After writing ten Midnight Breed novels, author Lara Adrian seemed to be done with the series, but, fortunately for fans, she decided to continue it in an eleventh book titled Edge of Dawn. In this novel, the action takes place twenty years after the end of the tenth book, but the futuristic world that Adrian has created is still the same, consisting of vampires and humans living side by side in a tenuous peace maintained by the Breed Warriors. The heroine is the lovely Mira who has the Sight and can show you any moment in time, good or bad. Mira is also a Breed Warrior and she's never gotten over losing Kellan, her best friend and lover who was also part of the Breed but was killed in a mission eight years ago.
After committing an infraction, Mira is temporarily demoted from her status as Captain of her team and is sent to escort a scientist named Ackmeyer safely from Boston to D. C. However, she and Ackmeyer are kidnapped by a group of rebels who believe in vigilante justice, and their leader is none other than Kellan himself. Thus reunited, Mira and Kellan can't stay away from each other, but they have to work out their issues, including an explanation on Kellan's part as to why he has let Mira believe he was dead for so many years. In addition to the romance, the two protagonists must fight a plot to steal a powerful weapon with great destructive power.
This is a sexy, action-packed read with an interesting paranormal element. It's always fun to read a book where the focus is not just on the heroine's finding true love but also on her personal growth and the development of her powers. Mira manages to defeat the bad guys without sacrificing her need for a fulfilling relationship.
Lara Adrian is the pseudonym of writer Tina St. John who quit her career in corporate administration to take up writing full time. At first, she wrote historical romances under her real name but then branched out into paranormal romance with the Midnight Breed series which has frequently been on the New York Times bestseller list. She can trace her ancestry back to the Mayflower and to the court of King Henry VIII and currently lives in coastal New England with her husband.
"I absolutely LOVED this book! It was so intense. When I first started the book I felt as though I had missed out on the lives of some of my favorite characters, but then as it progressed, it was more exciting than not! Mira is amazing, the Breed is even more fantastic and the Order, oh man the Order! I am so excited to read about all these new characters Miss Adrian has given us, and WOW Nathan, he is going to be so like Hunter! Mira and Kellen were so heart wrenching. I don't think there is another word or words that could describe them! This book was well worth the wait, and since Lara has done a fabulous job arch the story and giving us a way to have another 10 books or so, then Woot Woot!"
