Forbidden love, undeniable desire…
Davina Montgomery is no ordinary English lady. For her own protection, she’s been locked away from society, her true identity the Crown’s most closely guarded secret. Until a shocking betrayal—and a bold rescue—land her in the arms of a fierce Highlander, a powerful warrior whose searing gaze and tantalizing touch awaken her body and soul.
As the firstborn son of a powerful Scottish laird, Robert MacGregor has no loyalty to the English throne, but he’s not the kind of man to leave a woman in distress, even if she is English. He vows to deliver Davina to safety, unharmed and untouched. Yet one stolen kiss leaves them both smoldering with desire and desperate for more. With Davina’s secret threatening to destroy his clan, Rob must choose between everything he holds dear and the one woman he can’t live without.

"This was a little different from most other Highlander romance novels. Divina and Rob don't fight their love but embrace it. It's the other politics around them that at first keep them away from each other but they eventually give into it. Their love scenes left me giggling because the choice words she uses to describe the love making is hilarious.. I'm laughing right now. It was a quick listen."

“The first installment in Quinn’s Children of the Mist series deftly combines historical fact and powerful romance…There’s much more than just sizzling sensuality: history buffs will love the attention to period detail and cameos by real-life figures, and the protagonists embody compassion, responsibility, and unrelenting, almost self-sacrificial honor. Quinn’s seamless prose and passionate storytelling will leave readers hungry for future installments.”
— Publishers Weekly (starred review)“Carrington MacDuffie turns this classic bodice ripper into a delightful romp through the British Isles, effortlessly shifting between forbidding abbess and randy rogue. Her portrayals of both Highlanders and soldiers sound so convincing that one forgets entirely that a woman is performing them. MacDuffie narrates the salacious bits of the story with enthusiasm and tact. This book is just the ticket to spice up a long drive.”
— AudioFile“I am anxiously awaiting further stories about Paula Quinn’s hunky Highlanders. This novel is full of excitement and thrills.”
— Fresh Fiction“Quinn once again brilliantly captures the aura of the Highlands. Here is an amazing love story where characters’ deep emotions and sense of honor for their countrymen will enchant readers.”
— Romantic Times (4½ stars, Top Pick!)" A chance meeting brings together Robert MacGregor and the mysterious Davina Montgomery. She's hiding a secret but young MacGregor is drawn to her and know he must protect her even though she shot him with an arrow at their first encounter. It's an age old theme. Some might even call it a curse. "
— Cario, 12/25/2013" i loved th ending because everything worked out exactly like it should.... wish it could have been longer and had more interconnected realtionships between the characters because they really didn't develope a very strong relationship together except for one or two parts when she is running through the rain or standing on the bow of a ship. "
— Taya, 12/14/2013" They just don't make'em like they use to! "

— Cindy, 10/23/2013" This was a wonderful story. It grabbed me from the start! I loved the interaction with the characters and trying to figure out the secrets in the beginning. Can't wait to read the next in the series! "
— Amy, 10/20/2013" The story was predictable average romance fare. The narrator was awful and the reason I rated it low. Her horrible Scottish accents really ruined the book. "
— Carol, 10/7/2013" This is my first romance novel that I've actually been intrigued by. The storyline was amazing! "
— Kate, 10/1/2013" Read this book twice. Great series and loved the characters . "
— Lissette, 5/1/2013" Oh how I've missed my Scottish Highlanders. This is the first book I read by Quinn and I quite enjoyed it. It definitely will not be my last. I'm looking forward to reading about the other MacGregor Brothers. "
— Michelle, 11/2/2012" More like 2.5. I liked the characters and the supporting characters but they need to SPICE it up a little. I appreciate(& only want ) a HEA but these do admitted, declared... Their love early and the sex scenes were blah so just felt like it was going on and on "
— Lisa, 8/18/2012" Loved the MacGregor Clan! The characters jumped off the page and they kept me turning pages into the night. "
— April, 8/12/2012" I give this one about 3 1/2 stars. I enjoyed the book; however, it was a slow read and took a while to really get into it. "
— Tonya, 6/27/2012" What a great story! I love Davina and Rob. It wa sso fun to watch these 2 fall in love wth each other. Even though this seems to be the 3rd in the series, I had no trouble following the families. I will be seeking out that earlier ones. "
— Kari, 9/16/2011" Tried this one on a whim and really like it. I'll work my way through the series if they continue to be this good! A fun twist on what could have happened in history. "
— Jp, 9/7/2011" Only got through Chapter 4. Decent writing but it just didnt hold my interest. "
— Katharyn, 6/1/2011" Historically detailed, yet painful romance. "
— Kathryn, 5/16/2011" Way cuter than I thought it would be! I really like how it played out and didn't given into being a complete porn novel!

I'm interested in seeing where the author takes the series :) "
— Kate, 12/5/2010" I would classify this as high quality "escape" fiction. It is fairly accurate historically, and has a compelling plot. Ms. Quinn is a gifted story-teller. "
— Miriam, 11/24/2010" Nice Light Read - perfect for beach, cottage "
— Jennifer, 8/18/2010" Fun, romantic Highland romp with likable characters, especially the hero. It is part of a series, and I will make a point to read the rest. It wasn't especially well-written, but it was enjoyable. Great way to spend a weekend, but not "great literature". Enjoy. "
