On one of the city’s hottest nights, New York Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas is sent to Central Park—and into a hellish new investigation. The victim is found on the rocks, just above the still, dark water of The Lake in Central Park. Around her neck is a single red ribbon. Her hands are posed, as if in prayer. But it is the eyes—removed with such precision, as if done by the careful hand of a surgeon—that have Dallas most alarmed.
As more bodies turn up, each with the same defining scars, Eve is frantic for answers. Against her instincts, she accepts help from a psychic who offers one vision after another—each with shockingly accurate details of the murders. And when partner and friend Peabody is badly injured after escaping an attack, the stakes are raised. Are the eyes a symbol? A twisted religious ritual? A souvenir? With help from her husband, Roarke, Dallas must uncover the killer’s motivation before another vision becomes another nightmare....

"This is one of my favorites of the "In Death" series. In addition to the progression of the lives of the main characters of the series, Roberts introduces some really intriguing new characters that I hope to see in future books. Also, kudos to Nora for giving us more of ME Morris (he had me at the Grim Reaper tattoo), and I hope that he becomes more of a rounded character in future installments. The best part of this book is that there is a suprise ending that you'll never see coming -- although this is a device often over-used in modern novels, Roberts rarely employs it in her books, but cleverly snuck it in to this one. Thank you, J.D. Robb, for another fantastic read." — Sabrina (5 out of 5 stars)

“Robb (the pen name of Nora Roberts) supplies her usual winning blend of keen investigative work, striking characterizations, and enthusiastic sex, all leavened with a fine sense of humor.”
“Robb excels.”
" Another fairly solid chapter of the series. Slightly incongruous lovey parts, but interesting surprise at the end. "
" Interesting plot twist. World view now includes psychics. "
" One of the ladies that I work with gives me the J.D Robb books after she reads them, so I usually read them at work during my lunch breaks. Most of them I would rate ok, but this was definitely one of her better ones. "
" Intense! This was an excellent book in a series that I love. I couldn't put it down. Definitely going to continue to read about Eve and Roarke, and all the rest of the cast of this wonderful futuristic cop series. "
" This is really amazingly written storyline. In this part Eve at last told Peabody about her own tragic childhood. I really enjoy Eve and Peabody partnership, they are good for each other. This is great, great series, definitely one of a kind. I really hope we will get a TV series one day. It's always a pleasure to re-read or to re-listen this book. Always! "
" The further I dive into the world of Eve Dallas the more hooked I become. JD Robb's dedicated and talented team at NYPSD never let the victims down, no matter how painful the route to justice might be. This novel expands Eve's world as she opens up to Peabody and relaxes in the company of friends, at last beginning to balance work and her supportive group of friends. Brilliant twist in the tail and classic edge of the seat path to the killer's lair. "
" Women are being murdered, raped, and left in NYC parks with their eyes removed. Eve Dallas accepts help from a psychic to identify this serial killer. The first half of the book is strictly a 3 star book but the last half is great. "
" Another very good installment in a very enjoyable series. "
" This story kept me company while I couldn't sleep last night. "
" I wasn't as keen on this one. I liked the fact that Eve opened up a little to Peabody though. "
" Cried and laughed through this installment. The conversation with Mavis, Roake, and Eve was absolutely hysterical about the birth, cried over Peabody, Eve, McNabb, and Roarke. "
" Just when I thought these books couldn't surprise me anymore, the end of this one did! Also, is there any fictional couple you want pissed off at you LESS than Eve & Roarke? Probably not. "
" While I like the series overall, this one contained one of the things I hate most about mysteries: the author withholding important info just to have a big reveal. "
" I love books with fortune tellers. I had was not surprised for it be hinted at for Dallas to maybe have more than her keen instincts. "
" one of my favorites in the series so far "
" Not one of my favorites. I hated the ending. It was one twist too many. Plus I kinda even forgot why the bad guy wanted to chick dead (no extra details for spoilers). Plot just seemed weak... "
" 3.5, I think. Pretty good. I wasn't surprised that yet another member of the team faced almost-death. But I liked the story and the bits about the characters were good. "
" Loved this novel and I'm not a mystery reader or a romance reader, but J. D. Robb is a great reader, so much so that I've even begun to read her novels under Nora Roberts, the Irish Born series. J.D. Robb has created a fantasy man in Roarke. "
" Super good read. "
" On par with the others. I was very tired when I was reading it, though. "
" Perfect vacation read .. indulging two guilty pleasures (JD Robb books & Citron+7 drinks)at once. "
" it was god read, nice who done it. "
" Good one. Poor Peabody :( "
" Book #40 of 2011Do I sound like a broken record yet? I enjoy this series. Not as much of Eve and Roarke working together, but that's OK. "
" A licenced psychic comes to Eve, describing a killer whose death spree has just gone public. Eve hates using Celina Sanchez, but finds independent verification of everything Celina tells her. "
" Loved this book. Audio, what a great narrator!!! "
" psychic tunes in on crafty serial killer, uses MO "
" Completely surprised by the ending, one of my favorites! "
" Thoroughly enjoyed the book, really like this author and this series in particular. "
" To read an "in Death"... is to love the characters. Its best to start from the begining and grow with them. You actually start to think of them as friends. Roberts is by far the best writer of this century. Keep them coming. "
" I was ready to call this one average. There are a few funny lines and some entertaining situations, but then the end happened and I got nervous and just maybe a little weepy and then the very end that I didn't see coming at all. It was all fun! Good one. "
" the end did surprise me which I love when books do that "
" Just like all the JD Robb "...in death" books, this one is a nice, good guys win, entertaining read. I love the fact that you can pick up any of these books at any time without reading them in order and still know exactly what is going on. Makes them perfect Library books! "
" Two-haiku review:Brutal rape-murders.Bodies arranged, eyes cut out.Can Eve see killer?Difficult for Eve.She confides in Peabody,Sees value of friends. "
" Another good Eve Dallas mystery...and I'm still in love with Roarke. "
