Publisher Description

In the frozen Alaskan wilderness, former state trooper Jenna Darrow survives an unspeakable breach of body and soul. But with her narrow escape comes an even greater challenge. For strange changes are taking place within her, as she struggles to understand—and control—a new hunger. To do so, she will seek shelter in the Boston compound of the Order, an ancient race of vampire warriors whose very existence is shrouded in mystery. Perhaps the most mysterious of them all is Brock, a brooding, dark-eyed alpha male whose hands hold the power to comfort, heal...and arouse.

As she recovers under Brock's care, Jenna finds herself drawn to the Order's mission: to stop a ruthless enemy and its army of assassins from subjecting Earth to a reign of terror. Yet in spite of their resolve, a purely physical relationship without strings soon binds Brock and Jenna together with a desire fiercer than life and stronger than death itself—until a secret from Brock's past and Jenna's own mortality challenges their forbidden love to the ultimate trial by fire.

"*no spoilers* Not much to add from what I've said of the books in this series. I'd go 3 1/2 or 4 stars. Great storytelling as always...this author never disappoints for a steady and interesting story that keeps me eagerly turning the pages. The chemistry for the characters is very good, and there's an interesting conflict for the main characters. On the downside, I would have enjoyed more development with the villain and much more on the physical issues with the main character as there was much that could have been worked with there. I'd love this author to go a bit longer on these books because she always seems to leave great potential she's created left on the table. Good read!"

" Wonderful addition to the series. I loved Brock, he was so caring and loving. I also liked how Jenna emotionally changed throughout the book. I can't wait for the next book - Hunter - he sounds so interesting. "

" The series has been getting better and better! Jenna added a very interesting twist to the series, not just in this particular book but hopefully in future books. I hope that we get to see more of her, not just in little bits in another character's story. The story line of the Breed is getting very exciting. Taken by Midnight left me engrossed and wanting for more! We need to hear more about Jenna. I am patiently awaiting Hunter's book :) "

" I loved it! The Breed is awesome...tied with the Lords of the underworld. The whole thing that happens with Jenna kept me stuck w/my nose in the book. I sure hope Lara takes her character further into the rest of her series. "

" This book was just ok. Not something I would pick up and read again. I never felt a real connection between the characters. I really wish what was happening to Jenna had more of an explanation. I think that if they had digged in deeper with that it would have helped the story. "
