"It's about a random girl, with striking ambitions. The beauty of it lies in the truths that philosophy of magic revealed to her, and you'll accompany Brida through her journey to it. Though somehow it's ending is as sad as it had started. It's not a story, but a flashlight"

“Emond’s low-key reading easily represents the searching, confused protagonist. For audio collections where previous Coelho novels are popular.”
— Booklist“Emond’s performance enhances Coelho’s detailed descriptions of the rituals of white witchcraft, its dangers, its mythologies, and its connections to other religions. Emond’s forceful reading elevates the often-pedestrian storytelling to something more profound.”
— AudioFile" fiction + philosphy.. did not work for me "
— Akansha, 2/9/2014" Parts of it were interesting and thought provoking, but overall it was just okay. "
— Christie, 2/8/2014" Very easy book to read, and a beautiful story. "
— Vladimir, 1/29/2014" Interesting story of a women's journey to discover her chosen path of magic and witchcraft. This novel reminded me a bit of "The Celestine Prophecy" that I had read several years ago. This too was a fiction piece that also acts as a sort of a spiritual guidebook where you are learning about the paths while the protagonist is heading down them. It felt a little preachy, for lack of a better word, in some parts, and myself being a Pagan, wondered why all the witches were so obsessed and kept referring back to Jesus and Christianity in their teachings. After reading this novel as well as The Alchemist, I am still deciding whether or not I like Coelho's as a writer. I like his spirit and passion, but his writing doesn't seem to move me like I initially thought it would...perhaps it's getting lost in the translation. "
— Denise, 1/24/2014" excellent like all Paulo's books "
— Lina, 1/21/2014" I don't remember where I read the review recommending this book. I wish I never read it. 10 good reading days of the year wasted. "
— Stephanie, 1/18/2014" The quotes, sayings, beliefs were actually the opposite of what I believe in. So it didn't gave me that interesting feeling every scenes. I didn't had the idea that it was a love story. So I think that's the reason why I got bored with it, but it's really a good book. :) It gives inspiration to those who are in search for their soul mates. ;p Brida is a courageous woman who's willing to take all the risks just to find her soul mate. "
— Maggie, 1/16/2014" I truly liked this book. Paulo Coelho takes you places that you just can't imagine up yourself. The thing I liked was that I couldn't predict the next step. I almost felt like I was reading Lois Lowry - but the adult version. "
— Mandi, 1/16/2014" The book is a little bit draggy and it took me about a month and a half to finish it. I find it draggy because it always talks about the order of the moon. Maybe I got bored because of those thoughts. But I find it interesting because it is a book about finding yourself and finding your soulmate. "
— Jo, 12/30/2013" a journey back to miracles. coelho never fails to bring your faith back in your dreams. a must read for those who want to experience magic in true sense! "
— Garima, 12/26/2013" Not his best title, but very suitable demonstration of feminine pre-christian believes. Importance of duality. "

— Keymie, 11/19/2013" I'm a fan of Paulo Coelho, but recently have not been impressed by some of his later writings. This one in particular, I felt a bit annoyed with and it seemed to be the work of a less experienced writer. "
— Sal, 11/3/2013" Paulo Coelho's books are very repetitive in structure. the stories are mostly centered around black magic/witches/wizards "
— Nirupamabinay, 10/30/2013" to be fair I didn't finish reading this but by the time chapter 3 came along with all the wizard and witch material it lost my interest. "
— Trent, 10/21/2013" i didn't finish this because it was BORING!!! "
— Mark, 10/16/2013" What really got me in Brida was the concept of Soul-mate, very intriguing and beautifully described. Everything else was just okay. "

— Jennifer, 8/13/2012" I really didn't like this book too much. I don't know if it had anything to do with the fact that I have zero interest in witch-type books. I thought it dragged on and I couldn't help but be just happy that I finished it. "

— Sevenangels, 9/8/2011" I've come to love Paulo Coelho's writing. This was a good read but i lacked that awesome feel of self realisation as I read. "
— Chichi, 7/5/2011" Fun and pretty easy read - a little bit of magic and a little bit of love. I liked the conclusion that a soulmate wasn't necessarily your ideal mate, but rather someone who could be a great friend or change your life by simply sharing your company for a brief time. "
— Jennie, 5/16/2011" This book was strange. It was alright but I won't be reading it again. "

— Digdem, 4/14/2011" I have read paulo Coelho Alchemist before. But reading Brida was a different experience. Though the witches dance was a little beyond comprehension, I could totally associate with Bridas thoughts while taking decisions. The best part of the story was Brida's mother' s narrative of her past.<br/> "
