A classic masterwork of spiritual tension and realization from Paulo Coelho, this powerful story of one man’s battle with self-doubt and fear is now available in a beautiful new package from HarperOne. An essential volume alongside Coelho’s other bestselling and influential books, such as The Alchemist, The Pilgrimage, Brida, and The Winner Stands Alone, the searing and unforgettable narrative in The Valkyries asks the questions most central to all literature—and all of humanity’s quest for understanding. Why is it that we destroy the things we love most? And how can we learn to let go of the past and believe in the future?

"I couldn't put this one down!! Started reading it late Monday afternoon and had to force myself to put it down to sleep. Finished it Tuesday morning. A truly compelling story. Loved the simplicity of writing and short chapters. Will definitely read more of Coelho's works!"

“Compelling.”
— Booklist“A book that delights, fascinates, frightens, and enlightens all at once…A delightful read that leaves you pondering eternal truths long after you put it down.”
— NAPRA Review“Coelho’s gripping tale of his adventures…reads like a suspense novel.”
— San Mateo Times" Not as good as The Alchemist. Certainly interesting at many points, but overly pedantic in style and almost febrile with the desire to show an understanding of a higher power. "
— Ami, 2/19/2014" Not Coelho's best book, but a good one nonetheless. As with most of his, I'd re-read it again, and probably pick up on a lot more I did this round. "
— Brian, 2/8/2014" This mysterious but apparently real world of magic that Coelho attempts to share was (surprisingly) uninspiring to me. The book definitely has its profound and memorable moments, emerging mostly from his wife, Chris' experience accompanying Coelho in his desert quest to speak to his guardian angel. I would recommend forgoing this one for some of his truly shimmering gems. "
— Sujata, 1/28/2014" In search of enlightenment and the "answer" while travelling in the American southwest. "
— Tutu, 1/5/2014" I remember enjoying this book. An easy-read, magic-filled inspirational novel. "
— Navaneet, 12/30/2013" "Remember that you are a manipulator of the absolute, and do only those things in your life that are worth the effort." (pp119) "
— Kelly, 12/29/2013" I just finished reading this book and frankly - if I take into consideration the title of the book and who wrote it - I was expecting something much much better . This book was disapoitment for me . And he claims this is based n a true story ? It's hard to believe .I belive in angels but I don't believe they will show up just to someone just because that person really want to see them. You just pick a place and angel comes to greet you ? I don't think so. I gave him two stars for good idea , that's it . I wonder if author was still on drugs when he wrote this book .Too much of fantasy in here . "
— Sanja, 12/23/2013" Menos interessante. Empate com Monte Cinco. "
— Lily, 11/24/2013" nice. :) a journey to find your angel. :) "
— Nikka, 11/19/2013" The women in this book sound pretty badass, but I was expecting another Alchemist. "
— Timothy, 9/27/2013" My favorite so far of Paulo Coelho's. I find I relate alot to both characters. I pick it up whenever I need a bit of inspiration, or to get up off my ass for something . . . "
— Caitlin, 9/9/2013" The least favorite of the Coelho books I've read to date, seems a bit wishy washy for me, with no real plot. I certainly do appreciate the author's honesty in describing his personal experiences and there were a few gems of wisdom sprinkled through the pages. "
— Polina, 7/20/2013" Enjoyed the book, but my least favorite. "
— Sylvia, 3/25/2013" IT was a very inspirational book. =). I love it. It is great for anyone looking for some guidance and peace. "
— Leandra, 3/21/2013" Pretty good, but definitely my second to lease favorite of Coelho's. "
— Laurie, 9/4/2012" Another personal narrative by Coelho; an intriguing look at angels "
— Emily, 7/9/2012" I can always learn something from Paulo Coelho and I read this book in one evening... If you're just starting with his books, I'd recommend to save this one for later on, but still worth it. HUMILITY and ANGELS... "
— Cole, 1/22/2012" Simply full of insight and I use it for work "
— Katharina, 6/3/2011" Not as good as The Alchemist but it was still rather enjoyable. It reminded me a bit of The Celestine Prophecy in the style of writing and the overall New Age vibe of the book. "
— Darrin, 6/2/2011" great and wonderful story. has a lot in common with my own life. good for people looking for another point of view, i suppose. however, it's like with most of all, some like it some don't ... "
— Andreas, 5/22/2011" This was a difficult book to read and even more difficult to rate and review because of what i believe in and don't believe in. So i don't think I'll even try. "
— Kayzee, 2/28/2011" I just remember reading it and then the first chapter was not that really interesting and then I gave up and returned it to the library and not really giving a damn what the book is really about. "
— Joyzi, 1/4/2011" Not on par with his other superior writing. "
— Ron, 10/29/2010" Like all of Paulo Cohelo's books, they are spirtual and thought provoking. His books are short, but not light reads. "
— Julie, 10/7/2010" Nothing like female angels on motorcycles delivering a spiritual message. "
— Kelly, 9/2/2010" Well written Coelho but disappointing... "
— Jan, 4/23/2010" my popular book.by reading the book i felt the writer understood a big part of my soul.i really really love it. "
— maryam, 12/10/2009" As the author says in the Epilogue, this is a very different book from his others. Better to read some of his other books (The Alchemist, Pilgrimage) first. "
— Michael, 8/5/2009" Another book about a personal journey. Nicely written. Short, but with a lot of messages. I really liked it, good job. "
