In the charming rural town of Trail Stop, Idaho, accessible to the outside world by only a single road, young widow Cate Nightingale lives peacefully with her four-year-old twin boys, running a bed-and-breakfast. Though the overnight guests are few and far between - occasional hunters and lake fishermen - Cate always manages to make ends meet with the help of the local jack-of-all-trades, Calvin Harris, who can handle everything from carpentry to plumbing. But Calvin is not what he seems, and Cate’s luck is about to run out. One morning, the B&B’s only guest inexplicably vanishes, leaving behind his personal effects. A few days later Cate is shocked when armed men storm the house, demanding the mystery man’s belongings. Fearing for her children’s lives, Cate agrees to cooperate - until Calvin saves the day, forcing the intruders to scatter into the surrounding woods. The nightmare, however, is just beginning. Cate, Calvin, and their entire community find themselves cut off and alone with no means to call for help as the threat gathers intensity and first blood is drawn. With their fellow residents trapped and the entire town held hostage, Cate and Calvin have no choice but to take the fight to their enemies under the cover of night. While reticent Cal becomes a fearless protector, Cate makes the most daring move of her life…into the very heart of danger.

"Wow... I loved this book! It was great! Action, suspense, marines, romance! Wow! BEWARE: This book is not for young eyes! It has a very... detailed... romantic scene in this book that makes it unsuitable for young readers. Even with this part, I absolutely loved everything about the book."
— Emily (4 out of 5 stars)
" Kind of a dumb romance read. But if you have nothing better to do... "
— Candace, 2/19/2014" B&B in Idaho, attacked by mob, good story, limited sex "
— Dianne, 2/19/2014" It had a slow beginning. But once it got going the story was pretty good. I wouldn't call it a page turner. The story was definitely interesting. The ending seemed like it all wrapped up too easily and quickly. I was annoyed with how similar the two love stories were. I found that aspect of the story unimaginative. Overall, it was good. I am easily amused by this genre. "
— Tristan, 2/18/2014" This was a really quick romance. The love stories were set up in the context of an attack on a very rural town in the middle of nowhere. Good characters and sweet connections. "
— Courtney, 2/15/2014" I think I've gone a little overboard with Linda Howard. The first couple of books I read were all fantastic. However, the last two have been disappointing. They're lacking in character development and the hot steamy , Can't look at you without wanting you feel. There was only one scene in this book with a little passion and that too sadly lacking. Plus the story keeping in mind a hostage situation of the entire community didnt pack quite the punch. I enjoyed the others with chasing after killers, cruises getting bombed and plane crashes much more. I hope the next one I pick up isnt as disappointing as this one. "
— Neha, 2/13/2014" Interesting but didn't rock my world "
— Beth, 2/4/2014" Overall, I thought this book wasn't too bad but, I had a lot of trouble suspending disbelief with the plot. There were so many times while I was reading that I found myself pulled completely out of the story saying "Oh come on, really?!" Not the least of which being how a whole town could be under seige like that without anyone from the outside world knowing? I also thought that too much time was spent in the bad guys head. But the characters were good and I adored Cal. He was probably the one redeeming thing about the whole book for me. The idea of this tough guy who recognizes love at first sight and then waits literally tongue tied until she realizes it too is pretty hard to resist. "
— Tori, 1/30/2014" really under my expectation. Bored. "
— Asrina, 1/9/2014" Started out slow, but really picked up speed once into the book. I loved the outdoor / mountain setting!! "
— Lois, 1/3/2014" Agak kecewa dengan alur ceritanya....gitu aja endingnya? berasa kurang LH :D "
— Tukang, 12/11/2013" I liked this story. Would have liked it better if it stayed with Hero/Heroine, not so much villan. "
— Kelly, 11/28/2013" Excessively improbable, but entertaining. "
— Stephanie, 11/17/2013" I enjoyed the characters in this book, the way out there plot was just too way out there. "
— Breezy, 10/14/2013" I had trouble taking this book seriously because the idea that the bad guys come up with to get back what they came looking for was ridiculous. I loved both of the couples and wished there had been more focus not them and less details about the action in the second part of the book. "
— Lady, 10/9/2013" Another book where the romance killed what would have been a great story. I should have read the description more closely. "
— Sharon, 9/8/2013" Didn't like - predictable, flimsy, and a poor plot line. "
— S, 7/30/2013" This was ok not as good as some of her other books, but still good enough to keep me interested. "
— Clare, 3/14/2013" The very first Linda Howard book I read. Picked it up off the "new books" shelf at the library. I discovered a new author that day and one of my very favorites! "
— Anne, 8/5/2012" Audiobook: It was ok. That's all, just ok. "
— Sandy, 7/15/2012" Tons of characters brought it down to 4 stars. Otherwise GREAT!! "
— Connie, 4/27/2012" i thought it was an entertaining book- though i have to agree that the romance moved a bit quick . worth the read- if you want a quick read. "
— Mrsinserra, 3/27/2012" I thought it could have used more romance but it did have some decent action and mystery. "
— Candese, 4/6/2011" cate: "why did you stop blushing?"
cal: "because you started".

paling ingat sama quote ini :))

"
— Kim_bab, 3/3/2011" Really liked it despite the absurdity of taking over a town to get a flashdrive! "
— Lesley, 2/24/2011" Loved the premise of this book and the relationship between Cal and Cate. But, I do think the ending needed to be fleshed out more. I wanted to know more about how the towns people were actually rescued. It seemed like that part was completely skipped. All in all a very good book. "
— Brenda, 2/21/2011" I really liked this one. Honestly something like this could totally happen in any small town and it's the realism that made it great. "
— Andrea, 2/11/2011" Nothing special but a fun read. "
— MRS, 12/6/2010" Narrated by Dick Hill and

Dick Hill generally is a hit for me but with this one I hated his hero voice! Everyone else was good. "
— Brenda, 10/4/2010" Listening to audiobook - Male and female readers. Story was pretty predictable. For a Romance Suspense novel, I didn't find much romance or suspense in it. Wouldn't ever re-read or re-listen. "
— Vic, 9/14/2010" Worst book by Linda Howard I ever read. Honestly, did she really write this book? It didn't seem like her writing at all! Was completely bored, uninterested, and confused. This book could have been left off the Linda Howard reading list! "
— Debbie, 9/13/2010" somewhat slow starting - but good "
