From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Seeing Red comes Hello, Darkness, a brilliant, fast-paced tale about a woman haunted by her past and caught in a nightmare that threatens to destroy her future.
For Paris Gibson, her popular late-night radio show is both an escape and her one real contact with the outside world. To her loyal listeners, she is a wise and trusted friend who not only takes their requests but listens to their problems and occasionally dispenses advice.
Paris’s world of isolation is shattered when one listener—a man who identifies himself only as “Valentino”—tells her that the girl he loves jilted him because of Paris’s on-air advice. Now he intends to exact his revenge: first he plans to kill the girl—then he will come after Paris.
Joined by the Austin police department, Paris plunges into a race against time in an effort to find Valentino before he can carry out his threat. To her dismay, she finds that she must now work with crime psychologist Dean Malloy, a man with whom she shares a history. His presence arouses old passions, forcing Paris to confront painful memories that she had come to Austin to forget.
As the clock ticks down and Valentino’s threats come closer to becoming reality, Paris finds herself forced to deal with a killer who may not be a stranger at all.
Tense and compelling right up to the chilling climax, Hello, Darkness is suspense at its very best, by the author USA TODAY dubbed “a masterful storyteller, carefully crafting tales that keep readers on the edge of their seats.”

"Hello, Darkness by Sandra Brown (copyright 2003) is a suspenseful and thought-provoking tale about an on-air personality named Paris Gibson. She has a late night radio show on 101.3 at a small station in Austin, Texas. Paris engages her listeners by encouraging them to request their favorite love song classics. However, there are times that Paris is the listener as the callers will sometimes confer to her regarding their relationship difficulties. Paris then does what she can to solicite both sound and encouraging advice to troubled listeners. But then Paris recieves an extremely ominous and threatening phone call from someone named Valentino. It seems that Paris had recieved a call in days past from Valentino's girlfriend. It is quite evident that Valentino did not take kindly to the advice that Paris gave her. As a matter of fact, Valentino is most angry at both Paris and his girlfriend. He blames Paris and plans on seeking vengence and in the phone call to Paris tells her that he plans on killing his girlfriend in three days.Paris then alerts the proper authorities regarding this chilling and frightening phone call. It's a race against time to find Valentino before he kills. At the same time, there are many possible suspects in question. The plot thickens as the clues keeping adding up for each suspect. At the sametime, this book is very thought-provoking. Within the storyline, it reminds the reader of the potential danger of disturbed individuals in society. It also shows the potentially harmful and devestating effect of parents "leaving their teen-agers to their own devices."At the very least, I believe this book will remind readers of real life dangers and perhaps serve as an excellent "wake-up call" for parents that allow their children unmonitored access to the internet.Anna Todd"
