Homicide detective Thomas DelVecchio, Jr has a sordid past, but not one of his own making. His father was a serial killer, and he has spent his life trying to atone for the sins of his family.
Sophia Reilly is an Internal Affairs officer assigned to DelVecchio, or "Veck", as he is sometimes called. Yet her professional interest in monitoring his activities may be eclipsed by her lust for him.
The third link in this drama is a mysterious stranger, Jim Heron, a man with a lot of answers to some very deadly questions. In the battle between justice and vengeance, this fallen angel of sorts is the only breaker between them and the hell that awaits.
J.R. Ward is the pen name for Jessica Rowley Pell Bird, the one used for her paranormal romance series. Her maiden name Jessica Bird is used for romance novels. Continuing to write during school, she majored in art history, concentrating on the medieval period. Later, she received a law degree and was employed in healthcare administration. After becoming married, her husband encouraged her to publish her work. She enjoys writing series novels which tie together characters of previous stories.
""Envy" has been my favorite from The Fallen Angels series. In kept me intrigued all the time and I loved the love story!!! I liked how J.R.Ward is merging the Black Dagger Brotherhood and the Fallen Angels series together. It was interesting getting to know Nigel, Colin and Devina better. This book had a little bit of everything...heart-breaking loss, friendship, action, HOT romance and true love in every form!!! Loved it!!!!!"

" I believe that they changed the narrator from the first book in the series which was a good choice. Eric does a great job narrating the series. I wasn't sure how the return of a character from an earlier book would go but it worked well and all round a good read. "
— Desiree, 3/6/2019" The best one yet in the series. Veck is addictive. "
— Kara, 2/16/2014" 3rd book in the series with a strong central romance as always. I love J.R. Ward's writng style. I found it interesting that this angel/demon series crossed over slightly with her vampire series. Some cool developments in the overarching series regardng Jim and Sissy and Devina. Makes me wonder if she has something planned for Adrian, too. "
— Nicole, 2/11/2014" I had been looking forward to this book for a while. I really like Jim, and while I find a lot of the plot lines rather predictable, I enjoy reading the stories. Having said that though, I was disappointed. I don't know if it's because I had such high expectations, but this book was really ho-hum. I skimmed or outright skipped about the middle third of the book it was so boring. The end was well done (although the whole Jim getting out of the deal with Devina because "he lied" seemed rather simple), the beginning was OK, but the middle.... Gah. I did enjoy the more active role Colin took and I enjoyed that he and Nigel were featured more. I'll keep reading the series, because I'd like to see how this all works out, but I'm not looking forward to Mathias in the next book, since I didn't care for him all that much in the first place. On the other hand if JR Ward can make him likable, she'll have proven herself an amazing author. "
— Carrie, 1/27/2014" Veck and Reilly have one kick-butt book. I find the fallen angel concept by this author to be absolutely fascinating. They are Harley riding tough guys, tough talkers and fighters. With a demon like Devina to fight, it's a race to see who is toughest. Veck had lots of issues and Reilly brings out the best in him. It is going to be a long wait until the 4th in this series comes out. Hurry up September! "
— Linda, 1/23/2014" I might love Black Dagger Brotherhood, and this story may overlap with it nicely, however I still had a horrible time with this book. I ended up skimming it more than concentrated reading as I normally would do just because it was the only way I actually made any progress on it. Otherwise I'd probably still be within the first four chapters. Veck's story is somewhat predictable and still oddly sweet, which rings true for the romance angle of these books. It's a decent book, for some reason it just didn't click with me like some of her others do. "
— Racquel, 1/19/2014" Wow, J.R. Ward at her best. loved it cover to cover. "
— Julie, 1/19/2014" repetitive formula, not interesting as the BDB "
— Atama001, 12/14/2013" *4.5-5* stars. I think this just might be the best one yet :-) Great storyline, action, tension, some "hot" scenes, some emotional ones, it had it all. Loved it! "
— Amber, 11/26/2013" Took me longer to get into this series than the black dagger brotherhood but am now hooked! "
— Mikaela, 11/15/2013" J.R. Ward's Envy is the best in the Fallen Angel series so far!!!!! Jim keeps getting better and better, and Veck well I think I'm wordless. just yummo. "
— Rhonda, 10/16/2013" This series is getting better as it goes along. Loved the crossovers with Ward's BDB series. "
— Fiona, 10/13/2013" I liked this latest addition to the Sins series, though I did notice a few times where I was a bit confused by a few plot elements.. but overall, Ward delivers more badass characters, battles between good and evil and romance. "
— Susannah, 7/30/2013" Best of the series thus far! I'm in love with Veck and can't wait to see his crossover in Lover Unleashed (which I hear was actually before this book but whatever!). Oh and the only reason this got 4 stars instead of 5 is because the Nigel and Collin stuff was damn annoying. "
— Kel, 4/9/2013" Loved this book. And I love how Ward very subtly ties in both series. Great story line and loved the characters. Looking forward to the next book in the series. "
— Shasta, 2/22/2013" Loved it, loved it, loved it! I absolutely love JR Ward's writing. This was my favorite so far in The Fallen Angels series! "
— Dawna, 1/26/2013" love those books!it's my second reading and i'm sure to read them again in the future.i have read a lot of books since then but right now i am into SAMANTHA MOON,love JR RAIN,he is funny and has an original story line and a great sense of humor...i will be buying more of his books. "
— Louise, 12/14/2012" Third and best so far in this series. Veck and Reilly went well together and i enjoyed their story. The thing I love about JR Ward books are the well fleshed out secondary characters and how we see them throughout the series. lots lots more of Eddie and Adrian and more of Nigel and Colin bliss! "
— Irene, 11/11/2012" Basically the same old thing I've come to expect from Ward. I did really like Veck's character but nothing else stands out. "
— Maureen, 4/3/2012" bit disappoint coming from Ward :/ "
— Zita, 1/13/2012" JR has a way of reading that I can't get over, the more I read the more I want to read from her. "
— Dalis, 11/3/2011" I really liked this one, with one exception . . .the heroine COMPLETELY bailed at the first sign of trouble. Other than that, it was exceptional! :) "
— Mandy, 11/1/2011" Amazing book, with not a dull moment. Honestly, she gets better and better. "
— Trip, 10/31/2011" I know this was about angels but the religious stuff I could not turn off. Yuck. "
— Donna, 10/28/2011" Don't usually like fantasy. Was recommended
By a friend. I actually read it within days
Violence mixed with raunchy/ wild sex "
— Jasmine, 10/28/2011" I really liked Veck's character. I was no too happy about the end of one of our angels but I'm kind of hoping Ward will bring him back. "
— Ashleigh, 10/27/2011" Really enjoyed this one, especially Veck and his personal demons. I'm excited for the next installment. "
