Handsome and dangerous, Patrick MacGregor is a wanted man, possessing the tough, tenacious spirit of his outlawed clan. He will stop at nothing to save his people from destruction, even if it means marrying Elizabeth Campbell, the daughter of his worst enemy. Yet the flaxen-haired beauty disarms him from the start. Her sweet, unspoiled softness touches the cold depths of his ravaged soul—and makes him want much more than revenge. Inside the shy and dutiful Lizzie is a passionate woman longing to emerge, a woman ready for love. So when the piercing emerald eyes and searing kiss of a stranger spark in her a desperate hunger, she surrenders to Patrick's glorious seduction—unaware that his daring deception has just found its one and only chance for redemption: a love more powerful than hate.

"4.5 stars. Exciting and an almost constant change of scenery, which is great. I don't like staying in the same drafty castle for 300 pages. The more I read of Monica McCarty, the more I want to know about what happens to the rest of the characters in her books. I like how all of her series flow into one another, and how she has little historically accurate notes at the end. She seems very knowledgeable about the time period, and includes details that most people (like me!) would never get around to discovering on their own. As they are all very loosely based on real people and events, it's great to read the facts that inspired her stories, as well as the extra goodies and the yummy highlanders that all come from somewhere in dreamland. Sexy and engaging read!"

[McCarty] presents an unforgettable tale of a blossoming romance and passion that defies societal views and brings an era to life.

— Brittany, 2/20/2014" You know I love me some Monica McCarty. "
— B, 2/14/2014" I loved the heroine of this story because she was so relateable especially with her relationships with men. Patrick was the perfect hero for her because he truly loved her despite her flaws. The plot of this book was excellent. I liked that Patrick pretended to be someone else because it's always interesting to see how the truth is revealed. I really liked how this book coincided with the first one. It was interesting to see how their stories intertwined especially when a major "event" occured. "
— Erin, 2/14/2014" I loved this book and both of the characters!! Although he was deceiving her the entire time, he still loved her and always treated her well. I loved watching the two of them work through all of the problems outside of their relationship knowing how much they loved each other. It was one of those "different time, different place and everything could have been perfect" stories but with the HEA. "
— Kris, 2/1/2014" Excellent! I was hooked from page 1. "
— Sherri, 1/23/2014" Much better than the first book, but its still not as good as the Guard books. However, I have become a big fan of the MacGregors:) Strong, Hunted, and Sexy..... Men to dream about!! "

— Elaine, 6/1/2012Monica McCarty is the New York Times bestselling author of the Highlander trilogy and the Campbell trilogy. After a short but enjoyable stint as an attorney, she realized that her career as a lawyer set against her husband’s transitory life as a professional baseball player was not exactly a match made in heaven. So she traded in her legal briefs for Scottish historical romances with sexy alpha heroes. She lives in the San Francisco Bay area with her husband and their two children.
