“It isn’t easy to write a protagonist that blends the best qualities of Anita Blake and Stephanie Plum, but Kim Harrison carries it off with style. This is a fun book! Read it!”    — Jim Butcher, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author

In the Hollows, the vampires come out to play… and it’s always witching hour.

The first book in #1 New York Times bestselling author Kim Harrison’s Hollows series!

All the creatures of the night gather in “the Hollows” of Cincinnati, to hide, to prowl, to party . . . and to feed.

Vampires rule the darkness in a predator-eat-predator world rife with dangers beyond imagining—and it’s Rachel Morgan’s job to keep that world civilized.

" This is a major guilty pleasure! I actually didn't like the first book (this one) so much but gave it another chance with the second because the series was recommended. They get better and I was totally sucked in. If you're a fan of cheesy fantasy books, you'll love it. "

" The very first book that started my obsession for reading fantasy, if not for Kim Harrison and her amazing series The Hollows I would probably even today remain oblivious to the wonders of reading. So I will forever treasure this book and be grateful to the author who created it. "

" Though I'm normally more a fan of mysteries than fantasy books, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Kim Harrison has the storytelling ability to make the world drop away while you're reading her books. I loved Jenks' character the most, and I found the strange connection between Ivy and Rachel intriguing. I appreciated that while the book did have closure, there were several loose ends left open for the next book in the series. "

" it is comedic which was a surprise-listening on CD and the reader is very good - story and writing is simplistic and entertaining but not sure if I could have gotten through reading it and not listening to it "

" When I first started this book I couldn't get into it. Usually, if I'm really into a book, I'll finish it in a day or two. It took my almost 2 weeks to read this. Once I actually got into it though, about half way through, I really liked the characters and couldn't put it down. The copy I have is a 2 in one with the first and second in one edition so I read straight through the 2nd one and then read the 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Now I just need to finish the series! "

" In an alternate universe a virus exposes the different species among us. Vampires, faeries, werewolves, pixies not to mention witches. The wide range of characters, mystery and strange plot twists have kept me reading this series. We'll see how long the interest lasts. "

" Kind of slowish (is that a word?) at the start, but there was a lot of information to get in...like a pixy can take a fairy! Seriously, what an amazing imagination this author has! The middle and ending were great...definitely left LOTS of room for more books in the series! "

" Fantastic introduction to the series! Definitely had me hooked from the first chapter on, and I haven't been able to put down any book in the series yet! For those that love the world of the super natural, with hints of humor, and nail biting action, you'll definitely love the Rachel Morgan series! "

" I got 3% in and couldn't go farther. I just couldn't. The protagonist was awful and I felt like there were things I needed to know that weren't explained at all, and maybe they would have been if I'd gone farther. I've never put a book down this quickly. "

" This whole series is a fun read. The main character is sassy and everyone is Totally Awesome but has major flaws. I don't enjoy fantasy books where your main character is Too Perfect to be True, and this one doesn't do that. Fun to read; the kind of thing dad calls "brain candy." "

" My mother-in-law recommended this book. I didn't think that was something I would find interesting and found it a little slow in the beginning. But I was actually surprised to find that I like it by the time I finished it. I am planning to read the rest of the series. "
