The contemporary companion to Sun-tzu's The Art of War, this brilliant distillation of the strategies of war can help us gain mastery in the modern world.<
Spanning world civilizations, synthesizing dozens of political, philosophical, and religious texts and thousands of years of violent conflict, this is a comprehensive guide to getting ahead and staying there.
Each chapter outlines an approach that will help you win your life's wars. Learn the offensive strategies that require you to maintain the initiative and negotiate from a position of strength, and the defensive strategies that enable you to respond to dangerous situations and avoid situations where winning is impossible.<
As in The 48 Laws of Power, Robert Greene uses illustrative examples from history: Lyndon Johnson's tenacity, Julius Caesar's decisiveness, Joan Crawford's refusal to compromise, Ted Williams's competitive drive, and the folly and genius of everyone from Napoleon to Margaret Thatcher, Shaka the Zulu to Ulysses S. Grant. Great warriors of the battlefield and the drawing room demonstrate prudence, agility, balance, and calm. The rational, resourceful, and intuitive always defeat the panicked, uncreative, and stupid.
Informed by the most ingenious and effective military principles in war, The 33 Strategies provides all the psychological ammunition you need to overcome patterns of failure and forever gain the upper hand.

"I actually learn several tips on how to deal with people that don't have my interest in mind I didn't agree with ever principle of the book but I gained a lot of insight on how to deal with a opponent Great book "
— Darrell (4 out of 5 stars)
" This book prepares yopu for battle with any enemy, competitive colleague and for plain fun. Patience is its virtue and the book must be studied, not read. "
— Karrie, 2/18/2014" Finally got around to finishing this. It's been coming since May 2011. I was surprised at the language and paralleled ideas used in the book that mirrored MCDP-1; words such as fluidity and speed and space and time were prevalent throughout. It was somewhat difficult for me to get through this because of those facts considering I just finished TBS and spent the last 6 months fully engrossed. But the historical parallels and stories were always informative and I enjoyed his presentation. "
— Jessie, 2/15/2014" Not on the same level as '48 Laws ', but still valuable and packed with insight. "
— Arjun, 2/11/2014" Excellent book about war theories and how they apply to current situations. Lots of historical commentary on Napoleon, Hannibal, Alexander the Great, etc. Towards the end, you start to see some of the same people and situations being discussed again. It is very long and if you read all the quotes, it really takes a while to get through this. I think it would have been a better book if it were more concise and didn't reiterate so much in each of the strategies. "
— Dawn, 2/3/2014" The first chapter is life-changing. All the rest is just plain excellent information. Applicable in war and in life. But I be redundant? "
— Adam, 1/14/2014" Much like The 48 Laws of Power. You won't be disappointed. "
— Justin, 1/12/2014" This secular historical application of ancient and contemporary wisdom from martial leaders and strategists is an awesome spiritual and business recource. the quotes are worth the price alone!I use it often in several of my chapters in the book I am writing, "Called to War" "
— Art, 1/10/2014" This is not something to simply read, this is a book worthy of study. Brilliant. "
— Mike, 1/9/2014" Credits to this book for teaching me everything that I need to know about strategy and survival. Brilliantly done! "
— KT, 12/8/2013" almost decent, but who's an individual gonna go to war with? "
— RK, 11/1/2013" Another pure book. The war that is talked about in this book isn't just the traditional style of war, but it is also a good way to explain psychological warfare. A great read all and all. "
— Rsoeffker, 11/1/2013" Excellent if you love History - in particular famous figures, battles, and wars. He humanizes historical people/events in a way that makes what could be dense and overwhelming reading very exciting. "
— Serena, 10/30/2013" A very through book on life. These strategies can be utilized in many different ways to better compete in the world.. Very nice read "

— Andrew, 2/25/2013" the book is great it take 3 hours to finish from its reading. i might revise it again with mind map. "

— Kelly, 5/24/2012" Wow. It's amazing. I suggest this book to everyone who like to be a natural born winner. "
— m, 5/21/2012" Lots of controversial topics, paradoxical arguments(many of the strategies oppose each other), and little room for emergent strategies. You gotta love the storytelling however ! "
— Oz, 4/7/2012" I don't read too many books like this because in the end a lot of them say basically the same things. But this book makes a lot of great points. If you are interested in business, this is a good book to pick up. "
— Brandy, 3/7/2012" A unique book, interesting read "
— Ks, 12/14/2011" I can read this book over and over again and find new principles in it. A very good book on human nature. "
— Amy, 11/10/2011" I really like books like this. Subject of war stategy is examined and discussed by topic. Greene is very good at finding examples to illustrate his stategy as well as good quotes to go along with his discussion. "

— Hlöðver, 5/9/2011" Incredible wealth of knowledge, a must if you are in management. Non stop information from front to back. "
— Hugo, 4/25/2011" A good read but one may find the contents of this book somewhat repetitive in nature, especially if one has already read "The 48 Laws of Power" (a previous book by the same author) before. "
— Choong, 4/15/2011" An interesting book; lots of history which is fun...a lot to chew on as well. This will be a book I keep around for reference! "
— Brendan, 3/12/2011" After reading "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu, this one left me a bit empty. I had read great reviews and a ton of publisher hype; I was expecting much, much more. I give it 2 out of 5. "
— Warren, 2/12/2011" This made me hate humanity, but love myself. "
— James, 11/30/2010" I felt this was Robert Greene's best work, excellent historic anecdotes and biting satiric undertones, loved it. "
— Timothy, 8/15/2010" I absolutely love Robert Greene's books. It hits my pleasure buttons for tactics, strategies and history. The chapters on the effectiveness of Terrorism are particularly haunting. "
— Ricky, 7/7/2010" This secular historical application of ancient and contemporary wisdom from martial leaders and strategists is an awesome spiritual and business recource. the quotes are worth the price alone!I use it often in several of my chapters in the book I am writing, "Called to War" "
— Art, 10/13/2009" The first chapter is life-changing. All the rest is just plain excellent information. Applicable in war and in life. But I be redundant? "
