Publisher Description

"These guys are intense. And they bring that same fire to their narration in the audiobook. Listen to these insanely competent SEAL officers tell you exactly how to make a team successful through their firsthand experiences in business and combat." - The Hustle An updated edition of the blockbuster bestselling leadership audiobook that took America and the world by storm, two U.S. Navy SEAL officers who led the most highly decorated special operations unit of the Iraq War demonstrate how to apply powerful leadership principles from the battlefield to business and life. Combat, the most intense and dynamic environment imaginable, teaches the toughest leadership lessons, with absolutely everything at stake. Jocko Willink and Leif Babin learned this reality first-hand on the most violent and dangerous battlefield in Iraq. As leaders of SEAL Team Three’s Task Unit Bruiser, their mission was one many thought impossible: help U.S. forces secure Ramadi, a violent, insurgent-held city deemed “all but lost.” In gripping, firsthand accounts of heroism, tragic loss, and hard-won victories, they learned that leadership—at every level—is the most important factor in whether a team succeeds or fails. Willink and Babin returned home from deployment and instituted SEAL leadership training to pass on their harsh lessons learned in combat to help forge the next generation of SEAL leaders. After leaving the SEAL Teams, they launched a company, Echelon Front, to teach those same leadership principles to leaders in businesses, companies, and organizations across the civilian sector. Since that time, they have trained countless leaders and worked with hundreds of companies in virtually every industry across the U.S. and internationally, teaching them how to develop their own high-performance teams and most effectively lead those teams to dominate their battlefields. Since it’s release in October 2015, Extreme Ownership has revolutionized leadership development and set a new standard for literature on the subject. Required listening for many of the most successful organizations, it has become an integral part of the official leadership training programs for scores of business teams, military units, and first responders. Detailing the mindset and principles that enable SEAL units to accomplish the most difficult combat missions, Extreme Ownership demonstrates how to apply them to any team or organization, in any leadership environment. A compelling narrative with powerful instruction and direct application, Extreme Ownership challenges leaders everywhere to fulfill their ultimate purpose: lead and win.

"This book I believe tried to bridge the lessons learned in combat to the workplace, but I think what is most important that I would have liked to understand more is the motivational aspect. In the day to day world, we know that it can be a struggle to motivate your workforce from time to time. The Seals are on another level, based on patriotism and brotherhood, where the motivation is constant. It would have been great to gleam one or two pointers into how the Seals motivate their team and how I could possibly apply those tools to say an accounting team.Nevertheless, I still found the book an entertaining and useful read."

" As I was reading this awesome book about how methods of military missions apply to the business world, I developed an awareness I've never had as to how responsible I am for my failures or scores in just about every aspect of life. I realized just how much more I should be doing, and how simple it can be to balance all of life's categories with the right focus and devotion to being disciplined, not restrain myself, but to actually be truly free. " While the beginning of the book takes its time to remind you that this is not a war memoir it sure feels like one. The authors go into great length to make sure that these war stories are told with a gritty voice, and some passages even have sound effects but when it is time for the real world application I wish the same effort was involved. Rather than figuring out exactly how you can become a great leader from former Navy Seals members you are given very general advice such as: Take ownership of your failures, and work together. Had I never had any advice or real world experience with leadership this may have been very helpful, but for me I needed much more and didn't walk away with much from this book. "

It was my first audio book purchase and I must say I was pretty happy first of all with the whole process of buying the audio book. The web site was easy to navigate, easy to pay for, download and ultimately list to on my I Phone. I work in a para military organization so some of the principles were valid. One part that doesn't fly for most para military organizations is the ability to pick your own team. I was glad the writers of the book actually read the book. I would recommend to a friend. "

" Extreme Ownership is not merely another book on leadership but provides a new paradigm on how to approach and execute your role as a leader. The concepts discussed in the book are laid out thoughtfully and carefully to help any leader, at any level, apply these principles to help an organization be successful. As a former Marine, I am captivated by the stories, insights, and military-to-civilian applications presented within the book. Extreme Ownership is a must-read for anyone desiring to stand out in their leadership role. "

About the Authors

Jocko Willink is an author, decorated retired Navy SEAL officer, and cofounder of Echelon Front, where he is a leadership instructor, speaker, and executive coach. He spent twenty years in the US Navy SEAL teams, starting as an enlisted SEAL and rising through the ranks to become a SEAL officer. As commander of SEAL Team Three’s Task Unit Bruiser during the battle of Ramadi, he orchestrated SEAL operations that helped the “Ready First” Brigade of the US Army’s First Armored Division bring stability to the violent, war-torn city. Task Unit Bruiser became the most highly decorated Special Operations Unit of the Iraq War. He returned from Iraq to serve as officer in charge of training for all West Coast SEAL Teams. There, he spearheaded the development of leadership training and personally instructed and mentored the next generation of SEAL leaders who have continued to perform with great success on the battlefield. During his career, he was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and numerous other personal and unit awards. In 2010, he retired from the Navy and launched Echelon Front where he teaches the leadership principles he learned on the battlefield to help others lead and win. Clients include individuals, teams, companies, and organizations across a wide-range of industries and fields.

Leif Babin served nine years as a Navy SEAL. He was in combat in Iraq during the Battle of Ramadi, a conflict that resulted in numerous medals for his efforts. After his tours, Babin served as a Navy SEAL instructor before forming Echelon Front with Jocko Willink, a leadership training group that uses the lessons and expertise the pair learned as SEALs to train leaders beyond the military.
