In this captivating novel of romantic suspense, New York Times bestselling author Linda Howard brings us deep into the wild, where a smart and sexy outdoor guide and her ruggedly handsome competitor must join forces to survive—and avoid becoming what they never expected to be: PREY Thirty-two-year-old Angie Powell has always spoken her mind, but in the presence of Dare Callahan she nurses a simmering rage. After all, why give Dare the satisfaction of knowing he can push her buttons and push her to the edge? Three years ago, Dare returned home to rural western Montana and opened a hunting business to rival Angie’s. Complicating matters is the fact that Dare has asked Angie out (not once but twice) and has given her a gift of butterflies in the process. Angie has no patience for butterflies. They only lead to foolish decisions. And now the infuriatingly handsome Iraq war vet has siphoned away Angie’s livelihood, forcing her to close up shop. Before Angie is to leave town, she organizes one last trip into the wilderness with a client and his guest, who wants to bag a black bear. But the adrenaline-fueled adventure turns deadly when Angie witnesses a cold-blooded murder and finds herself on the wrong side of a loaded gun. Before the killer can tie up this attractive loose end, a bear comes crashing through the woods—changing the dark game completely. Luckily, Dare is camping nearby and hears the shots. Forced together for their very survival, Angie and Dare must confront hard feelings, a blinding storm, and a growing attraction—while being stalked by a desperate killer and a ferocious five-hundred-pound beast. And neither will stop until they reach their prey.

"There's a lot of negative reviews for this one but I seriously liked this one. A bit of horror, a bit of fun, a good load of chemistry and so much more... For many reasons, Prey was more enjoyable than I expected it to be. It deserves a bit more attention, I suppose, but it really depends on who's reading it. Still, gotta love ye old happy endings. :]"

“A pulse-pounding romantic thriller.”
— RT Book Reviews“High adventure and nonstop romantic suspense.”
— Bookreporter" The sort of story that doesn't require intense navel gazing, just coffee, chocolate and a comfy place to read. Interesting idea for the story, though the romance is predictable, that's why we read them. "
— Deanne, 2/15/2014" just love linda howard even though most of her books are predictable. She definitely knows how to keep me interested. "
— Sheila, 2/3/2014" This one was hard for me to put down. The author kept the story flowing smoothly while holding my interest. The only thing I didn't care for was the foul language in some parts. I hadn't expected that. "
— Mary, 1/29/2014" This was a pretty dang good book. Nothing profound and the love story worked though it was a bit quick and over with before you knew it. Still a very entertaining book. With a killer and a man eating bear out to get you it can be intense! I enjoyed this book :) "
— Brooke, 1/28/2014" It wasn't great. It took a really long time for the couple to come together and then it was REALLY quick so it just felt "eh" to me. I didn't like the subplot and the whole bear thing was silly. I normally LOVE her books so perhaps it's just my frame of mind at the moment but I simply can't gather any love for it. "
— Lisa, 1/23/2014" Only reading this because I'm kind of hoping the bear is going to maul and murder the male lead. I'd very much like that. "
— Raven, 1/20/2014" I don't know if I was just in the right mindset, since a number of the reviews weren't great, but I really enjoyed the mix of suspense and romance. "
— Emily, 12/23/2013" I just love Linda Howard. She's always such a great storyteller. "
— Becky, 12/12/2013" A Linda Howard book is never what you think it will be. I haven't been able to put this book down for long. "
— J, 12/11/2013" love, love, LOVE Linda Howard. "
— Shiloh, 11/29/2013" Good story, but I found it a little slow moving. It ended well, but overall not my favorite one by Ms. Howard. Parts just dragged for me. "
— Season, 10/29/2013" Linda Howard is always amazing! "
— Betsy, 10/26/2013" I found this book to be okay...just felt quite predictable and not much to the plot...just seemed more like two completely separate storylines going that just didn't come back together very well. "
— Shawn, 10/13/2013" This book was so bad that I stopped reading it after a few chapters. Blech "
— Francine, 8/21/2013" I used to love Linda Howard-what happened? "
— Jay, 6/30/2013" I am a big Linda Howard fan and I love all her books but this one was a little slow for me. I thought the bear was an interesting character but all in all I liked it. Can't wait for what she comes out with next. "
— Amanda, 4/30/2013" I enjoyed this one more then some of the other Linda Howard novels, just a bit more excitement in it and I liked some of the imagery. "
— Noreen, 11/25/2012" This book was pretty good, but I thought the ending was rushed. "
— Cristi, 9/11/2012" I gave it two stars because I finished it. I'm not sure why I bothered. "
— Becky, 8/14/2012" I liked this book, but I feel that a good portion of it was just the same repeated internal monologue by the characters. "
— Amelia, 7/29/2012" love, love, LOVE Linda Howard. "
— J.C., 1/6/2012" It was better than some of hers that came out in the last few years. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. "
— Julie, 12/17/2011" I felt it ended too quickly and some of the passages were disjointed to the point I thought I had missed a page. "
— Amanda, 11/25/2011" I liked this book. The suspense was good and the romance was good. It was kind of a quick read for me, but that's okay, I don't mind a quick read now and then. I liked the whole surviving nature part of the book, the weather and a man killing bear. "
— Sandra, 11/14/2011" 3.5 Stars. I never connected with the characters in this one. This doesn't usually happen with Linda's books, so I wonder if it was the severe head cold I was suffering from when I read it. Not sure. "
— Sarah, 11/6/2011" A fun adventure. Very, very bad language and intense sexuality. For that reason, I wouldn't recommend it. "
— Ashley, 10/31/2011" If the first half of the book moved as quickly as the second half, this book would have been much better. The story is pretty good, but I'd have liked more conflict between Angie and Chad, rather than the guy we all know from page one that she'll end up with. "
— Carrie, 10/30/2011" Awesome story. I love Linda Howard's ability to take normal, everyday characters and put them in situations that bring out the extraordinary. Mix in some tantalizing romance and sweetness and you have a recipe for an enjoyable, heart stopping read. "
— Gillian, 10/26/2011" I loved the suspense and romance this book had. I listening to this book and the emotion that the narrator used in her voice was unbelievable. "
— Wendy, 10/23/2011" The story was good but the writing was very elementary. This is the first Linda Howard book I've read but it seems like she's a very "whiney" writer. Reminded me of two teenagers thinking out loud. "
— Suzie, 10/23/2011" I would have rated this higher--I liked the principal couple--but the bad guy was so tiresome, and the sections that featured him were so repetitive. Yawn. "
— Lois, 10/20/2011" Good story, but I found it a little slow moving. It ended well, but overall not my favorite one by Ms. Howard. Parts just dragged for me. "
— Season, 10/17/2011" I liked this right up until the end. The ending of the conflict just happened and then it seemed as if it was realized how many pages had been written and then abruptly crammed a happy ending in. "
— Jennifer, 10/15/2011" Worst. Story. Ever. Ugh, this was just awful. The heroine was mean, whiny, and annoying. The hero was pathetically in love with her for TWO years even though she'd rejected him twice. Yuck, yuck, yuck. The worst part of this book was that the most important character in it was a black bear. "
— Applefruit, 10/9/2011" Fun, quick read. Everything went a little too fast, but still enjoyable. Angie and Dare were great. "
