"4 words come to mind when summing up this story...she didn't deserve him! Why 4 stars? Jamie was worth every one of them. He was near to perfect, all the qualities I love in a yummy Highland Warrior. Caitrina...well I wanted to slap her silly through most of the book. She was untrusting, and always put Jamie second, which at first was understandable but further into the story it was just annoying and unjust. The ending for me didn't play out much different than the rest of the book, as far as Caitrinas trust issues, she so frequently went back and forth with her "yes I trust you" "I don't know if I can". An Epilogue would have been nice. I felt a bit cheated. Hopefully book #2 in the "Campbell" trilogy will give some insight into their HEA"

— Romantic Times" Monica McCarty writes wonderful early Scottish romance adventures. "
— Diane, 2/9/2014" This book is about Jamie and Caitrina. The two are struggling against her hatred for his clan and the attraction the two feel for each other. I liked Jamie, but felt he was not as demanding as other highlander men in some of my other favorite books. That being said I still liked him everything about him , he just seemed "yummy". I also liked Caitrina and the strength she showed in the struggles she has to face. "
— Amy, 12/16/2013" This was my first romance/ Romance read. Not too shabby, but I am a sucker for anything Highlander. "
— Pinda, 12/14/2013" I love this book... I love this series... I love this author. A must read. "

— Tracy's, 10/25/2013" One of my all time favorite authors of historical Scottish romances. Completely worth reading. "
— Ebbjr, 8/9/2013" Fast paced - not a slow read. I read this in 2 evenings and can't wait for the next in the series. "
— Katderrick, 8/1/2013" I liked this book, but it was a little slow at times. I also felt as though the two main characters were to stubborn and untrusting of one another. It made it hard to get to know them and to care about them. However, the writing was great and I enjoyed the romance scenes quite a bit! :-) "
— Crystal, 6/5/2013" I didn't really expect this to be a literacy genius of a book. But it does have hot Scottish lairds, though for some reason it was missing the kilts ... "
— Denise, 10/22/2012" This is the first Monica McCarty novel I've read and I loved it! There's a lot of tension between the characters and I missed reading about those sexy Scots. I just love it when they take control. "
— Joy, 9/12/2012" Great book, I really liked the story line and how it reflects actual history. Characters are great! "
— Kasia, 3/16/2012Monica McCarty is the New York Times bestselling author of the Highlander trilogy and the Campbell trilogy. After a short but enjoyable stint as an attorney, she realized that her career as a lawyer set against her husband’s transitory life as a professional baseball player was not exactly a match made in heaven. So she traded in her legal briefs for Scottish historical romances with sexy alpha heroes. She lives in the San Francisco Bay area with her husband and their two children.
