from his son and recently divorced, he's sold his practice and his home and has journeyed to this isolated town in hopes of closing a painful chapter in his past. Adrienne and Paul come together as the storm brews over Rodanthe, but what begins between them over the weekend will resonate throughout the rest of their lives, intertwining past and future, love and loss.

"Probably the best of the Spark's long list of stories. I found the most interesting aspect of this book was how he deals with Time. He tells the story with flashbacks and keeps filling in detail picking and choosing from different times. A very good read. "

“Ladies and gentlemen, start your tear ducts…Sparks doesn’t stray too far from his bittersweet, lost-love formula…but you’ll cry in spite [of] yourself.”
— People“A page-turner.”
— Connecticut Post“Two lonely people come together and find the kind of deep, committed love that has been absent from their lives for too long…Nicholas Sparks has done it again.”
— Forth Worth Star-Telegram“In the best tradition of Robert James Waller…Nicholas Sparks ventures into a genre ruled, almost exclusively, by women. Nights in Rodanthe will be popular with lovers of tasteful romantic fiction.”
— Martha’s Vineyard Times“The intense yet short-lived romance in Nicholas Sparks’ novel, Nights in Rodanthe…offers a story that is…passionate and memorable…Sparks’ smooth, sensitive writing and simple story line that doesn’t end with every wish coming true make this a novel that can hold its own.”
— Associated Press“Sparks…is back at it with his latest mix of love story and pathos. He doesn’t disappoint…Sparks has a very solid fan base, and they will be clamoring for his latest.”
— Booklist“JoBeth Williams’ tender narration captures the introspection and sadness of Adrienne’s tale, as well as its passion. Her detached portrayal of Paul and Adrienne’s lives before they find each other conveys all the flatness of their existence, despite the many events filling their days…Soft piano interludes elegantly separate chapters and polish the finished work.”
— AudioFile" Good Book. I would recommend it to others. Not my favorite Sparks but definitely a good read. "
— Angie B, 10/14/2018" I didn't really want to like this book. I've always thought Nicholas Sparks is so commercial. I really liked this book. Recommend it to anyone who is a romantic a heart. "
— Sonny, 2/10/2014" Could not put this book down just loved it so much so intense "
— Lisa, 2/9/2014" This one was ok, but not one of my favorites. Similar to Message in a Bottle, this is not the typical "happily ever after" that we've come to expect from the typical love story novel. However, it is entertaining and an easy book to read. Not my first choice, but not my last either. "
— Darren, 2/3/2014" painful, overpowering books. "

— Mckenna, 1/14/2014" Typical Nicholas Sparks. If you like his other books, you will like this one. If you are looking for depth, substance, or something not completely predictable, you will want to pass. Read it for book club. It is a quick and easy read, there is that. "
