Something inhuman is stalking the frigid Alaskan wilds, leaving unspeakable carnage in its wake. For bush pilot Alexandra Maguire, the killings stir memories of a horrific event she witnessed as a child and evoke in her the inexplicable sense of otherness she has long felt within herself but never fully understood...until a darkly seductive stranger with secrets of his own enters her world.
Sent from Boston on a mission to investigate the savage attacks and stop the slaughter, vampire warrior Kade has his own reasons for returning to the frigid, forbidding place of his birth. Haunted by a secret shame, Kade soon realizes the stunning truth of the threat he faces—a threat that will jeopardize the fragile bond he has formed with the courageous, determined young woman who arouses his deepest passions and most primal hungers. But in bringing Alex into his world of blood and darkness, Kade must confront both his own personal demons and the even greater evil that could destroy all he holds dear.

"I should give this book 3 stars, cause I was totally bored the first half of the book and just did a heavy skim job on it. Since Kade is a newer character to the series, we hadn't seen much of his personality/struggles and therefore the author had to spend time introducing us to his character before any real interaction took pace. His story might have been a bit easier to get into if we were a little more invested in his character before the book began as we have had with the majority of the other male characters. That being said, I think that Kade and Alex are up at the top of my fav couples of this series, therefore the 4 instead of the 3. I am dying to get to Chase's story."

— Joyfully Reviewed" This was the best one yet... no gaps in the storyline, good progression. I couldn't put it down. "
— Paloma, 2/18/2014" My oh My - I loved Kade!!! This was a good one as far as advancing the overall story as well. "
— Leeanne, 1/31/2014" Wonderful...I really enjoyed this installment! "
— Morgana, 1/22/2014" i love every one of these books but this is my fave "
— Deb, 1/22/2014" I'm giving it a three because of everything except the main characters. Again, I am very disappointed in the 5 minutes and everyone is in love. Lara Adrian writes well. She proved that with the beginning of the series, but I'm wondering if she's being pushed too hard to get these done quickly. Lara - please take time with your characters. I personally would gladly wait for the next books. Anxiously course! But as it is, I've stopped after the Brock one and I don't know if I would ever pick up this series again. "
— Monica, 1/8/2014" I was a little leary of this one, not being that familiar with Kade. We didn't learn alot about him in previous books. WELL..I was pleasantly surprised. This was such a good book. Edge of your seat action, some heartbreak, and yes, sex. I loved this book and can't wait for the next. "
— Wendy, 1/3/2014" I compare these to the BDB books and these fall short - compared to them it's really a 3-3-5 star read but if you take them in their own a 4 star read. These have been languishing on my TBR pile & as I'm on a no new series til I finish some I'm currently on it seemed time to pick them up again. "
— Belinda, 12/25/2013" This was my favorite book in the series. I loved Kade's story "
— Michelle, 11/18/2013" This was a really touching story!! Love all the books so far.. :) "
— Yeni, 11/2/2013" *Begging* Mercy, Mignight Breed! Don't ever leave me! "
— Katrina, 10/21/2013" This series was top notch until I got to this one. The main characters were two-dimensional and the story didn't go anywhere until the rest of the Order showed up. I hope this was just a hiccup :) "
— *Kyhm*, 10/7/2013" I'm glad Lara Adrian got her shit together and got back on track with this one...here's hoping the next one continues down this path! "
— Katherine, 12/12/2012" The entire series is definitely worth reading! "
— Jaimie, 12/8/2012" Awesome! Loved the Alaskan setting, loved the characters, and loved the action. I'm sad I only have 1 more book to go, then I have to wait for book #9. Great series though! "
— Gina, 8/31/2012" Kade gets sent to Alaska to investigate a possible rouge killing and meets Alex, a pilot who fled Florida with her father after a tragedy hit her family. This one felt more like a filler, an OK book but no bigger progress with Dragos. We did meet the Ancient, though. 3,5 Stars. "
— Linda, 6/22/2012" Love that we got to know more about a newer member of the Order. Those newer ones have been a mystery, and am very glad we're getting to know them. "
— Katherine, 5/28/2012" I did not expect to like this book so much. "
— Löki, 1/28/2012" Very good I enjoyed it. "
— Joan, 1/2/2012" Shades of Midnight has become one of my favorites Midnight Breed books. Kade's story was compelling, fast paced, and not too sugary. Bonus points for having the story set in Alaska and for having a heroine who was not a weakling, whining brat (ahem, Clare). "
— Mika, 12/5/2011" Although not my favourite of the series I really did enjoy this book. Kade and Alex's relationship was not as intense to me as some of the others. However Kade's other relationships made this book better in other senses of the story. "
— Carien, 12/5/2011" Excellent addition to the series! "
— Marsha, 8/13/2011" Fun paranormal romance :) "
— Dmbets, 7/17/2011" I really liked this book. Lara's story lines seem to get better as the series' progresses. "

— Michelle, 4/1/2011" excellent story as per usual. i can't get over how beautifully written Lara Adrian's words are. fabulous "
— T-Rose, 3/28/2011" I enjoyed this book. I got a little more emotionally involved with this book than I did with the other books in the series. "
— Kayta, 3/23/2011" So far I am enjoying this book. Most of this series has held my interest from the start and this one is no different. The charactors are well developed and more importantly easy to like. The very first page draws you into the story line with great suspense.
LOVED it.
"
— Dawn, 3/22/2011" Book 7 was a little harder to get into only because it involved Kade which we really didn't know much about before the book. "
— Taryn, 3/18/2011" These two seem young and fresh and fun. It always take me a while to warm to the new additions to the ranks but Kade is easily liked and Alex has a strong will which is refreshing. 3.5 stars. "
— Leyoh, 3/10/2011" Not as good as the rest of the series. maybe as Kade was quite a new cast member, so I didn't know him that well. It all just seemed to happen to quick, so I didn't feel anything for the characters. "
— Caroline, 3/9/2011" I love every one of these books. I guess I'm just sappy like that. I love to read a happy ending, it cheers me up. This one was about Kade and Alexandra in Alaska. I really enjoyed it. I couldn't put it down and read it in two nights. That's really fast for me! "
— Laura, 2/28/2011" Loving the Midnight Breed books :) "
