"So this mystery is nearly as old as I am, copyrighted 1985. I'd almost never have known because it's not really dated at all. It's a really good mystery and in the end the crazed rapist murderer was totally not who I thought it was! yikes. It's a fast read too, a few hours tops."

" I finished the book because I wanted to know who did it, but I can't recommend it. I'll stick with her Sookie Stackhouse books. "
— Michele, 2/15/2014" Very average, "
— Lyn, 2/13/2014" My least favorite book in the Harris catalog, but I chalk it up to being on of her earlier books. I tend to enjoy her series where characters can grow over a number of books. "
— Elizabeth, 12/17/2013" another good read, strong female character. "
— Colleen, 12/9/2013" A good premise that didn't really rise above average for me. I felt like I was more told how to feel about characters and how they behaved rather than the emotions arising from good characterisation and world building but the story zipped along and it passed a couple of hours pleasantly enough. "
— Claire, 12/1/2013" I had a really hard time with the focus of the book being rape. I had to put it down a few times, though I did finish and was fine with the ending. "
— Heidi, 11/13/2013" not bad for a quickie read. Not as good as the Vamp series, but ok "
— Livia, 10/29/2013" Not to Charlaine Harris's usual standard. But still enjoyable. Let's face it I would read anything she has written. She is so good I would be interested in reading her shopping list! "
— Sharlane, 10/14/2013" One of her early novels. Takes a while to get into the story and it's a little rough around the edges. Doesn't flow as smoothly as her later novels. Didn't care for the character so much--not very interesting. "
— Kristina, 9/12/2013" I really enjoy the Sookie Stackhouse and Shakespeare series by the same author. Didn't really care for this stand alone book though. "
— Angie, 8/6/2013" Much more violent than I expected, I ended up reading the beginning and the end. "
— Rebekkila, 8/4/2013" Reading this novel is almost exactly the same as watching a dyed-in-the-wool Lifetime Movie. But it's a brisk, mindless beach read, in a good kind of way. "
— Darcy, 7/27/2013" I didn't get into this book until after the rape. Some interesting thoughts about how women handle it and how people react to it. Not one of her best books. An earlier book, I think. "
— Chris, 7/26/2013" I love most of Ms. Harris' books. Unfortunately, this book wasn't up to her usual standards. I didn't really like the main character and so I wasn't vested in what happened to her...:( "
— Carla, 4/19/2013" I figured it out way before the end. "
— Deena, 6/5/2012" As books about rape go, not bad! "
— Anne, 5/27/2012" Violence in a small southern town. The victims come together, drawing strength and encouragement from each other as they decide to fight back. "
— Heather, 1/10/2012" Good story, but stirred up leftover depressions from my own time of "rage"! "
— rebecca, 11/19/2011" Wow. This has turned into one of those audios that make you take an extra trip around the block just to keep listening! Emotional and gripping. "
— Sally, 11/10/2011" Good book for those who like crime/mystery novels. Was written in the 80s, but didn't seem that old or outdated. "
— Erin, 11/1/2011" Rape is generally dealt with in a serious, depressing manner, but Harris writes a light mystery novel that is engaging while exploring the serious consequences of rape on different individuals. It's a very insightful book! "
— Yvette, 10/9/2011" since this is about a serial rapist it wasn't my favorite. "
— Micah, 7/4/2011" Entertaining and suspenseful. It kept my attention throughout the entire story. I think the author also did a good job of capturing the thoughts and feelings of the victim. It made you identify with them. "
— Chelsey, 6/21/2011" Was an amazing sophomore book by a very talented writer that keeps you guessing until the end. THe final revelation is not seen or fortold. "
— Chad, 5/11/2011" A quick read with some intrigue. However I didn't feel any real bond to the characters and I felt the dialogue was a bit unnatural. "
— Brynn, 4/16/2011" I listed this under HORROR for the obvious reason that being raped is just that.... a horror. "
— Tamela, 4/11/2011" This is one of her first books, and it was pretty good. I thought I had the killer all figured out, but I didn't! I really like that main character, too. "
— Micaela, 3/22/2011" I figured it out way before the end. "
— Deena, 3/21/2011" I really enjoy the Sookie Stackhouse and Shakespeare series by the same author. Didn't really care for this stand alone book though. "
— Angie, 3/20/2011" I love a good book about vengence, this was not one. "
— Nicole, 3/20/2011" This book was pretty intense, just based on the subject matter. It was a good little mystery though. It kind of reminded me of the Aurora books. I thought it was a great read and it was just under 200 pages. "
— Laura, 3/1/2011" The book was very slow in the beginning. As soon as something actually started to happen, it was the end. "
— Nicole, 2/7/2011" A good story. One of Harris' better works. Not a book for the faint-hearted. "
— Fran, 2/6/2011" This is a standalone novel by a wonderful author. It's a mystery, dealing with rape in the South and how women can keep going afterwords. Harris does an excellent job of addressing how Southern ideals effect perspective towards the victim in such a situation. "
