Many in Clanton want a swift trial and the death penalty, but Brigance digs in and discovers that there is more to the story than meets the eye. Jake’s fierce commitment to saving Drew from the gas chamber puts his career, his financial security, and the safety of his family on the line.

"The opening of this audio book grabs the listener and does not let go. It is Grisham at his finest. The story is about domestic violence and all its ramifications. In many ways the story is a heartbreaker. The plot is interesting and the characters are colorful. There is enough racial tension and legal drama to keep the reader on edge. The story follows the real-world disagreements about domestic violence and what happens when the children victims fight back. I think the book could have been a bit shorter. If you enjoy a legal thriller"
